Wellness Wednesday for October 7, 2026

The Wednesday Wellness threads are meant to encourage users to ask for and provide advice and motivation to improve their lives. It isn't intended as a 'containment thread' and any content which could go here could instead be posted in its own thread. You could post:

  • Requests for advice and / or encouragement. On basically any topic and for any scale of problem.

  • Updates to let us know how you are doing. This provides valuable feedback on past advice / encouragement and will hopefully make people feel a little more motivated to follow through. If you want to be reminded to post your update, see the post titled 'update reminders', below.

  • Advice. This can be in response to a request for advice or just something that you think could be generally useful for many people here.

  • Encouragement. Probably best directed at specific users, but if you feel like just encouraging people in general I don't think anyone is going to object. I don't think I really need to say this, but just to be clear; encouragement should have a generally positive tone and not shame people (if people feel that shame might be an effective tool for motivating people, please discuss this so we can form a group consensus on how to use it rather than just trying it).

I went off semaglutide for 2 weeks, because half the fun of vacation is eating large quantities of nice food. I'm back on it again, and thankfully only gained a kilo.

It was a good vacation. I just find it remarkable how quickly the benefits fade now what I'm thrown back in the fire. I remember when I didn't have to take some kind of analgesic to get through a working day. It feels like a lifetime ago.

Analgesic like you have headaches or other sorts of pain?

I was diagnosed with migraines, but thankfully they've more or less resolved over the last few months.

No, I've been having back pain for about 6 months now, coinciding with starting my current, highly demanding placement. There's hours of standing around, pushing trolleys about, running around the hospital. Some of it is somatoform and a consequence of stress. There was a proper back injury in between too, but that's healed, the background pain still remains and worsens through a working day.

I saw physio about it. They recommended exercise. I should absolutely be doing that, I just can't make myself do it consistently while under this much pressure.

I've had intermittent lower back pain for the last seven years. I found this video a few months ago and it was more helpful than any other suggestion I've tried. The exercises only take five-ten minutes to complete, but you do need to be consistent about it.

Have you tried reading Joe Sarno's "Healing Back Pain"?

I haven't, thanks for the recommendation. It's very peculiar how it waxes and wanes: some days I'm hobbling around like an old man, but today I don't feel so much as a twinge of stiffness.
