I think the Douglas paper doesn't even go far enough in criticising pure procreative beneficence; there's a real possibility of it leading to societal implosion via "mean chickens" if done on a large scale ( - presumably by advantaging social-climbing behaviour and what Zvi calls "maze nature". Obviously, "this will literally cause societal collapse" is a pretty good reason to not do something.
