Midterms Megathread

Cause otherwise midterms discussion will be scattered around a bunch of separate Culture War thread posts. And it's nice to have more off-the-cuff rapid reactions in a dedicated megathread.

The first thing I've noticed so far: if the exit polls are correct, Americans are very pessimistic about AI.

The only macro conclusions I would draw from this election are that polls are pretty accurate during midterms, and not very accurate during presidential years. I would attribute this to America - as a relatively non-political society - only having its nerds go to the polls in midterms whereas everyone gets worked up for the President and votes for the same party down the ballot.

I think Presidential races tend to be much closer (aside from Obama in 2008, the margin of victory has been 5% or less in every race this century), which inevitably leads to noisier poll results. Midterms don't seem to be as close, for whatever reason.
