Woke is driven by exactly 2 things:

  1. Federal Antidiscrimination law making it a crime, subject to forfeit of hundreds of millions, for any corporation, educational institute, government department, digital platform, or small business to be anti-woke.

  2. Payment processors and financial institutions being legally allowed and encouraged to withdraw services to the politically disfavored despite not being private free-market companies but effective monopolies and oligopolies created by the regulatory state.

.

We know what a true free market produces: It produces the 19th century and the full spectrum of partisan outlets, and robber barons free to not only speak but enact their social vision within their businesses.

Woke is entirely a fucntion of the regulatory state claiming the power to control individual interactions, ideological statements, and financial transactions by private enterpirses.

Unless you are actually willing to say "NO the state should not get to control companies speech even if it is racist" or "No banking monopolies should not be able to refuse any customer until they have been convicted of a crime"... then you fully support the organs of woke power, you just think it should confine itself to eating people ever so far to the right of you.

Not knowing the answer is his immediate punishment... the long term punishment he won't even know. not having read the book.

Alex jones is oone of the greatest counter-cultural figures currently living.

It doesn't take very much listening to him before you realize he's a spoken word poet, revivalist preacher, or Landian speculative critic... Its utterly absurd to treat him as someone making factual statements that can be wrong, as opposed to some social/spiritual experimenter.

Hell I wrote 5000 words on how much his rhetoric resembles an ancient rhapsode or politico-religious poet like Dante or Milton, than it does any other commentator alive today...

I still get pings of people saying this is the best thing I've ever written/ or even best motte post which is remarkable when you consider its about someone utterly rejecting empericalism and all the norms that have consolidated into modern rationalism.

Seriously just listen to the guy

Libertarians are consistently shockingly well organized for their numbers and the newness of the ideology (which in its modern form has only existed for 50ish years.

the issue is Libertarians are randomly distributed (since the vast majority of them come to the ideology through the internet)... and as of now there is barely 5-10ish million of them if we include everyone who's liberty curious and maybe voted LP, or attended an evert , numbers that were vastly lower before 2008.

By contrast social justice has 15-40 million, comes out of several active traditions that did historically wield wide influence amongst large demographics... feminism, gay acceptance... and came with a built in institutional subsidy in the form of anti-decrimination mandates that the ideology has evolved to exploit

this still blows my mind.

After a decade + of culture war and 50ish years a queer theory, you'd assume they'd have a canned definition... like not a good one that most people would accept... just a definition, anything.

You ask a libertarian phd to define the state, or a marxist to define the market, or a nazi to define "Ze Jew" or "Ze Race"... sure most would agree... but they'd have a clear thought out answer. Even if they didn't they'd be happy to riff on it and explore their ideology and get into the weeds of the debate...

The fact these professors of queer studies not only don't have an answer, but KNOW they don't have an answer, and know they'll lose their jobs if they get drawn into the academic exercise of trying to sound out an answer... on a basic concept within their own ideology....

THat is very unique in the history of western universities and political thought.

That's vastly more respectable in a Socrates and hemlock sort of way. My respect for euros has increased.

Mind you of all the horrible venues to go for one last drink...

Who would not want to go to that night club? The rate of clubbers hooking up would be insane after the first week... think of how horror movies and the adrenaline supper charges dates

Indeed...It is impossible to get from an is to an ought statement (per Hume). Thus both moral realism / moral relativism / even most forms of moral nihilism are vastly too claims intensive to be correct. Morality as it relates to reality is something we cannot even access at its most basic level...

So everyone is inevitably caving to aesthetics or social pressure when choosing their morality... so what should one do? I'd argue the noblest thing one can do from this position is to at least consciously choose to pick something that's truly beautiful.

Deontology is concerned with optimizing the good.

Utilitarianism is concerned with optimizing the pleasurable.

Virtue ethics is concerned with optimizing the beautiful.

.

Deontologists might look at me as evil, Utilitarians might look at me as cruel... but the disgust I feel when looking on their works and what they'd make of themselves, it is a righteous fury on par with any of their calls for crusade or the overturn of "oppressors"

I'm not justifying any state action. Indeed I haven't even endorsed withdrawing assisted suicide as an option.

Only stated that we should have a revulsion at it, and regardless of one's opinion on suicide, feel disgust at those who flee into the bosom of the state even as they reject life itself.

It is a death optimized for ugliness, helplessness, and lack of dignity... if I were riddled with cancer and barely able to move I feel revulsion at inviting some infantilizing nurse to be the one who killed me...

Having spent the last year in and out of surgery, and witnessed my grandfather go through the hospice cycle... I cannot think of a more indignant mockery of any life one might have lived or hoped to live...

Say what you will about downing a bottle of pills in the bathtub... at least its a vibe.

Imagine having so little sense of self worth that a sword and someone having to mop seems an undue expense.

You're dying, subjectively the outcome is no different than if the world itself ended...

Deneathor was mistaken in fact, but his instinct wasn't wrong... at the death of your line and the end of all things, one should hope for the dignity to go out like the heathen kings of old.

Whether that be a heroic or anti-heroic last stand... some poetic demise of swords, haiku, and cherry blossoms... a last dramatic plunge from the golden gate bridge...

Something to assert your humanity in the face of the void and evil banal bureaucratic erasure of the subjective...

.

the spree killer, as dystopian as they are is at least still recognizably human... the dystopian Cyberpsycho breaks and turns to massacre because the last human element which hasn't succumbed to the machine rebels against its steel cage...

The willing submission even in death to the biomedical security state... now that is vastly more dystopian... the final acceptance of one's place as mere cell accepting the signal for Apoptosis. A native program of the matrix accepting its final purpose is to return to the source for deletion.

Yes Torontonians are vastly overrepresented in the film industry... (tax credits and architecture that easily plays NYC)... also if you imply Torontonians run Hollywood, then they won't let you work until you apologize for this obviously absurd statement.

DO IT YOURSELF, PUSSY... assisted suicide and the total state

Replying to /u/freemcflurry 's thread below

.

.

Shanti De Corte A 23 year old French Woman has died via assisted suicide. She was 17 when she survived a suicide attack in Rome… despite suffering no physical injury she developed PTSD and 6 years later was given the fatal injections after a panel of doctors signed off on it.

This is not an isolated incident. I hear stories almost every month of young to middle aged people with decades left to live, often with some physical ailment not even catastrophically disabling (loss of sight in one eye, chronic pain, disability of a limb… things vastly less than paraplegia)… and many that are effectively assisted suicides on mental health grounds alone… I can no longer find the story, but was explicitly assisted suicide for chronic depression.

Now there have been many pieces about the slippery slope of assisted suicide and moral arguments… and of course there are going to some progressives or ardent libertarians who insist this is all a perfectly fine choice for a consenting adult to make… but I don’t really care about all of that…

The overwhelming sentiment I have to all of this is crude but simple:

DO IT YOURSELF, PUSSY

The idea someone with less than full locked-in syndrome should get medically assisted suicide is not only insane… its aesthetically revolting.

If you can't summon the will to do it yourself even with full use of your physical faculties (of which suicide only requires one functional finger), then clearly you aren't emotionally competent to assign the task to someone else, and are quite frankly beneath such a grandiose gesture.

I've read multiple books by men who committed sepuku. One was a westerner who was paralyzed from the chest down (and didn't feel a thing)... another was a Japanese writer who, for a myriad of psychological and philosophical reasons, choose to do so in all its pain despite being in fine (actually peak) physical shape, Both of these I found eminently respectable. Whether one agreed with either man, the courage and will involved in either act revealed a beauty of spirit and rendered their logic something that had to be engaged with....

For adults (allegedly physically and mentally competent according to the state that accepts their signature) to choose not just death, but death in the hands of some bureaucrat/matriarch appointed by the state and medical establishment... to seek the return to the womb, and infantilizing comfort of some schoolmarm telling them "everything will be ok", of the disgusting toxic surrender to the surrogate mothering of a "Death Doula"…

This deserves not our pity or concern but our contempt and hatred.

.

Say what you will about school shooters or suicide bombers... of the columbine shooters or 9/11 hijackers...Their rejection of this life and the world had the grandiosity and horror such a choice deserved. In their pain, rage, hate, and nihilism they at least had the dignity to let out a primal scream in their rejection of life.

At the hour and venue of their choosing they made their statements, and expressed everything they felt was a summation of their lives without even a thought to compromise... what statement are these assisted suicides making!?

To decide, out of all places on earth, you want to die in a hospital surrounded by the beeps and stench of piss covered by industrial cleaner? To choose for the hour of your demise the half hour slot the office clerk could find on the schedule? To choose as your last confessor the obese nurse some state bureaucrat selected out of the set who were working that day?

This is contemptable. The final farce of the cradle to grave welfare and biomedical security state.

I imagine these depressive but physically fine adults hoping that maybe this extreme expression, this final most extreme plea for help will extract from the uncaring state the love and affection their teachers promised but never delivered. That they might finally receive the love all the utilitarian and progressive rhetoric promised them... that the institutions they've come to see as father, mother, and lover will react to their pleas with all the affection and benevolence they've been taught to expect from neither parent, priest, or partner...

maybe as the bored RN tells them "Its alright, just a little sleep" they'll delude themselves into thinking that's what they've received... the matriarchy's most intimate soothing coo...

.

These people and institutions deserve our hate not for taking life but for the ritualistic mockery they make doing it... The Aztec heart cutters at least had a style and didn't lie about their knives... and the sun god was vastly more appeased than whatever "Comfort and dignity" is supposed to be assuaged by the syringes, hypocrisies, and economical hospital decoration.

The final sublimation of that most extreme, personal, and human of choices into the banal indifference of the bureaucratic state.

.

If someone is to reject life and all bonds of the living, then let them lead the police on a high speed chase before crashing into a wall… let them go to Vegas and drink themselves to death… let them wander off into the pale white of an ice-flow or chart their boat into the eye of the hurricane... let them blast their brains out on the floor of the state senate, or commit seppuku in the magic kingdom under the unblinking gaze of mickey's plastic mask... let them crash planes and bulldozers into buildings, or their bodies into the surf or concrete after defiant jumps...

And if one lacks the will and resolve to express their death with all the violence and horror a choice to take one’s life deserves… then clearly they also lack the seriousness to surrender their life to another.

Let them prove they truly lived at least a minute before they died. Let out a primal scream before disappearing beyond the vanishing point.

The health expenditure is what gets me.

The drinking and hedonism is cheap, as you said college kids can afford it. Its the months of kemo, surgery, etc. that gets me.

Having just spent the better part of a year and half in and out of surgeries so that i could make the most of another 60 years... the idea that you'd suffer for a year or longer and fritter away the wealth of a life of work that you could use to set up your children and grand children, only to live infirmly another 5ish years... its madness.

I saw my grandfather decline for years and months, and how often he'd openly speak of wanting a car crash to get him...only to spend the last 6+ months in and out of hospitals, unable to even use the washroom himself

If I get that old and frail I hope I can make it to an iceflow.

Obviously if HBD were not true, the Jews of Europe would be basket cases after the holocaust suffering under incalculable intergenerational trauma.

Israel would not have been found-able, and we'd see natural forming Ghettos where jews drink themselves to death, abuse heroin at insane rates, have rates of teen pregnancy, sexual assault, and incest vastly worse than even the most remote indigenous communities in north america, test scores that are barely measurable, single digit high-school graduation rates... and a double digit percentage of them wracking up felony convictions often before they can legally drink.

Instead of criticizing their apartheid regime against palestinians or lamenting the Casualties of Isreals various wars we'd be etternally wringing our hands that the Nuremburg laws never ended, that the French and German carceral states were the new face of the holocaust and that european civilization is eternally National Socialist in character... angry students would confront university presidents demanding he answer if he is a nazi, and in his political correctness he'd be unable to deny it... to keep his jo he'd have to weep and lament that jews remain so underpresented, and their graduation rate so abysmal, that an inescapable Nazism must pervade his campus and that he is trying to learn to defeat the hitler in his heart (much as the president of Evergreen didn't feel he could deny he was a white supremacist, but had to make weeping apologies for a white supremacy he would not endorse but could not deny being part of)

The film and entertainment industry would be desperate to shoehorn jewish actors and characters into traditionally white and black roles... and every year at the oscars holywood would make a big show of how many more jews they nominated for high awards... though the more critical commentators would point out they were still underrepresented in the behind the scenes money making positions, and regularly missed top billing.

I would literally say never and it is worth spending millions if not billions of lives to make sure the answer is never.

This is what we claimed to fight for in all those wars... freedom. If the state sets itself up against the freedom of the citizenry then it has abandoned every charge it ever held, betrayed all our dead, declared itself an enemy of the human race as it seeks to reduce the human to merely an expendable resource of the regime... and unlimited violence is justified to bring about its end as such.

A free person responds to those who'd chain them with violence. A feral animal has this much dignity. one who wouldn't is neither free, is surrendering their personhood, and is barely even an animal anymore, they have accepted being a mere symbiote, a cell, of an alien entity who cares not for them.

Its more complex that it appears... there's both the "Women are a meme aspect" which is rude, but also taboo, ergo funny...

But there's also the deeper psychological insight that women are consistently vastly more psychologically vulnerable to memes than men... mass hysterias have been disproportionately female since the Devils of Loudon and Salem, women are vastly more vulnerable to social contagion diseases (Anorexia, Cutting, gender dysphoria)...and generally accept socially acceptable memes, even if they're absurd, vastly more readily than men.

Which is all what we'd expect given one of the most heavily gender loaded traits is trait agreeableness.

Not even being Pendantic.

The CDC still requires a full vacination regime ofr covid to enter the US, and every unvaxed Canadian or anyone else risks being turned around for their personal medical decision when they try to enter the US. Has happened to my neighbor trying to drive home to Mexico. No sign this is ending.

Canada's Digital vaccine passport regime only ended start of october, so your sept timeline is accurate as well.

.

A whole lot of people are going to try to downplay the fact they forced vast segments of the population into medical appartheid over the next few years, and it should never be allowed to be forgotten. Who you are at the moment of crisis is who your are always. If you were an Auswitz guard in 45 you never got to stop being that, and we should never let the COVID authoritarians take off the mark of Kane either.

One should be humble before God, but realistic in respect to others.

If Cummings is merely "Like a poster here" he's easily in the top 1% of government officials who have ever held senior office, and by far the most competent person in that cabinet. The stupidity, vacuity and hubris of the senior bereaucracy is almost impossible to internalize...

Its genuinely unbeleivable a man like Cummings penetrated it at all... The elite circles run off socialite style norms related to connections and status games that actively select against the kinds of people who make cohherent mental models and try to make them accord with the world. It the same as career politicans only with more pretense and less charisma, you see this in most academic sub-feilds related to politics as well...

The relationship of the words to actually reality is a 20th or 30th concern... the first concern is its relationship to Taboos and social signaling, and what's worse is all these fields select for people who do it subconsciously and can't tell the difference. People who aren't even capable of being true believers because they don't inherently process their words as being about the world as opposed to their social games.

.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes has a great moment:

The enemy out numbers the protagonist's fleet 3 to 2, and everyone's nervous about this... they would like to withdraw in the face of the superior force, but they can't because the enemy has divided into 3 that are able to head them off if they try any retreat...

Well the young High Admiral announces his plan. this is a classic case where defeat in detail is possible, if they strike out hard and fast at one of these enemy fleets they'll outnumber them 2 to 1... and then if they strike quick they can catch another, or worse case merely be outnumber 5-4 taking into account their losses and be able to force a draw... This is a real classic military scenario, Napoleon had a battle that went like this, and something like this is taught in almost every course on strategy.

One of the lesser admirals upon receiving these orders is outraged. "To reach for academic theory at a time like this!? In the midst of BATTLE!?"

so he defies the order tries to disengage his contigent, and he and that contingent die, while the battle turns from a sure defeat to that draw scenario.

The thing is, this lesser admiral who defied the order and died for it... he was the teacher of theory at their military academy! He had taught this theory every year for 20 years. Yet when given a command that directly aligned with the theory he had studied and taught for decades, he not only balked he was outraged!

To him all the theory he taught were polite words and and a social game, they bore no relation to the battlefield, they were related to academic life... he had dedicated his life to repeating the words and social concepts of being a professor of strategic theory, and he wasn't just willing to repeat those theories if they were wrong in fact, so long as they advanced his career... in his mind they only bore relation to his career, the idea they could be right or wrong about real battlefields in the future, as they were happening, was suplurflous or laughable. The theories were social games you played to describe maybe historical battles... And whether his own theories were right or wrong if deployed in the field was a laughable concern relative to how interesting or socially viable they might be...

He regurgitated "Defeat in detail" on tests, then in classrooms as the teacher... he maybe even believed he believed it... but to actually believe it would have meant resisting the thought, putting it under pressure, testing its mettle and how well he could rely on it... looking for contradictory examples, and only being satisfied once he'd concluded it'd held under his harshest scrutiny... And that's not what a "Model Student" who aspires to become a star teacher does. What if you discovered it was wrong? Or rather, in his psychology, that he's wrong and contrary to the social expectation. Is he going to risk placing himself in opposition to the institutional machinery he needs to appease and serve?

So when he received an order based on a theory that happened to be one of the best documented and well theorized realities of warfare ever given a name... one every moderately good strategy gamer should recognize intuitively... he balked and was outraged that some punk was either trying to play a status game to fuck with him, or that he's being lead by some dangerously delusional true believer who thinks these words were meant to constrain expectations about physical reality.

.

I've interacted with alot of academics, politicians, bureaucrats, mainline corporate types... everyone that's actively checked-in to the system instead of checked out and disgusted... the kind that will repeat the slogans sincerely... they're almost all like this fictional professor. Our society applies incredible consequences for social faux-pas and almost none for actually being wrong or ineffective. We lack both the scarcity and the high intensity warfare that creates those consequences for being wrong, and are drowning in the centralizing over-socialized morass that makes social norms sting.

Thus the people who get ahead in all but very niche fields are those who spend their lives thinking in relation to the social norms, and feel no compunction about any contradiction with physical reality for any myriad of psychological reasons ("What no I'm not making a probabilistic prediction!? what do I look like a booky! How Low class")... And those who are actually capable of making their ideas commit them to predictions and confine expectations are consistently selected against, or actively punished (Psychologically or socially).

Imagine the reaction if you asked a politician or bureaucrat who'd just made some optimistic statement about education for black kids to actually wager real money about what the test scores would be in 5 years on a consistent test... Naively one would think it'd matter if the politician didn't want to... if we expect the program to fail shouldn't we be doing something different NOW.... but of course they'd be outraged not at the politician who refused the wager with some "I don't wager on matters of morality" bromide... but at you for trying to impose expectations, and worse being willing to bet against black kids (you racist).

The idea these polite statements about opportunities for the future and everyone getting a chance should correspond to realized on the ground reality is laughable in politics, or an actively rude attack... And that casual dishonestly, even in one's own thoughts, that dismissal of the very possibility of a truth value in those words... that casual evil of banality... that's slowly infected everything our government or elite class has touched, and our elite no longer produces people meaningfully able to reach back and relate their linguistic games to reality any more...

they are all that professor of military theory and will intuitively turn and run when their own theories tell them they have the advantage... because that moment will be the first time they have to relate their words games to reality, and they'll immediately know (even if they don't already) that they haven't been doing that, and every cached thought, even one as basic as "Defeat in Detail"... They can't trust.

You do get walkable commuter suburbs in older cities like toronto, montreal, where there's a grid and busses or streetcars just go through every part of the city in a more or less straight line and its really intuitive to just go north or south...

But the thing is you can't control who's entering your neighborhood and everyone walks down every single street to get everywhere.

Toronto has a murder rate of 2 per 100,000 the richest city in America... DC its 16 per 100,000. even with drug problems and homeless people etc, wealthy proffessionals are fine living in "Inner Suburbs" of cities like toronto, because even though you get crazies shouting down your street at 2am... the police will respond to noise complaints and it probably won't escalate beyond that.

To have the same security in the US you either need to build your city in the most hostile manner to exclude anyone who doesn't own a car, or you'd need ruthless public or private security enforcement... that either puts people away a long time, or is violent enough in the immediate enforcement they don't come back.

Even in Canada with a 1-2% black population there are endless stories of how "disproportionate" police enforcement on the black population is... in the US? with 13% of the population being black? you can have hostile unwalkable suburbs, "White flight", or what would look like and open race war to keep those cities livable for professionals with kids.

Probably helps that the Mexican government never wages war on the productive classes within the city and never forced the children of the middle-class into the most violent neighborhoods at bayonet point.

America had functional urban life from its founding to the 1960s... then the federal government waged literal war on it

.

edit: this is why Canadian cities consitently remain intact in-spite of everything, even with modern homelessness and drug problems the middle and upper-middle class will still live in "inner suburbs" as few as 100 meters from housing projects or homeless shelters... because they can send their kids to schools, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, where their kids won't be interacting with that and anyone dealing drugs or interrupting class or comitting violence would be removed.

This is why there's a weird current of pop culture that looks at the Cyberpunk Sci-fi city as utopia. the city where the very vastness has resulted in it becoming a new frontier, the concrete jungle... etc.

The idea you could have all the idiosyncrasy of the country with all the opportunity of the world at your finger tips... because enforcement had broken and no one could be made to care about stepping on their neighbors toes.

.

Its the only "dystopia" that people are actively excited to revisit again and again, or whose style they try to emulate... no one's clamoring for more stories in Oceania... there's no hype train for being able to play in the world of Atlas Shrugged

Men and women used to have common interests, but seperate spheres.

Everyone went to the same movies, dances, etc... but men had clubhouses (litterally this is what service clubs were) women had their own seperate spaces, and this was how you had cross gender and homosocial relationships...

Now to get the value of single sex spaces you prettymuch need to dive into some niche interest that's actively repellant to the opposite sex. men can't just have men only drinking and social clubs, that's sexist, you have to cultivate something so nichely male coded that it will actively prevent women from trying to voluntarily occupy the space... thus you get something like warhammer 40k which could be summarized as "history, but actively trying to alienate women"

One wonders how many of the great crimes in history have occured from the efforts of "Team players"

How one does one thing is how one does all things and With the first link the chain is forged.

This is OPs opportunity to either show their students that yes they can insist on being honest to the themselves and others, or no they must constantly lie to both and lead a life of shame.

I'd say OP is \obliged, for the sake of their own virtue, to live honestly EVEN IF IT WOULD COST THEM THEIR JOB.

Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Who you are right now is who you are choosing to be in your brief moment on the stage and who you will be for the rest of eternity as your actions echo down the endless halls of time.

You have a brief 80 years out of millions to make your change to the world... are you really going to spend that one chance you've got speaking another's words, doing another's work, living another's dream?
