Funnily enough, drinking plain black coffee every day doesn't mean that you know anything about coffee. I ordered a latte in a cafe a few months ago and was surprised to find it wasn't sweet at all, just creamy and bitter, but I really liked the latte art. It was a leaf.

So, a couple coffee questions:

  1. When you're in a cafe, what is your go-to order? It would be a wasted trip if I just ordered plain black coffee.
  2. I have tried espresso a couple times and find I don't really like it that much. Do men commonly get sugar, vanilla, or caramel in their lattes, cappuccinos, and other drinks? Is that the equivalent of going to a bar and ordering "girl drinks"?
  1. Flat white (I don't like the foam on cappuccinos, and often in Europe these have twice the espresso too). Some handbrew pourover if I want the caffeine but not the nutrition. Straight espressos only in Italy (I find that you get good-tasting ones maybe 90% of the time there, whereas elsewhere it's closer to 50%).

  2. I generally avoid it if I can help it for the same reason of not wanting my coffee to be heavy/nutritious. I make an exception if I must go to a place where I know the coffee will be disgusting (Starb*cks and most other chains). In the UK, my go-to was the gingerbread flavouring at Costa.
