Happy Trudeau noises

There's a reason the South Koreans have the best sunscreen tech in the world and to be very clear that reason is racism / colorism

Increasing the total size of the economy doesn't benefit natives

I agree with a lot of this, but the above sentence is incorrect.

There are increasing returns to scale in an economy. It's a large (hah) reason why the US and China are as successful as they are. It's a reason why the EU exists, etc.

can actually vote them down?

At a certain point if the bottom 30-50% of young(er) people get pissed off and poor enough, the protests up to and including genuine physical violence to seize the reins of power could be in play.

Old people can outvote the young handily, and that won't change for ~100 years given current demographics. But their power is only on paper, a revolution, where physical power rules, is much less favorable.

I'm not advocating for a butlerian jihad against Simon & Linda, but at the extremes it is a possibility

I agree with you on all of this. I just think it applies to basketball too via similar mechanisms of action.

In a space opera I'm really hoping we're leveraging our IQ and coordination abilities, not rock throwing at their laseguns

further cements my personal opinion that people as a whole will gleefully be discriminatory as long as they have the power of the state behind thier actions to excuse it without any self awareness.

This isn't your "personal opinion" it's literally human nature and you are 100% correct as it's the truth of the universe

amazing how even obnoxious dogs recognize what it means when a human bends down to grab a rock

Love this

bedroom key

Why does your custom home have a bedroom lock?

Keyfob for my mother's car

Does she not need it? Why carry it?

If we were a video game class, it would be our special racial skill.

Not IQ?!!?!? What?!?!?? Or communication?!?!?!? Throwing things? Really?

I don't want to downplay how OP we are at throwing things but I'm not typing this comment on a thrown projectile lol

spend thousands of hours on a movement skill that has no application to anything else whatsoever.

Unlike hockey, where the skill of using a shaped stick to throw things will pay dividends over their lifetime lol

I used to play soccer as a kid, and I now kick stuff around my apartment with precision to clean up, so that was good.

I have no answers for you

It's a tricky thing paying people to do stuff. I remember reading studies decades ago about how it lowered motivation for many tasks to add a paid component.

You could give a fixed allowance predicated on some amount of chore completion so she acquires money but it isn't 1:1 related to the task

My concern is less chores, and more of any unintended blowback by accidentally making her dislike crafts because her parents monetized it and it killed the vibe (I can't remember the mechanism of action in the studies lol)

I don't think the logistics are in my favor, but I wish I could come to your housewarming

That comment is actually art. Probably one of the funniest things I've read in a while and not a single word was said in jest

"And there's no point in setting up an ephemeral one-on-one conversation when it's much more useful and lasting to just upvote his comments and provide links to relevant laws whenever he expresses hate for New Jersey on this website." AI could never, ever, be this fantastic

I think the funniest part about this is you're being downvoted

Brother, same

He's probably my favorite poster here

I forgot about this page lmao

as a general principle the Mayor of NYC should refrain from this kind of talk.

What's funny is this was a big win of Mamdami's campaign in the "what are your top priorities as mayor and why is #1 visiting Israel?" debate. That's basically what he said and he looked fantastic. Basically stole Trump's excellent "no new wars" rally vibes

The virgin new world democracy obsessed with gibs with no motivating national spirit versus the Chad old world nation seeped in meaning and purpose, unshackled by earthly desires.

It’s hard work but seems more fun than a lot of jobs.

Both are true

Big issue would be the pace of cooking and probably gets repetitive like any job.

Yes, hours are fucked too. Also co-workers are fun but at the cost that many of them are dipshits or addicts (or both).

But cooking is essentially a leisure job for the wealthy.

This is wildly incorrect

High risk high reward

High reward: they all filter away to Germany and Finland in search of a better welfare state

High risk: they don't, and now you have a even more poor, even more violent population of Somali's et al

Inb4 "now you have?"

It can always get worse!

Tax credit for having kids or tax penalty for not having kids are functionally identical policies economically

One just makes people mad and one doesn't

extreme damage to our education system

So your stance is that the US education system was doing fantastically in 2021? No pre-existing problems or awful trends?

students use LLMs to complete the assignments that were created by LLMs and will be graded by the same LLMs

This is so depressing. I agree with you here. I hate that this is happening.

I don't blame LLMs though. I use LLMs to teach myself new things all the time.

I blame the absolutely shit school system, which has been shit and wildly unable to adapt to anything my entire life.

environmentally catastrophic data centers

How are they bad? Can you actually substantiate this? What makes them worse than giant suburban tracts of sprawl?

to build data centers that almost every constituent opposes

NIMBYs fighting against progress is good when it's against something I don't like

to companies firing large parts of their workforce because of 'AI efficiencies' that don't actually exist

This sentence literally contradicts itself. Either AI works and companies are getting more efficient (this is a good thing, your food is harvested by tractors not men with a scythe). Or AI doesn't work and then it's not the reason layoffs are happening.

Layoffs happened before 2022...

the degradation of our public education system by replacing teachers with AI tools that don't work

Ah yes, as we all know, the American school system was in FANTASTIC shape pre-2022, and once chatGPT was released it all came tumbling down...

shall I go on?

Please do!

AI doesn't produce any value for the median person and instead makes much of their life notably worse

Maybe I'm not a "median person" but AI has definitely improved my life in many ways and has made it worse in roughly 0 ways.

Basically every social problem AI is claimed to cause was a massive issue pre-2022.

"Oh no the internet is full of retards, slop and advertising!!" is it 2005, 2015, or 2025?
