Usually, a kid who doesn't care about schoolwork, steals, uses drugs/alcohol, and doesn't obey their parents (especially if they curse their parents out).
Half a century ago, "listening to rock&roll" would have been part of the picture too, especially those bands who used Satanic imagery.

Reddit finally banned me for running afoul of their permanent Anti-Rightist campaign, so I bit the bullet and registered on KiwiFarms. But whenever I try to post, the captcha tells me I have a "residential VPN" on my phone. AFAIK I have no such thing; I always connect on T-Mobile 5G (Android.) Is it just not possible to post there from a phone? Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

And they constantly bring up slavery as if it was just abolished last week, in all manner of crazy contexts. I've seen Los Angeles public transit buses called "slave ships", and the fucking Library of Congress referred to as "the plantation". They never get tired of their schtick.

You've never been to a theater with a predominantly black clientele, then. In 1990, I made the mistake of watching Necessary Roughness at the Union Station theater in DC. During the climactic scene, the whole audience SCREAMED so loud, my ears genuinely hurt and I was afraid my hearing might be damaged forever.

I don't know. It just seems too good to be true. I got burned badly by futurist predictions in the eighties: the "room-temperature superconductors" announced in 1987, and the "cold fusion" hype in the spring of '89. I would like to believe, but at my advanced age, I find I can no longer look forward to anything (or get excited about anything) unless I'm drunk. Many years of experience puts me on team "Nothing Ever Happens". Edit: I read Drexler's Engines of Creation ovet Memorial Day weekend in 1988 (I had just finished my junior year in college) and it got me powerfully excited and optimistic. But then nothing happened ... and nothing continued to happen ... and decades passed, and now I'm morally sure nanotechnology will not improve anyone's life until I'm long dead and in my grave. If then.

The southwest "bungalow belt" was safe - but it fell, starting around 1980. Its last hurrah was "Epton: Before It's Too Late" in the 1983 mayoral campaign which Harold Washington won.
Yeah, I had the impression that Charlotte, like almost all Southern cities, had exactly one walkable White neighborhood which you won't be living in unless you can afford million-dollar houses or $3000 rents. (Edit: and like all such neighborhoods nowadays, if your politics are anything other than "left-liberal shading towards DSA", you won't feel welcome there and you won't be making any friends. Expect pride flags and "In This House We Believe..." signs everywhere.) And, like most Southern cities, the public transportation in the postwar neighborhoods consisted of maybe one bus per hour, and there are no "third places" there unless you count Wal-Mart and McDonalds.

In the early nineties, I used to listen to Howard Stern (back then he was only on 92.3 K-Rock, WYSP, WJFK!) I eventually got tired of the frequent 10-minute ad breaks and lost track of the show, but I read an article a few years ago that implied, without actually saying it, that he had dropped his funny material and gone woke in his old age. Pity. I used to love hearing him go off on other DJs.

Iran War: Really getting sick and tired of the endless "Trump threatens attacks, backs down promising that a 'deal' is just a couple days away, Iran resubmits the same proposals which basically amount to the US' total surrender with no concessions by Iran, Trump makes more baseless threats" cycle. I've lost track of how many times this has happened. Just end it, one way or another.
I've found myself wishing I was a mutant with immense psychic powers, so the next time Trump swears he's going to do something or other, I'd be able to force him to keep his promises!!
In case you are not a native English speaker, the words are synonymous in this case.
