Midterms Megathread

Cause otherwise midterms discussion will be scattered around a bunch of separate Culture War thread posts. And it's nice to have more off-the-cuff rapid reactions in a dedicated megathread.

The first thing I've noticed so far: if the exit polls are correct, Americans are very pessimistic about AI.

Is this result actually good for the republicans in the next elections? When the democrats had no power, they could not credibly be held to account for the problems under the current administration. Now that they won the midterms, Trump could spend the remainder of his term blaming them for any policy of his that doesn't work.

Rising inflation? Democrats blocked any functional legislation. This was the best we could do.

Iran war? Jew controlled Dems insist on fighting! There is nothing we can do. Or if they want to pull out, blame them for not being able to negotiate a good peace deal.

Falling stock prices? They can't be trusted with any power over the economy.

So on and so forth. Does this actually give the Republicans all the ammo they need to win in two years?

No, because any legislation has to go through the president. If it doesn't work his party shares the blame equally. If he vetoes it he takes the blame alone. Plus, the "party in power" is who holds the presidency, regardless of who controls congress. Democrats didn't get any credit for not controlling congress during Biden's last two years.
