Small-Scale Question Sunday for April 27, 2025

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

Yes but it needs taste. Go is nicer than C, python is nicer than perl and bash and php. Command line apps are blazingly fast.

Slack is built upon a tower of abstractions and it does have more functionality than IRC. It could have been better but the tower of abstractions means it was created faster.

Well, this was topic of my posting: languages are better, software only marginally better. Why need to create software faster if computers are mostly used for same things like 20-10 years ago?

As an example, image sharing and videoconferencing are much faster & better. Slack is actually much better than IRC; it casually embeds a version of Skype just because. It allows for sharing images. Good threads.
