What's your preferred type of Millennial beer (non-alcoholic barely-flavored carbonated water)? I'm partial to the lacroix limoncello and sunshine flavors, but it's not like any type/brand is much more than tv static + a hint of flavor.

Hey, I'll eat a lot of shit for my peers, but millenials are the triple IPA artisinal 15% beer and ironic PBR generation. Blame the zoomers for your flavorless alcoholic seltzers.

Please, Millennials brought the resurgence of German Beers, Meads, Trappist, Darks, and Sours back into style. Just because hop ODing is easier does not define our grain-juice palette.

German beers and various dark types were a mainstay of first-wave craft brewers in the late 80s -- they were occasionally too malty (especially the dark ones) but some persist to this day!

IDK where you are going that meads are in style, and in any case the ones I've had are very much not beer -- that leaves Trappist and Sour which (assuming you mean sparkling-monk-style due to EU regulations) are pretty far from mainstream IME?

Whereas whenever I go to a restaurant since the dawn of the millenial, I typically have twenty disgusting IPAs with colourful labels to choose from, and can maybe find one each of decent lager/ale/stout. Sometimes the brewers are even sneaking extra hops into those though, so ordering something you've never heard of is not safe.

I assume somebody is buying this stuff, and my money is on the dudes (still) wearing the ironic facial hair.

Idk places around me, there are 3-4 meaderies in my local area. I consider them beer adjacent because it's really only craft beer drinkers that tend to get them. Wine drinkers just get wine. Yeah Trappists as in Doubels, Tripels, and Quads, as the beer type. From the sparkling-ale region of my local breweries. And Sours, Farmhouse Ales, Goses, etc have absolutely flooded my local beer stores that it's almost gotten to the point that if I see a barrel-aged bottle of expensive beer, its a 50/50 flip between an Imp Stout and a Sour.

Depends on how hip honestly. We have local beer stores and local breweries that have wide varieties. When I was in Chicago I frequented Beermiscous and Beer Temple a lot. Restaurants around here often have locals which are fairly wide in variety, my current favorite is a nice ESB that is spreading, but yes boomer establishments where the average age of the clientele are 50+ stock mostly disgusting domestic/Macrobrew IPAs

Don't get me started on the Boomers...

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
