Isn’t the central American Revolutionary mythology basically false? No taxation without representation is basically bullshit? Everything I have seen indicates total attempted taxation was like 1-2% of colonial income which to modern me basically feels like zero. My gut says having the British Navy to protect trade lanes was probably worth that contribution. British subjects in Britain were paying something like 20%.
I think that would be something like being a US allied country today and equivalent to the 3% of gdp to the military within NATO.
I guess you can make an argument that it still needed to happen for the country to grow and achieve manifest destiny. I have forgotten a lot of history so perhaps there were pressing concerns but that’s a lot of blood to be spilled to not paying a small tax where you also got some military protection. It doesn’t feel like a war that could have passed any just war theory.

99% of males who can hold down a professional career would view this behavior as strongly correlated with getting shot. It’s also possible according to the video that he had some plan of shooting a bunch of ICE guys as he appears to reach for his gun after he had be unarmed.
I am semi-surprised Right-Wing media hasn’t tried the suicide by ICE narrative because this clearly looks like suicide by ICE. It’s not going to be 100% of the time but solidly in the 2-10% chance something happens and you get shot.
I remember when learning Russian military ideology was the popular thing to do. A key Russian doctrine was escalate to deescalate. Which is basically where the Trump admin is right now.
You could choose to deescalate though you’ve earned legitimacy to act thru elections. I think a lot of people feel like their empathy has been abused over time. You are a nazi if you question tran kid surgeries and a Nazi if you do genocide.
To get immigration enforcement you not only need to win a lot of elections. You also need to be good at working the processes in the bureaucracy or ignoring them. Then apparently there is still a hecklers veto. If you try to do things the right way you’re never going to win. At some point a lot of us just decided if your going to call me a Nazi anyway then maybe I will just be the bad guy.
Doing things “cruelty” actually works. Shooting protestors - eventually gets rid of protestors. Being mean to migrants discourages future migrants in the future when the other side is in power. So yes I think the right has learned that just be the bad guy has a lot of benefits.
I think the right would prefer to be nice guys and when we win elections we get to do the stuff we want to do. Dealing with things like the hecklers veto it’s going to be much easier to be the bad guy.

The young though are changing. Perhaps the current members of congress have not changed but they will die out. A lot of people though have pivoted on these issues. I’ve gone from a billion American believer to a decade later preferring 0 immigration and mass deportations. I bet some members of congress have gone down a similar path. If you live in a country/culture where the central mythos is “all men are created equal” then you may want to cover up evidence of that being false. All American and to a great extent Western Europe is now based on that myth.

I think it’s less true today that politicians are once left of their voters on immigration. The lefts focus on woke made the right thing a lot more intellectually on race. And now you have hbd and Saylor and plenty of people with scientific arguments on why race matters and you need to get the people of the wrong races out of your country.

Military can still be high status but it’s far more narrow today. In WW1 from what I’ve read the British elite took a lot of military deaths. If you go into Special Ops - Seal Teams/Delta it has a lot of respect. Lesser Green Beret. Some of this is fitness bro respect. I guess this is dated now but the Pritzkers and the governors brother is a colonel (also a tranny now). It’s more narrow now but there are some paths with military prestige.
I have not followed the case. But being a coward in the moment does not seem like a criminal charge to me.
His appropriate punishment is being fired from the police force for being a coward. Most decent jobs in his community he is rejected from. He then has to take a job paying $25 an hour as the night shift manager at McDonalds.
