As for the fathers, it really doesn't requite a lot of effort not to impregnate a crazy person.
If you know they are crazy I agree it's low effort. But figuring out if someone is crazy can be pretty difficult.
Some forms of crazy are sporadic. Months or even years of normal behavior, followed by bouts of crazy.
Some forms of crazy are only unlocked in prolonged stressful situations, like a single mother taking care of multiple kids.
Other forms of crazy are just plain subtle and hard to notice.
Finally, being in love/lust with someone is an extreme form of blinders. So you are asking someone to be rational and logical while they undergo one of the most common and universal forms of irrationality.
Sorry, minor nitpick, but I wouldn't include all of GMU in any list of conservative universities. I attended GMU and majored in Economics. The Econ department and law school were libertarian anomalies within a rather normal university that was mostly very liberal.
There were constantly left leaning groups trying to oust the GMU econ department. UnKoch My Campus was one of the more well known ones. But there were also attempts by other departments to take control of GMU econ department. One such instance was the faculty trying to create a rule where they would have oversight into other department's hiring practices. It likely would have failed to take control even if it was passed. Walter Williams had control of GMU econ financials and set it up in such a way that it was almost entirely independent from the wider university.
As a result of that minor nitpick I do think that this is an effective move for conservative cultural power. It is often the most obviously non-leftist educational institutions that get attacked the hardest. But there is a limit to attention spans and anger about a thing that doesn't actually effect you. New College has the potential to be a lightning rod for discontent, but other more moderate changes could be slipped in at institutions across the state and not receive as much push-back.
This is low effort and boo-outgroup. Bad combo. Do less of this.
The libertarian party handles this by always having a "none of the above" option in party primaries.
I personally feel that all elections should have a "NOTA" option.
Yes, better
There are multiple attempts at this point. He is a tenured professor in the George Mason Economics department, and the whole department has been under siege for a few decades. For Hanson specifically, I think there was something related to Juneteenth, something related to the Me Too movement, and then he also got attacked by conservatives way back in the early 2000's for proposing betting markets related to the war on terror.
This isn't really what we are looking for in a top level post.
Problems:
-
Without going off and reading the attached links and discussions it is impossible to know what is going on.
-
The content of your post amounts to "here is a thing, lets discuss". At a minimum it is helpful to at least give your view on the topic. Extra good if you include other viewpoints and how you disagree with them.
Or a bastardized version of Warhammer 40k politics (my nomination this time).
Side-strange is definitely the way to go for AAQCs. It's never what I consider my best posts that get nominated, but almost always what I consider my unique posts.
I think the workout stink depends a lot on what you are sweating out. I think most teens are going to have raging hormones when they work out and not have great eating habits, so they all acquire hygiene habits that they keep into adulthood.
I have to think that hormones, diet, and health matter a lot for this.
Healthy humans eating similar food to you and not in puberty will not smell very much.
My toddler kids don't stink after multiple days of no bath.
I drink and often eat a little badly. Since puberty I have stank badly after a day of no showering.
The worst smell I have ever encountered was a high school weight lifting gym.
That is not what doxxing is. Doxxing is exposing personally identifiable information (PII) about a person online. PII is not just someone's name. It also includes phone number, address, and SSN.
I'm not making these definitions up, search for the definition of doxxing and it will be much closer to my definition than yours.
I've always come down on the side of "yes, absolutely that is doxxing". Because we have a bunch of legal and technical systems that are not designed with privacy in mind at all. The DMV sells off driver license information. House ownership is listed in public court records. Websites often require real life names and addresses just in case an unlikely legal incident requires the website owner to need those things. Phone numbers and addresses are also routinely scooped up by advertising companies and resold.
I think Musk made the point that if someone has been posting these reporters' home addresses all over twitter they would rightly be screaming bloody murder at twitter for allowing that doxing to take place.
I do think that the government should get its fucking act together and start allowing a bunch of these public records to be privatized, or at least hidden from easy public view. At least that will end this silly aspect of the doxxing debate. Though it will probably make things worse in terms of actual consequences for people, since the government routinely scoops up a bunch of private information, stores it in an unsecured way, and gets predictably hacked. The idiots had the whole security clearance database hacked and leaked to the Chinese.
Wow, few things:

Paragraphs help most writing by breaking it up into readable chunks. I'm not saying this will help here, but it does seem like the most easily addressable aspect of this ... thing?
-
I'm not sure why you think you are liberal. Do you just like the way the word sounds? I can't figure it out. You are at most a "progressive" but I don't want to insult all progressives by lumping them in with you. I think you fit in best with communists / maoists / stalinists / etc. They share your belief in "everything will be great once I kill all the people on the right that disagree with me".
-
Its always possible that you are a troll, and that is what some people will think here. I've become a big believer in a variant of Poe's law: doesn't matter how crazy it sounds there is someone out there that believes it. I'll treat the views you espouse seriously, even if the actual person writing them doesn't see them as serious.
I think you meant to post this as a response to a lower post.
This is low effort / boo outgroup. Its also not the kind of thing for a top level comment. 3 day ban. Don't do this.
This is the culture war roundup thread, please use a meta thread for feature requests, or join the discord to make feature requests.
I haven't noticed this. My wife has been buying all the books though. Some of them I know are old classics like the Dr Seuss stuff. But maybe it's all old books and I just don't recognize most of them.
It also might be a situation like rock and roll music. Not many good rock and roll songs come out these days, because rock and roll has to compete with the entire back catalog. But country and rap only compete with the last few years of songs.
So for writing news kids books it might be better to target niche market of modern progressives, because no matter what they make it won't be as good as the old stuff.
This is too short for a top level post. Please make longer more effortful top level posts in the future.
From that perspective, China would actually be an interesting place to do some reason and get some more solid data... but that doesn't seem likely to happen.
I feel that China has already done more than enough research on novel corona viruses.
Depends on how it's done. If someone said "I want social carbon credits to punish the right" ya I'd consider that inflammatory and worth being modded.
If they are out there then you can link to them, backup inflammatory claims with evidence.
If a leftist comes on here and doesn't feel the way that you claim they feel, what can they say? "Nuh uh!" ...?
When you just make stuff up then there is no where for the discussion to go. If you link to the evidence there can at least be a discussion about whether the sample is representative, or just some crazies.
Flip the circumstances the other way around. If a leftist said "rightists just want to go around murdering drug users, and they don't do it yet cuz they can't fully get away with it". Its a non-starter of a discussion. But if they instead link to what is happening in the philipines, then you can go multiple directions. Maybe "that isn't what is happening", or "that would never happen in america for x reasons", or maybe you do think its a good idea and now there is actually some meat to the discussion.
There is a pattern where people here make completely accurate predictions about what the left will do and get banned for it.
There are good and bad ways to phrase predictions. The bad ways are just a boo outgroup speculative fiction post, meant to only be read by people that already agree. The good way requires some effort, internet sleuthing to find the leading edge of a political movement, and some thoughtful writing to not phrase it as just a blatant attack.
Then when it inevitably happens the mods who banned them just shrug, go along with it, put the pronouns in their bios, eat the bugs, and cut their daughter's breasts off because the school said so.
Frustratingly, I'm looking at spending tens of thousands of dollars a year to put my daughter into a private religious school for a religion I don't believe in just to avoid coming anywhere close to such a scenario. I didn't find my way here to TheMotte because I buy into mainstream consensus. But TheMotte is not a place for the bitter losers of the culture war to commiserate with one another (don't be mistaken I am one of those bitter losers). We have a higher standard of discussion here and we plan on holding people to it.
If they are on this forum then report the comments. If they aren't on this forum why bring them up? We don't moderate every place on the internet.
In order to do it I stopped moderating at themotte and slatestarcodex, and generally anytime I thought about posting on or reading reddit I spent that time writing instead. Felt good while I was doing it, but yeah I hear you on the mental energy. Its why I haven't been able to do it again.
Sorry for late response, just finding this while reading quality contributions list.
I find it hard to believe grey tribe doesn't exist.
There might be some super blue tribe group, but I never thought of them as grey tribe.
To me the grey tribe is the anti-tribe, or the tribe-less outcasts. The Matt Parker and Trey Stones of the world. The serial contrarians that can't help but feel incorrect when they agree with everyone around them.
I don't want to laude then, I consider myself grey tribe, but not with any pride. Instead I think my brain might be broken, or I'm missing a fundamental part of human psychology. I can't have sports teams I cheer for, I can rarely feel the energy of a crowd, I can't connect with any tribe, and I have no loyalty to any group of people.
When shown divisive personas like Trump I just have to shrug and say "I don't get it". I don't get the love or the hate.
My mother and sister are blue tribe, my father and brother are red tribe. I know what both sides look like. Neither side would claim me, and I wouldn't fit in either way.
Maybe I'm not this "grey tribe" that people discuss, but I strongly believe that society is not fully divided into a binary red and blue tribe.
