How foreign? Ukraine is barely a country, and the people don't seem very enthusiastic about the fight. AFAICT this war is perpetuated by the government for the government at the expense of the people.
I think Ukraine is a dead state regardless of whether the war ends today. The demographic damage is apocalyptic.
Surrounded by healthy children and grandchildren, I'd say. And the dudes being rounded up and forced into the meatgrinder at gunpoint don't seem to share your sentiment. The young women, fleeing, never to return. Whom exactly does this war serve, on the Ukrainian side? Because it sure doesn't seem to serve the people.
If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.
I don't claim to be especially informed here but on the face of it, and from the beginning, it still seems to me like fighting the war is likely to result in vastly worse outcomes than simply accepting Russian rulership.
Excellent stuff. I do sport a beard though.
Bleu de Chanel sounds like a great place to start. I'll see about getting a sample. Or is this something where I can walk into some kind of store?
Might repost this next week if I missed the boat, but:
Been thinking lately I'd like to get into cologne. Seems like a missing dimension. Not sure where to start looking, though.
If any of our resident cologne connoisseurs would care to advise me, I'd say my vibe in general is: Outdoorsy, backpacker, very masculine, cigar-smoking businessman in good suit, beach lover in tie-dye. Some of my favorite incenses are sandalwood, frankincense, and sage. The soap I use is palo santo-scented and that works very well for me.
And rest assured I have used cologne before and know how to (and how not).
Just thinking it'd be great to get a sample pack and do some exploring.
He already said it. You run into your backyard screaming. And, if other people also start screaming, you start shooting wildly into electrical infrastructure. What part didn't you understand?
(I kid, @hydroacetylene. Except in this case not really. What are you talking about?)
datacenters are fragile and require constant inputs from outside that we can just cut off
Could we though, if the AI got control of communications infrastructure? Who would coordinate the response, and what are they gonna do, drive over and start giving orders to everyone in person? When the instant they're predicted to do so the entire online machinery of the state turns against them?
And this assuming that there aren't hundreds of thousands of androids and remotely-controlled vehicles available to stop whatever force is mounted for the purpose? When those people can't reliably communicate except in person because their channels are jammed with spoofed messages and important info isn't allowed through at all? And none of their vehicles will start?
I'd say it's time to start working on contingencies for this kind of thing except I can't figure out how to solve the problem even in theory. We have moved our entire capacity to operate in every sphere of life into the precise domain where AI is most powerful.
Yes, thanks, that's the sort of nuance I was hoping someone would delineate.
A lot of the time when I push back here it's not because I disagree but because I want to see the finer structures of someone's thought, to compare notes.
it assumes progressives are obligated to acknowledge every inconvenient truth and fairly integrate it into a coherent system of beliefs about Trump or conservatives in general. In reality, the opposite is true: they pick a preferred narrative, and then cherrypick facts to support it, while ignoring the facts that don't.
This does sound like most progressives to me. It also sounds like most everyone else to me. Do you think progressives are unique in this?
I might be persuaded that elite progressives are more that way than elite conservatives but I'm not sure.
Oh it's pretty great.
Have you read Cadillac Desert? Sounds like it might be up your alley.
Education would be another one. I'm generally not prone to trying to correct the misconceptions of normies in the course of my daily life, but one thing I do bring up from time to time is that additional funding for education generally has little to no effect on outcomes. I encourage them to google that. Because it's something they can immediately grasp (and be shocked by), some even do so!
Doesn't precipitate any major political changes but once I was lucky enough to observe, afterward, that when the subject ("We just need more money for schools!") came up again in a group setting the freshly-pilled normie sat quietly with a distressed look on his face.
From such beginnings, perhaps...
This has me thinking about taxonomy. In this context, let me suggest:
Normie: One who derives political/policy opinions from ambient social consensus
Midwit: One who does the above, but is smart enough to search for supporting (never conflicting) data
Contrarian: One who, driven by reflexive disgust at normie consensus-assumption, searches for conflicting data
My cousin got the vax. Two weeks later? BAM. Falling space junk.
Was thinking of doing the same -- antibiotics, not cat. But not sure what or where to buy.
Attack or lab leak?
Congrats!
This is my hazy recollection but as I understood it there was a sort of ethos to the effect that nobody is actually our enemy; that it's all just misunderstandings among the brotherhood of man and we're all in it together. Real Kumbaya hours. The idea was that muslims aren't actually a problem, they're just fellow deluded humans, and we shouldn't view them as a threat. This was deeply tied into the general punk movement and later became coopted, as I suppose, by the usual marxism.
Yes, correct. Though the relationship between the two isn't so arbitrary. The land and the people coevolve.
No; as a kin group.
A nation certainly can win a war and reap benefits, but the US never quite was one, I think.
I'm not as into it as I used to be but basically just driving personally-owned sports cars at Laguna Seca etc. At the moment I don't own anything interesting and am busy with other pursuits.
I agree that most people would be vastly better off using FSD, and I'd be better off if they did that too. However, personally, I find it to be a worse driver than me and can't stand the sensation of letting it handle things. For example, it always starts moving into a turn just a bit later than I would, takes a bad line, and every single time I have that moment of wondering whether it's going to turn at all. It always does! But not as soon as I would.
I do use it sometimes on long drives on fairly straight freeways, like I5 up and down California.
For reference, I'm an excellent driver in that I drive a ton, have a perfect safety record, and perhaps more importantly have professional training on and off the racetrack. Also the usual high IQ reaction times and 'common' sense. Very conservative, etc. So definitely nothing like the modal murder-chimps surrounding me on the road all day.
And man have I seen it all. Women curling their hair. A man flying by at 80 MPH in a 65 zone, with bad visibility, eating a cob of corn with both hands. Too many examples to even remember any more.
By all means get everyone else on FSD ASAP. Just please don't make it mandatory.
frats taking advantage of drunk girls who wake up with no memory of the night before is incredibly white christian coded
I don't know what you mean by this and can't think of any sense in which it might possibly be the case.
