The standard HBDer take is that culture doesn't matter
This is a laughable assertion. The standard HBD take acknowledges that culture and environment can cripple any person or set of persons, just that asserting those things apply to some situations is also laughable.
Apparently there’s been a big drop in conservative support for gay marriage, all in the space of a year.
People are saying this is big, but it doesn't seem nearly big enough given how obviously duped conservatives who supported this (heck even progressives) were by the propaganda. Lets examine the sales pitch for gay marriage.
-
We just want what's fair. False. They immediately demanded everyone participate.
-
This wont affect your family. False. You and your family will constantly be in court battles to keep your family together against state agents attempting to castrate your kid.
-
This will normalize the gay community. False, they are more depraved in public than ever.
-
Love is love. Maybe?
I dont understand your theory of the case at all. It is that 15 years in prison is an appropriate sentence for... being inexperienced at restraining violent crazy people?
Texas is standing up because they kind of are actually defending themselves against an invasion right now. Several hospitals are basically only serving migrants and aren't being compensated. They are threatening to shut down and leave the state. Biden has no political leg to stand on, and only a thin legal leg that there are 4 strong votes on SCOTUS to kick out from under him, and 2 questionable votes.
Tehran does not have the capabilities to launch a serious war against Israel. They wouldn't get an army to Baghdad, and their airforce would be lucky to get 50% of any attempted strike further than that as well.
Like their proxies Hamas and Hezbollah, their entire goal is to lose spectacularly and hope American and European leftists get extra mad at Israel for being competent at warfare.
I had a longer post that got eaten. But here it is in short:
Americans aren't turning towards Russia, but some are turning away from Europe. The reason is simple, Europe has picked a side in the American culture war, and it is the far left side. That is not a good formula for maintaining good relations with America because even when we have a Democratic government, you guys are still to the left of it by a lot. There's the immigration piece, the welfare, the speech regulations, the climate alarm. And it doesn't help that Brussels and Berlin's default position is "never compromise".
So now we turn to military spending. Europe has failed at this from not only a monetary perspective, but from a readiness perspective to an even worse degree for decades. And what are you asking Americans to defend (while you certainly attempt to appear unwilling to do so yourselves)? An increasingly authoritarian Bureaucracy who are so intent on being authoritarian they'd rather cripple their own economy than let a little freedom spill out.
So, we are at a point similar to the point where we were around 1916 or so. Is it really wise for the US to jump in yet? I'd argue it was far too early for us in WWI. We should have let the sides bleed a bit more and come in and swept it all aside instead of what we did, which yielded the ineffectual Treaty of Versailles and more conflict just a generation later.
money for the big guy" statement
How is that wishy washy? You have to contort yourself into a pretzel to come to any other conclusion.
It's interesting because the guy with the rifle was in some sense doing a right wing coded thing.
Only in the barest sense. It is very important to note he was carrying while committing a crime that crime was false imprisonment and every "protestor" that stops traffic and begins to surround a vehicle should be so charged.
In fact if Foster had shot and killed Perry as he was driving a car towards a protest he would have been in the Rittenhouse position!
Again no. While some jurisdictions would charge you with manslaughter or murder for ramming an illegal protest I think this is a genuine misapplication of prosecutorial discretion and we should probably have a federal civil rights banning such prosecutions. IMO any one whos car is stopped or is being threatened to be stopped by a riot is rightfully in fear of death or great bodily harm. See: https://youtube.com/watch?v=CCtoRHcyirs
I suppose to turn the discussion back to you, if you had clear video that Foster did not point his gun at Perry, and was just walking around, would you accept that he like Rittenhouse did not actually threaten someone and thus Perry shooting him was murder?
Nope, like I said. He Foster forfeited his life rightfully when he join a mob attempting to intimidate and functionally imprisoning people.
I understand your objection, but I think Diamond's book is one of those that taken as how he states it fits into the not even wrong category. You read the book, and it all sounds very science-y and convincing. But then you think about it again and it occurs to you that, hmm wait a minute, how can you even suppose to think about what a "wild" pig, chicken, horse etc actually is? The fact is the ostensibly wild populations of these things are hopelessly interbred with escaped chickens and horses from the early and current selectively bred populations, and its not easily done determinable when breeding really started.
Then you did down into things like his zebra arguments, and they are just obviously rubbish because there are multiple instances of Europeans going to Africa in the 1800s and early 1900s and remarking on how easy to break zebras are, and it seems his zebra-horse comparison is actually like 180 degrees from what actually was the difficulty level. And then you have to think to yourself, "huh, if he got this super easy thing so wrong, how much else is just him spinning nonsense?" And then even small inquiries indicate yes. And your logical conclusion is delving into the rest is simply a massive waste of time and energy.
Title IX is just one avenue to pursue. This looks like a very likely 1st Amendment violation under a myriad of precedents.
How would you explain to an autistic teenage boy the differences between boy people and girl people? In a way that provides useful guidance and doesn't make T seem like a normal thing for any boy who isn't obsessed with sports? In a way that let's them successfully navigate the differences?
Well, #1 I'd make him do some sports. That's the easiest way for any teen to get on the path of appreciating the differences between men and woman. That girl who was good at tag? Guess what, when you both at 15 shes no good anymore. Even the slow boys are beating her. And physical activities involving even a modicum of contact like basketball? Forget it. Its not just that she can barely jump by comparison, its that any man that does even a little physical activity can just move her. And, its actually scary in many ways, because you will be afraid that you are going to break her. Which you could easily do on accident.
If the state is supposed to be not involved in religion, who says gays can't marry?
The state because there is no state interest in a homosexual couple. State marriage only exists to manage procreative couplings. That it is not narrowly tailored doesn't matter. Also the state has other strong interests in deterring homosexuality.
- No. Totally useless and actively harmful like most traffic laws when strictly enforced.
- No. Totally useless and actively harmful like most traffic laws when strictly enforced.
- No. Totally useless and actively harmful like most traffic laws when strictly enforced.
- No(ish). The left lane is a lane. We should utilize all lanes. When traffic is slow it is better to use them all and it would be stupid chaos if people were passing, merging, then being passed in the left lane. But, if you are slow in the left lane while there is open road, you should be tailgated, and all liability for any collisions should attach to you, the slow loser.
- This situation does not exist. People don't have time for this shit. Just drive everyone.
- I find these rules largely evil and written for the purposes of giving out arbitrary traffic tickets, not improving driving conditions on the road. So lots of people should be allowed to ignore them. HOWEVER, many people who have drivers licenses should not have such driving privileges. The test should obviously be much more vigorous and then we could make traffic laws that are actually reasonable.
- A drunk driving test should be part of the licensing process, wherein your BAC is monitored while you execute various driving tasks and are force fed alcohol and you should be personally assigned a legal BAC just like you are issued a personal prescription from your eye doctor for your glasses.
But the Palestinians are far more dependent on US and EU aid than the Israelis are. We are much more funding the terror campaigns against Israel than the military operation in Gaza.
When you start talking about Putin's control over Vance and Trump you should double check yourself and think "what am I doing here?"
The reason for the antagonism between the US right and Europe and Ukraine right now is not a mystery, and you don't need Putin based conspiracy theories to explain it.
Part 1: Ukraine has been acting as part Democrats international money laundering operations that have been further exposed via the vetting of USAID. They also engaged in an active cover up of those money laundering operations, a but-for, reason that Joe Biden was able to win in 2020. In other words. Zelensky went all in betting on Biden. His son's freedom was in Zelensky's hands after all.
Part 2: Zelensky doubles down on being partisan in 2024, actively campaigning for Biden then Harris.
Part 3: Ukraine is a symptom of longstanding fractures between Europe as a whole and the American right. Europe has been militarily freeloading for almost a century at this point. On top of that the cultural shift is probably even more problematic. The European reaction Vance's freedom of speech speech has been disturbing. There hasn't been an ounce of self reflection, just pure agitprop and condescension. But lets be clear, yes they are the baddies. There are the ones imprisoning grandmas for praying 30 meters from an abortion clinic and dads for calling a Muslim who raped his daughter a rapist.
They'd probably arrested Vance if he was some comedian instead of the VP. The situation isn't just bad. It is really bad.
Nyberg appears to be some small-time individual who got 15 minutes of fame and has moved on to doing whatever she does now
Rarely a good defense of a movement. Worse so because Nyberg appears to have gotten that 15 mins (more like a few years). This is a classic example of pedo/LGBTQ overlap, and attempts to downplay the interaction are, IMO extreme bad faith.
The piece argues that housing costs are the primary driving factor behind homelessness.
It is right, but wrong. The problem is more about where homeless people want to live, which is in premium areas. Look at where your typical homeless encampment is, then ask yourself, "if there was a studio apartment in this location, what would rent be?" The answer is always "astronomical." Most US cities actually have lower population now than in 1950, yet they still have homeless people, along with lots of unused housing stock. How can this be? Because that housing is not in the urban core, instead they are abandoned, formerly working class, neighborhoods who's sons and daughters moved to the suburbs, and the people moved to Florida/died. Why don't the homeless live there? The housing is already there. It is cheap/free, it had plumbing at one point, and could get it again, etc. They don't live there because those neighborhoods are for relatively hard working people who are willing to do a 20 minute commute on a bus/rail. Which the homeless are not.
I'm trying to figure out how I would make either characters that are never called attention to, or characters that are an allegory . . . for trans people.
But why? I genuinely don't see a reason to try and have a trans person in your videogame that isn't really calling attention to their transness, and also, I suppose making them seem portrayed in a positive(ish?) manner. I suppose if you are doing something very scifi you could introduce something similar to the Mixmasters, but in a non-sci-fi world it doesn't make sense to try and depict transness in a positive light.
You should take care to think about the consequences of the speech you use. If someone were to be persuaded by your argument, what would that cause them to do?
Well, it would help me to moderate if the meme wasn't so true.
Palestinians don't get any military aid from the West, only a few hundred million annually in humanitarian aid.
Without which the entire economy would collapse and they wouldn't be able to afford a single scrap of metal, let alone a bomb or weapon. Plus the international orgs that aid and abet Iranian resupplies. Its not magnitude alone that matters, its percentage. If we left Palestine 100% on a branch, they would have nothing.
The same entities that oppose shale also make nuclear expensive and hydro and everything. While there are some genuine green activists that would be happy with decarbonization, there are many more who use that as an excuse for the real goal of de-electrification.
Europeans hating Americans is as old as apple pie friend.
The snobbery didn't start with Trump and people's various Putin conspiracy theories either. They were snobbish about GW Bush before Iraq!
Unlike some others here, this is also what happens whenever I learn more about the conflict. Its like seeing a very mean small dog attacking a large dog that occasionally bites back, and obviously it hurts more, but the little dog doesn't learn. Then every once in a while the little dog gets a gang of dogs together and the big dog actually gets serious and they all get chomped. And the stupid little dog's play is always "I'm little the people should let me bite your tail all day, even though they know I'd kill you if I had the chance."
Suddenly? Acknowledging that it is a dangerous disease spreading subculture has been part of the anti-woke right from the beginning.

Because normal people object to being called something other than normal? Trans people having so much support in the media skews how truly abnormal almost everyone thinks they are. Its a bizarre scene whenever a trans person enters any not-LGBTQ (on and on) place and starts trying to fit in. So they often don't even try, they just start being bizzare and demanding respect. Some FTM people can moderately pass as really weak looking soyboys. But they seem much less even a part of the project. Those are mostly very depressed people who's depression continues so brazenly through transition they are lucky to ever see people as they can often not exit their abode. Contrasted with the never passing loud MTFs that so often represent the movement, and well, the abnormality is so stark that calling something that is not that anything but normal is simply a bizarre turn of vocabulary.
