I want to double this and kind of ask the question in a different way:
If someone says: "I am a woman, and I want to be a man" - we put the person through an intense, and experimental regimen of hormones and surgery. We do massive amounts of work, with a few high profile regretters. The process seems to carry a high risk of infertility?
If someone says: "I am gay, and I want to be straight" - nope. Sorry. Technology just isn't there. You have to accept who you are. There is nothing we can do, nothing we can try. "But I really don't want to be-" stop internalizing your own homophobia. Your lived experience here is wrong. - is this an exaggeration? I'm not trying to strawman here.
Really in all directions, I feel like I have seen a lot of people in my life go from evidently and obviously straight to gay. Like, if they were closeted, they were Daniel Day Lewis level acting and hiding their true feelings for decades. Even talking to one wife just shrugged and was like "it literally makes no sense". I have never seen someone go from gay to straight (sorry, I don't believe Milo). Even members of my faith who do the "i'm gay but I'm not acting on it" don't try to pretend that they became straight. Why? If it's a spectrum, and fluid, why does it only ever seem to go in one direction?
I hope this doesn't come across as hostile or sarcastic - I'm genuinely curious how a lot of this stuff works inside the brain/body, and if there was a way to change it how that might change a lot of things. I get why on some levels we don't - awful stories of conversion therapy attempts from the 70s and 80s seem to have really hurt a lot of people. Maybe there are people who had a successful time and we just don't hear about them. But I'm guessing the outcomes were negative, and the health establishment isn't willing to risk it again. But they seem to be willing to risk it for other things - and if it's consenting adults as opposed to minors, then well...give er? I'm assuming there is still a market for "Christian guy who doesn't want to be gay", but maybe not as much.

Most recently, Top Gun: Maverick appears to buck this trend. The mentor/mentee relationship is Tom Cruise/Miles Teller, and then at the end of the movie Tom Cruise realizes "No I actually don't really have to hand things off to you". They kind of both save each other.

I sometimes think that in the vacuum of having any national identity (which is bad, patriotism is generally bad as many here would say), the national identity has just become some kind of "feel superior to the americans". It happens at political levels when Dobbs was passed and Trudeau made a big thing about abortion and contracepton. It happens with healthcare, we accept mediocrity because "at least we aren't the USA" and i think we do it with immigration too.

I have 0 philosophy background and have really struggled with Beyond Good and Evil. I think i must be missing some key context. Claude has helped a bit but i also have a difficult time trusting that it's giving me the right summaries.
Mind and Cosmos was another one that I just could not grok. I'll have to keep pressing on. But sometimes it feels like I'm reading a book on algebra when i never learned what addition and subtraction were or something

The church statement was confirmed by Deseret News, and KUTV. It originated from an employee named Doug Anderson, and at least I'm tapped into rumors in LDS-land that yeah, it's bad and the Church is pissed at Ballard. If the Church would like to make a statement disavowing the Vice article, they have had 5 days to do so and have not.

It's funny - I asked my optometrist relative if he had "noticed" anything, like no studies per se, but a gut feeling of something you've realized looking at dozens of eyes a day for years and years. He said he was almost certain that kids not spending enough time outside was linked to why more kids need glasses today. So I'm always trying to do the opposite, get my kids outside for reasonable increments depending on UV index, etc.
Recently some govt org here in Canada made the recommendation that kids be encouraged to participate in lightly risky activities, and that was always a thing I've tried to do. There are some things where I think - as long as the risk of this going bad doesn't result in long term damage, I'm fine with it. My wife stays at home which makes a lot of this much easier, because we know our kids and their limitations really well. It seems to work out well.

How are we supposed to know if he's genuinely using the pronouns or not? Unless he admits to trolling, the rules are we have to take him at his word.
Being somewhat facetious here, but I don't think many of the rightists blowing up the non-binary thing suddenly think that this stuff is legit. Myself I think it's possible, but makes sense that it could be an easy way to avoid a hate crime charge (how could I hate them, I am them!), or could also just be true. But it is very...i don't know the adjective, something, that the rules established by the progressive class are now suffocating them. They cannot say that he's faking it without destroying a central tenet of many of these people which is that Self Id Is God.
I'm not saying all progressives believe this, Jesse Singal for one was very good at pointing out the insanity with Jessica Yaniv, but enough do that many of us watched the coverage of this thing evaporate instantly among some previously engaged people.

Ok I have no knowledge of this show, but you mentioned my people - are these people members? They don't have wikipedia pages. If they're putting woke stuff in shows, it may be possible that like many a show-biz member, they've fully been subsumed into the successor ideology and calling them "mormon" is a stretch.
I only quibble (just a bit!), because my tradition has produced the Battlestar Galactica guy, Orson Scott Card, Brandon Sanderson (is he good? Feels like people like him). I'll admit to having little knowledge of fantasy or sci fi literature but at least my impression was that we typically punched decently well above our weight class, perhaps not so

I live in Southern AB and had a chance to talk to a border guard recently. He mentioned the process of "flagpoling" - i guess new arrivals (visitor visa, education etc.) Can apply for permanent residency but the process takes a few months. What they do is drive across the border to the USA, get turned back, and then just by pulling up to the canadian border on the way back, it expedites the permanent residency application to be days. The border guard said most of his time now was filling out residency applications. Seems bad imo.

Is there any source for indiana jones reshoots beyond just this guy? The movie comes out on June 30 - They premiered it at Cannes on May 18. I have no idea how this would possibly work - the Writers Strike (ongoing since May 2) means you can't actually rewrite anything AFAIK, organizing actors, travelling, shooting, and doing post-production in that short amount of time? I can't find anything in the trades about it either, surely someone would have spotted Harrison Ford or Phoebe Waller Bridge or someone on a plane or out and about.

Moviebattles 2: a mod for Star Wars, Jedi Academy.
Finally, someone figured out how to do sabers vs guns in a multiplayer game. It's basically a standard class based deathmatch - various classes with abilities that you spend points to buy. You could be a bounty hunter with snipers and grenades, a sith who can jump and run and blast people with 2 handed lightning, a droideka with powerful shield and quick movement - possibilities are nearly endless. Playing on a series of movie accurate maps (seriously, the Phantom Menace hangar/throne room map...), 2 teams of various units face off to either kill everyone or complete the objective.
The lightsaber isn't a baseball bat. It's a one hit kill (unless the super battle droid opted for Cortosis!), BUT, when not in blocking stance, you are vulnerable to blaster fire. A skilled jedi could wipe out numerous trooper type units, but working together a good soldier could hold their own. The dueling as well, I never could figure out but was pretty high skill ceilinged. Really really fun, hours and hours of my youth on that.

I thought The Lego Movie was a innovative use of CGI that made something genuinely impressive, especially how well they got the lighting figured out. It made sense narratively that it should look like that, and acted as a good contrast for the later emotional live action beats.

I would say I did. I went to public school in Canada in what was considered the sort of "mid-upper class" suburb outside of a more major city. High school had a population of about 400 people, can't really remember what the size of Jr High or Elementary was. I would say that I got along with all of my teachers - there was one teacher who wore her politics on her sleeve and I do remember butting heads against her quite a bit, but there was another one who was a very vocal avowed feminist type but was also really really good, very fond memories. I guess she always kind of had a self deprecating vibe about the whole thing which made it kind of fun.
I would not consider myself as a "popular" kid, but I was definitely "well liked", I could generally be friendly and interact with most if not all of the various cliques without trouble. I do not think that I was ever bullied - despite being by far the shortest person of my age category, I was able to lean into it and have enough confidence that if that was happening, I just didn't register it.
My parents were deeply involved in my schooling, the expectation was 80% minimum grades. If my grades started to slip then it was discussion about what we could do, did I need a tutor? one on one time with the teacher? did I need to remove any extracurriculars? I don't think I would have had the grades I did if they weren't as involved. I also had the opportunity to be in various musical theater productions, including playing the lead in a school musical which played at the local town 500 seat theater, which was a treasured experience I'm glad I got to have.

Right, the way OP phrased it suggested the reshoots were because of the reception at Cannes which struck me as impossible. I figured there were probably standard post production reshoots last year as with a lot of these types of movies

He was hired by SNL and then fired quickly after in 2019 after some impressions of Chinese people and what was called "homophobic" humor surfaced from old podcast episodes. I can't remember the specific jokes.
I see his stuff occasionally and he's definitely not afraid of certain things, mental disability and even talking about different races in positive and negative ways. He's pretty moderate i would say, just wants to make people laugh

Ok trying to find counter-examples going through my letterboxd:
Sicario - Emily Blunts Character is kind of the protege to Benicio Del Toro...and he does not let her girlboss her way past him. This one probably is more interesting along a masculine/feminine valence rather than a racial one.
Tenet - I mean, technically it ends with Pattinson handing off the reins to John David Washington...but that's in the past, the future will be JDW handing off the reins to Pattinson! (probably doesn't count)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - They went with Shia, a young white guy! Granted this was 2008. But also not really - at the end there's this (really good) moment where Shia is about to pick up the fedora and then Ford walks by and takes it from his hand, almost like a "nope, no torch for you".
Not quite related but recently watched Touch of Evil (1958) - there is a fascinating thing there where even back in 1958 the American Police Captain is the corrupt one, and the virtuous Mexican detective is the good guy - Worth noting in this case the Mexican is being played by Charlton Heston (!) which is also funny.
As a member of a professional association, there is a sense where I can see where they are coming from. I also feel like there is no way if he was using the same invective against say, Nazis or Donald Trump (like calling him an odious thing, or saying "Not Beautiful!" About him), that he would be in this situation. In fact, I've seen him say pretty rude things about anons on twitter (much to the consternation of them) but that didn't make it into the complaints...
However, it comes with the territory. If you want to be a member of the College you gotta pay the jizya, which is to say, cool it. I do enjoy the irony in complaint a, which could likely become an official government recommendation (under MAID) when/if they extend it to mentally ill people. It may literally become a College practice to tell patients that "they are welcome to leave at any time"
