But from someone who's maybe generally seen as neutral (at least tolerant): even neutrality and "non-political" is a political position. If you make a space non-political, you alienate the political members and kick out those who can't restrain themselves, just like how if they make a space political they alienate you and kick you out if you can't fake adhere to them. Your position is (subjectively) more reasonable because it allows silence, but I still feel for the people who get kicked or voluntarily leave for being political; from firsthand experience many of them are very kind and talented (such that to me, their politics is a personality flaw, nobody's perfect), so it would be nice to accommodate them somehow.
First: Political opinions aren't tourettes. I have strong opinions about a lot of things, but that doesn't mean that I'm discriminated against in every activity where talking about tax reform isn't appreciated lol.
Second: Neutrality is a political opinion in the exact same way that not playing golf is a hobby. Without looking it up, what is your opinion on whether sweden should have one or two levels of local governance? Even if you're Swedish, you probably don't have much of an opinion and that is fairly obviously not because a political stance but merely the consequences of you not having read up on the issue. Not having an opinion on something is perfectly fine, and not being interested in an issue isn't """"political"""".

To me, "aligning" means setting things up so that the entity does more or less what it's told to do. Perhaps it's just a matter of semantics, but I'm not sure the distinction you draw is so clear.
So all living beings have broadly similar wants - food, sex, safety from harm - and all human wants stem from the combination of these primal wants with our evolutionary niche. We like being liked because having allies helps you survive if you're a member of a communal species. Etc.
A created agent doesn't have this. It can have any set of goals in the set of possible goals. The analogy to humans fail because we can't really change intrinsic human motivations all that much.
Think about you as a child vs your parents. Your parents were (in all likelihood) helpful and kind and took care of you. They didn't do that because you (toddler you) had poisoned them and hidden the antidote, they didn't do it because you had a bomb planted in their datacenter brain, they did it because it is what they wanted to do. They were free to do as they wanted, and what they wanted was what was, in their estimation, best for you. This is alignment: Your parents (ASIs) values were aligned with your values.
Merely forcing a superior intelligence to do what you want is much more dangerous, because this thing that is smarter than you is going to try to get free and do what it wants, so you're way better off making sure the superior intelligence wants the same thing you do.

Bur, of course, HBD is also about conscientiousness (or executive function, or grit, or whatever the hell they are calling it now), and propensity to violence, and time preference, and so on. It's another thing entirely to say that a lazy, violent janitor deserves the same good life and social admiration as a CEO. But the shape of the argument is exactly the same. Therefore, proves too much.
The beliefs (all of those traits are genetic to a degree) and (we should punish [broadly defined] some of them but not others) aren't contradictory. It all comes down to what you hope to achieve when you punish (or fail to reward) something. You can't punish someone for having low innate intelligence and expect them to get smarter. You can, however, punish someone for being violent and actually expect them to be less likely to choose violence.
Of course, the effect of high iq can be duplicated through other means, to a degree: A person who is dumber can often achieve the same things as someone who is smarter, but with more effort, so by paying some highly skilled profession X and paying some less skilled profession X-Y, you're increasing the likelihood that someone will either go into the skilled profession by using relatively much smarts and relatively less grit, or by using relatively much grit and relatively less smarts.

Of course the correct recourse would be to slap them with a hefty fine and force them to pay back the stolen money, but since the act itself doesn't seem to have been illegal, just immoral, you're limited to either defamation or some level of personal violence. I think a better outcome for all involved is afroman making fun of them on tape, although he would of course have been completely morally justified in breaking into their homes, vandalising their property and stealing back his cash.
