...And even amongst the people with nice jobs and nice houses there are plenty who live in "Red" areas.
I feel like there's a tendency here to forget that there are tech jobs outside of FAANG and Silicon Valley startups, and that there is serious engineering work being done in states like Tennessee and Texas.
But as you say, voting is a game for the masses, and perhaps this is why the democrats suddenly seem so keen to "protect" democracy from bad outcomes. Ie things the masses might vote for.
I don't think it's "lack of discipline" so much as the DNC leadership hasn't really adjusted to the new normal. They're acting like they still have the capability to manufacture consent/consensus that they did 10 - 15 years ago, but the thing about burning trust for near tearm gains is that it inevitably screws you in the long term.
Like, @pigeonburger says below, they thought they could Jedi Mind-trick the public into seeing what they wanted them to see only for the public to pull a Watto.
You are not alone.
A cynic might view the apperent desire to avoid a simple and obvious solution to the dilemma as evidence that this is not "a dilemma" as much as it is a power-play.
The worst part about this is that Biden is, like Trump, one of the most dishonest candidates of all-time. The number of lies he told during the debate alone was shocking. As is his history of creating self-aggrandizing stories out of whole cloth.
There's a line in Catholic doctrine that goes something like "the accuser reveals thier nature in the accusation". One can debate its correspondence to reality but i think there is some element of truth to the idea that "a thief will assume others to be thieves" and "a liar will assume others to be liars".
Edit: I'm not saying I endorse it, but there is a line of thinking that goes...
"Biden and his supporters know that Biden is a self agrandizing liar who takes bribes, the only reason they're accusing Trump of the same crime is to level the playing field."
My impression is that Trump handily managed to meet or exceed expectations while Biden visibly struggled to keep up.
Given the alleged differences in preparedness and media friendliness, that doesn't reflect well on Biden or his team.
I don't think it went quite as bad for Biden as had been suggested (he did make some cogent points and even landed a couple of good hits) but he was visibly struggling to keep up and because the position of the Whitehouse plus much of the mainstream media up to this point has been that anyone expressing doubts about Biden's health and vitality is a russian troll, it wasn't a good look. In order to meet expectations he needed to show up and kick ass, not just barely hold on.
Edit to add: short version is that Trump showed up and appeared to be much more prepared and ready to play than Biden did.
One, "revenue" and "investment" are not the same thing.
Two, your reasoning only holds if one assumes that stock markets are rational. History would seem to indicate that they are not. See the tulip craze.
Stop associating with naughty people then.
I think you need to define what you consider "parity" in this context.
The main thing that LLMs are good at is generating social media engagement (or rather a simiclura thereof) and by extension attracting VC dollars from less tech-savvy investors aiming to get in early on the next Facebook or Google.
Meanwhile they remain largely unsuitable for the sorts of tasks people actually want a notional AGI to automate, namely anything requiring both a high cognitive-load and precision on a short time horizon.
In short, I am only worried about Chinese AI (and GPT5 for that matter) insofar as they will turn TikTok and Instagram into even more of a hellscape than they aready are.
Is there a particular reason that you are trying to evade your ban?
Dutton is undeterred. He argues they will change their tune if he wins a mandate from the electorate for his policy.
Reading this I momentarily felt the simulation breaking down. Are we talking about Australian politics or season 5 of Yellowstone?
Seconded.
One of the few times i can recall actually having my mind changed in an internet argument was somone making the argument that CNN, the Washington Post, FOX News, Et Al were all corporations and if "freedom of the press" didnt protect them, who did it protect?
In what way would you say that Citizens United was an "own goal"?
Ahh, a fellow Toyota owner. 😀
Again, I think that you are woefully out of touch with what "normal people" believe.
If anything the OP's active efforts to appear untrustworthy as documented by @anon_ and @confuciuscorndog may themselves have triggered the scrutiny.
My guess would be that as a general rule, people who are seriously concerned about security don't maintain consistent pseudonyminous identities on public forums, and if they do, they try to blend in with the background rather than advertise thier presence.
Seconded and endorsed across the board.
These are the product of trying to use captchas as ai training data which i find both terrifying and weirdly reassuring in a way.
One of the simplest and easiest ways to ward off bots, scammers, and trolls is to institute an minor inconvenience that disproportionately effects bad-faith-actors. Most normal users will think nothing of an enforced 30 second delay between login attempts or captcha inputs because they're only logging in so often anyway.
In contrast the scammer running a bot-net or the tumblr-troll hopping between multiple sock-puppets is definitely going to notice.
Because expanded opportunities for gamesmanship increases thier power/status relative to the stereotypical "low information voter"
I think that you are woefully out of touch with what "normal people" believe.
If any thing media viewership and trust were already trending downward before 2020 and the pandemic coupled with the George Floyd "summer of love" killed what was left.
We live in a world where (if a quick Bing.com search is to be believed) Joe Rogan's podcast averages more listeners per week than all of CNN.
You weren't supposed to notice that. ;-)
