When has this slow and gradual reform worked in history, especially for something hard like shrinking government or anti-corruption efforts.
I thought this too, and it's only half true. A bigger cage doesn't fully work. But you can invest in training them to be safe, that's how we learnt. Before they are 3 you can train them like a dog, with positive reinforcement, and predictable and infrequent boundaries. This leads to more fun for everyone, since you are trying to get towards a situation that work for everyone. I try to learn to ignore whining until they learn to communicate. Watch TV. Multitask effectively. Do what parents to 8 do, but as a parent of 2.
Anyway I'm still learning but you can keep your personality and some of your hobbies.
This counts news about food recalls, not food recalls that are not reported in the news. Actual recalls are not going up.
But you've got to do it. We need the next generation of shmucks. Our ancectors did it for us, and they had it way harder. So why can't we cope?
Months after being freed from 14 years in confinement, Assange is back in the spotlight, criticising the government.
This man is simply irrepressible! I have high hopes that Australians will be able to vote him into Senate soon.
Here is his hour long address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE): https://youtube.com/watch?v=Mq85IZMeigc&t=2120s
Some juicy extracts from the transcript (I used ChatGPTBox to summarise but it was reluctant to talk about politics)
"I want to be totally clear. I am not free today because the system worked. I am free today because after years of incarceration I pleaded guilty to journalism. I pleaded guilty to seeking information from a source, and I pleaded guilty to informing the public what that information was."
On CIA activities: "We exposed the CIA's infiltration of French political parties, the European Central Bank, European economics ministries, its production of malware and viruses, its hacking of iPhones."
Regarding alleged CIA plans against him: "CIA director Pompeo launched a secret war against WikiLeaks, including plans to kidnap and to assassinate me within the United Kingdom."
On surveillance: "The CIA had agents permanently assigned to track my wife and newborn child."
About former CIA officer Joshua Schulte: "Former CIA officer Joshua Schulte was convicted for providing information to WikiLeaks and is now held in isolation. A radio and a white noise machine plays 24 hours a day to disorient him."
On potential CIA actions in Europe: "Europe is vulnerable to having its sovereignty violated by CIA operations on European soil, violating human rights and European law."
Regarding Michael Pompeo's memoirs: "Europe in Michael Pompeo's memoirs, which were published this year, brags about how the CIA reopened the investigation against me in Sweden."
On the broader implications of his case: "The criminalization of journalists in the United States for asking for, receiving, or publishing classified information prevents Russia or indeed any other state from doing the same thing."
"In 2017 the landscape changed dramatically. President Trump had been elected. He appointed two wolves in MAGA hats: Mike Pompeo, a Kansas congressman and former arms industry executive as CIA director, and William Barr, a former CIA officer as [Attorney General]."
Does anyone have the whole story on Mike Pompeo? This is what I've gathered so far:
-
He's threatening me. He's in my car. I'll never with my dog sitting next to him, I'll never forget this. And I said, are you really saying that to reveal that the US government had a role in the murder of a democratically elected president, to say that out loud, that's the crime? Mike Pompeo was plotting to murder Julian Assange, who's never even been charged with a crime in the United States as CIA director. That's illegal. You're not allowed. Federal employees are not allowed to just kill people they don't like. Okay.

on the all in pod Trump heavily implies that Mike Pompeo told him not to fulfil his campaign promise of releasing the JFK files, because "we are not ready"
Chamath: I'm sorry I have to ask I have to ask one question sir, when you got elected in 20 in the 2016 election you said the first thing or one of the things you wanted to do was release the JFK file, and then you said later "I saw it and I just I wasn't really ready to do it" and then I saw a clip where you changed your mind and you said "I think we're ready to see this file" and I'm just curious what's in it
Trump: I actually did do it, uh, I released a lot, as you know, but when it came to the whole thing, I was hit by some people that worked for me, that are great people, that you would respect, and they asked me not to do it, and I'm saying "why, tell me why" and they said "sir I think it needs a little more time" and I released a lot but I said if they feel so strongly, I respect the people, and would would have done that again, but this time I'm just going to do it
Jason: RFK says the CIA killed his his um uncle do you believe that
Trump: well this wasn't CIA that asked me but I think CIA was probably behind it [editor: clarification, by "behind it" they mean the guy who told Trump "we are not ready" - probobly Pompeo , this is not Trump admitting the CIA killed JFK] but they didn't, they would have preferred that I not release the rest of it, so we we did give quite a bit, uh, it's going to be done early on a lot of people people want to see that and whatever it may say I won't say, I sort I have an idea, but uh whatever it is it'll be very interesting for people to see and we're going to have to learn from it
Jason: promise US you'll come back again Mr
Trump: you know there are other things we're going to release too, we're going to release
Jason: really like what what else do you got
Trump: we'll talk to you about it off camera [editor: it's a rolodex of dick picks of world leaders from epsteins island ]
Jason: aliens?
Trump: by the way I generally speaking, and there are reasons not to release certain things obviously, but I generly you know it's transparency and I think it's important that we release that, and there are other things too ,there are other things that you know about, but people more than anything else they want the JFK files we're going to release that immediately

it is now a matter of public record that under pompeo's explicit Direction the CIA Drew up plans to kidnap and to assassinate me within the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and authorized going after my European colleagues subjecting us to theft hacking attacks and the planting of false information my wife and my infant son were also targeted a CIA asset was permanently assigned to track my wife and instructions were given to obtain DNA from my six month-old son's nappy

Pompeo not shutting door on joining a second Trump administration
So what's up with this guy? Is there other facts I've missed. Is he just Trump's handler? Why is he spilling secrets in this autobiography?
A side note, Pompeo is not the only politician who seems to be influenced by the CIA. Mike Johnson, The Speaker of the House went from one of the biggest opponent of the CIA one year ago to the [biggest proponent because "they took him to a room and showed him something"](source: https://rumble.com/v4siucc-system-update-263.html#)
What kind of world model fits all these facts? It seems like a barely incompetent CIA, is cheaply buying and influencing politicians on both sides, including the outsider candidate: Trump.
P.S. a previous popular Motte Thread What did you learn from leaked documents?
I'm a physicist who's always loved it. I'm surprised. But I'll note that this is not an USA phenomenon. Worldwide attitudes have changed in multiple countries first, UWA is just jumping on the bandwagon.
Personally I think the impetus was Europe getting slapped in the face with the reality of energy shortages. The German Green disastrous shutdown of the German nuclear plant. Following by a European debate (https://www.ft.com/video/864a8145-0862-48a8-a7a9-d3e338d3177e) and an Australian debate (https://spectrum.ieee.org/nuclear-power-in-australia).
it's not clear why this is happening
It seems clear to me. We need people to work. Naturally, they don't want to work. We arrange the economy so they are in position where they have to work. This is called economic growth and full employment.
It couched in language of, "pursue full employment", "worker shortage", "keep the median wage down", "increase the labour force".
They probably signed a grant contract that has a right to audit, this is probably backed by a court order to allow access to perform the audit. Pretty standard, although usually it doesn't come to police.
It's interesting to see that Assange slams the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations for their appointment of CIA directors that repressed free speech. He has a lot to say about Trump
However, in February 2017, the landscape changed dramatically. President Trump had been elected, and he appointed two wolves in MAGA hats, Mike Pompeo, a Kansas congressman and former arms industry executive, as CIA director, and William Bar, a former CIA officer, as US Attorney General. By March 2017, WikiLeaks had exposed the CIA's infiltration of French political parties, spying on French and German leaders, spying on the European Central Bank, European economics Ministries, and its standing orders to spy on French industry as a whole. We also revealed the CIA's vast production of malware and viruses, its subversion of supply chains, its subversion of antivirus software, Cars, Smart TVs, and iPhones.
CIA Director Pompeo launched a campaign of retribution. It is now a matter of public record that, under Pompeo's explicit direction, the CIA drew up plans to kidnap and to assassinate me within the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and authorized going after my European colleagues, subjecting us to theft, hacking attacks, and the planning of false information. My wife and my infant son were also targeted. A CIA asset was permanently assigned to track my wife, and instructions were given to obtain DNA from a six-month-old son's nappy. This is the testimony of more than 30 current and former US intelligence officials speaking to the US press, which has been corroborated by records seized in a prosecution brought against some of the CIA agents involved. The CIA's targeting of myself, my family, and my associates through
And this is him limiting himself to only the public records: e.g court records and Pomeo's bragging in his book. You can only imagine what else is going on. We obviously can't trust any politician, but we can look at their past actions, and Trumps past actions are terrible. He doesn't even express any regrets for breaking campaign promises and siding with the CIA over the promised JFK files. He only says, "next time I will, you can be sure". Right....
True his autobiography is likely lots of lies/spin. But it also sounds like a politician the CIA can hardly rein in, who is desperate for attention. Some of it is backed up by court documents, although this is spotty, and some of it second hand.
It's in no ones interest to move to a worse revenue model in a field where almost noone pays anyway
They get paid to drag it on, meh
the GDP to debt ratio, is a function of debt. Not just GDP. People seem to forget. And government can in theory control our debt, the GDP is in large part out of government control.
Yeah it's obvious this is one of Trumps "red lines", and he struggles with the truth vs his boss
All I know is she could destroy me in combat or debate. That is enough.
That seems like a silly thing to do. Politicians usually say what polls well, not what they will do.
I'll start with a low effort set of "stylised facts". Feel free to argue
- Spies will cooperate with a support their own countries' industry (E.g. Diplomats cooperating with Shell vs NSA backdooring Petrobas routers)
- The CIA will hack the computers of their own Senate oversight committee
- There have been warrentless backdoors in some (probably all) social media companies and ISP's for years
- Spies will cooperate with social media companies (and probably newspapers) to promote or bury stories (see twitter files)
- Spies might engage in drug smuggling to get a bigger black budget
- Countries and corporations have "50 cent armies" to post comments following one agenda or another
- Politician will take money from some donors but not others
I assume that where there is one company or politician or agency or country doing something, they are probably all doing it.
He has announced the Pomeo and Haley won't be joining this time. https://x.com/wikileaks/status/1855399528909701537
I'm say this is the Deep state category, good to have it confirmed that they will not be joining.
With all the category listed, remove the ones he no longer needs and keep the ones he still needs for executing or passing bills.
Of course he will need his guy to get elected again in 4 years to make sure he doesn't get put in jail or his business or legacy destroyed.
he did this in 2017, remember? -
Indeed but it was in 2020, so he delayed by N days
https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2020-09-28/pdf/2020-21534.pdf
The Epstein stuff (having an organised operation creating and collecting blackmail, and kept under wraps) seems to support this.

All the paper's show they don't work. Because there is just no way to be sure, and 100% sure will especially so. https://x.com/emollick/status/1681481069210501120 https://t.co/2L90UqRnpx
All the commercial services claim theirs don't.
This is pretty confusing for a lot of people, especially teachers.
