Yes, HP is left wing and yes Voldemort was Nazi-inspired; of course he was, that's the modern incarnation of evil. But Harry himself wasn't particularly lefty, he was mostly interested in solving his personal problem with Voldemort. The left-wing paragon role was left to Hermione. How to do a right-wing version of the story would depend on what "right wing" you want. An American 'gun nut' right wing wouldn't actually be so far from canon, except for the major changes that you'd have to have Dumbledore be an outsider, and throw Hermione out on her ear. Traditional European blood-and-soil would be difficult to do without replacing half-blood Harry, of course; perhaps Neville Longbottom could be the hero.

Democratic control of the press means whatever is worst for the Republicans will be front and center of the voter's minds. And the fifth column among the base supposedly mad that Trump didn't deport 100 million people (that is, Fuentes) doesn't help.

Explanation A is uncharitable to Jane Doe but charitable to the accused. Explanation B is charitable to Doe but uncharitable to the accused. Charity provides no answers here, only a political preference for one sex or the other does.

We live in a majority Democratic country. A small number of those Democrats will vote Republican when the Democrats are in power and screwing everything up by the numbers. A large number of Republicans will vote Democratic if Republicans are in power and screwing up any one thing. So I expect a Democratic landslide, Blue Texas and all.

Presumably they got scared of the mob and turned around.
Not the mob, but the juggernaut of state force behind them. Confrontations between left-wing mobs and right-wing defenders lead not only to injury but charges for the right-wing side. Even when the principal himself defended himself in a mild way, he was arrested.

The analogy with Christianity pretty much falls apart with prostitutes; as far as I know Jesus forgave them but expected them to stop being prostitutes. But on another level the whole thing fails because it was right to be worried about Christianity; it led not only to wars and upheaval but ultimately the collapse of the Roman Empire, the Crusades, Islam, and wokeness.

Jack Smith is the special prosecutor who went after Trump for the Mar a Lago case and a January 6 case. The first was dismissed by Trump appointee Aileen Cannon who said (with some backing from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas) his office was illegal. The second was actually dismissed by an Obama appointee after Trump won the 2024 election.

The words "freesia" and "verbena" are the common names of flowering plants. I wouldn't say 'yakuza' (a member of a particular Japanese crime organization, or collectively the name for the organization) is a technical term either. I'm not sure "doula" qualifies either.

The broken window fallacy says there's a benefit to the broken window. The argument here is that the detriment is less than you get with just by counting the price paid for the window, which is true -- the glazier does indeed benefit, even though the net effect is loss.

The reasoning in the second paragraph should cast doubt on the first. It's not going to be a spectacle. It's going to be a video of a guy in a wheelchair, restrained, hooded, and with a target placed on his heart, who is then shot to death by several people. It will be brutal, but it won't be a spectacle. And I think Hegseth knows this.
I don't know why he wants it publicly streamed. But I think it's a good thing. Whether you're for or against the death penalty, you should be able to see what it is.
