A more serious question: have you noticed any negative behavior changes in people you know who have started taking GLP1 drugs?

2 people I've known for 20 years have gone on such drugs, and both have started displaying far more materialistic behavior than ever before. It might just be midlife freakouts, but then I realized that besides their ages, they also had GLP1 in common.

Do you have any reason to believe it’s not stereotypical midlife crises?

FWIW my dad doesn’t appear to have changed behavior at all. He’s gotten more interested in whiskey, I guess.

No reason at all. I noticed the behavior changes and noticed 2 things in common. Given people talk about the positive behavior changes from GLP1 drugs, I thought it was worth tossing out a question on possible negative effects.

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
