This is a megathread for any posts on the conflict between (so far, and so far as I know) Hamas and the Israeli government, as well as related geopolitics. Culture War thread rules apply.
Hamas used Huawei smartphones with no Western backdoor.
That completes switching the blame to the new "axis of evil".

The source is a twitter account named @RealPepeEscobar, so do your due diligence, but if this is true it's absolutely hilarious: Western intelligence agencies spend their time and money breaking into their own side's hardware rather than that of the enemy...
One of the replies to the tweet says he'll go and buy a Huawei now, and to be honest who can blame him, just like how having western rather than Chinese backdoors in your hardware protects you if you're living in China, having Chinese rather than western backdoors protects you if you're living in the west.
Even if you live in the west, China may use informations about you. Do you work for the army? Do you work for a competitor of a chinese company? Do you hold anti chinese views? Are you an obstacle on the way of a chinese agent?
I understand that you don't trust your government, but trusting a foreign government more is something weird...
I don't think so. I agree that the local government has mire physical power, but its incentives are quite different. The US government has to let americans believe that it acts in their interests. China does not care as much

Why are you called The Motte?
A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently,
it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey",
originally identified by
philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial
but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens
this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for
the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired
propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."
On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.

Oh, I don't trust the foreign governments at all. It's more that the foreign government has less power to hurt me than the local government.
