Is there a single person reading the motte that hasn’t heard the term NPC?

You can just read the text by clicking on it. Hiding it all behind “spoiler” blocks breaks the purpose of a forum and seems pointless and honestly just seems like OP being cheeky in asking people to do something pointless and counterproductive, on a post about NPCs, without explaining why.

“Hey guys explain what an NPC is and also do this completely pointless thing which is detrimental to the function of this place and also I won’t explain why. Have fun.”

I don’t understand the point of that.

An NPC is somebody who makes statements or has beliefs but doesn’t have the basis to derive those beliefs on their own.

For instance somebody might say that we should support Ukraine in the war, it wouldn’t be able to reach this conclusion on their own from first principles.

Or they might say something about coming climate catastrophe, but be unable to articulate why, or how, or what that means, or why it’s bad.

An NPC’s worldview is entirely made up of received opinions. A great example I think most people here are familiar with are internet atheists. These are people who will make very strong claims about morality or philosophy, but generally refuse to detail why they think these things or what these things might mean. Another example (although I think it’s basically the same group) is the “I fucking love science” crowd.

I recently switched from "Writer" to "Director of Marketing and Media" did nothing

Those both sound like bullshit jobs.

Genuinely shocked guys don't do group Tinder days where they just all rent suits and go about taking photos in a major city, then all charter a yacht for the day and take photos on it.

Guys used to do stuff like this. It was called "pick up artist" or PUA, and there was a whole subculture around in in 2008 or so.

It's may not be real but it doesn't really have to be.

I have several friends who are doctors. The amount of attention they get from women is actually unbelievable to me. It's so much attention that it becomes a problem, and they have to start hiding things on social media to prevent women from basically stalking them.

So depending on the city, I could absolutely see this as being true, since I've seen a version of it be true first hand.

How do people continue repeating this lie? You are wrong.

Here is one of the people involved: https://youtube.com/watch?v=2zLfBRgeFFo

"10 Held by H for the big guy"

H is Hunter, "The Big Guy" is joe. This isn't conjecture.

On October 15, the Post published another article regarding a business venture relating to CEFC China Energy that Hunter Biden was negotiating with potential investment partners in May 2017, when his father was a private citizen. The Post published a purported email it said came from the laptop, written by one of the prospective investors, on which Hunter Biden was copied. The email described the proposed equity shares of each of the investors in the venture, ending with a reference to "10 held by H for the big guy?" The Post reported the "H" apparently referred to Hunter Biden, and one of his former business partners soon came forward to assert "the big guy" referred to Joe Biden. The former business partner also tweeted a copy of the email addressed to him. In a subsequent email, Hunter Biden said his "Chairman" gave him "an emphatic no", with a later email identifying the "chairman" as his father. The Post also reported on an August 2017 venture Hunter Biden was seeking with Ye Jianming, the chairman of CEFC, but the paper did not associate Joe Biden with that deal. Neither of the two ventures came to fruition.[27][28]

Why do people say stuff like this with such conviction when it is so easily verifiable that it's wrong. I'm sorry to get unnecesssarily upset at this but this entire topic is infuriating to me. Downthread in the discussion about January 6th, you also have a person asserting things about the riot that took place on that day, then exclaiming that "wow I had no idea who Ray Epps was, that is really weird. Huh".

Why do people do this? If you haven't bothered to do the bare minimum of research about a topic, please stick to asking questions about it or offering opinions on the stated facts, not asserting facts which are obviously incorrect.

I'm not sure I'd consider this a "conspiracy" outside of the most trivial sense of the word as the FBI, and law enforcement in general, tend to be loathe to reveal details on active investigations or even if there is an investigation going on.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=hXjLqhtnIRI

If you're the person that Biden is bragging about ordering the firing of, is this a conspiracy? It sure seems so to me.

And yet we hear over and over and over about how Trump incited a riot, yet nobody can point to the words he actually said to do so.

And who determines if you riot corruptly or uncorruptly?

Were the BLM riots over the 2020 summer corrupt or uncorrupt?

It's because the people that hate Trump seem to like Desantis. So Desantis feels like the George W. Bush/Mitt Romney/Dick Cheney's Daughter party.

I am very comfortable with it being limited to the cases where the challenge to the election involved violence. I don't think a strict ban on that leads anywhere problematic.

Where this leads is that opposing parties will enact violence on "behalf" of their opponents, thereby nullifying any ability to make election challenges.

As others have pointed out, the "fake electors" (alternate electors) were part of the mechanism by which they were trying to use the courts/legislature to get the correct/legal outcome of the election.

There's something so weird about this to me.

Trump was actively involved in discussing and planning efforts to obstruct the certification of the election.

Sure in the most absolutely tortured meaning of the word "obstruct". His claim was that the election as being presented was invalid, and he was trying to use the court/legislative system to elucidate the correct/legal outcome.

This would be like if I got a traffic ticket, showed up in court and argued that the ticket was given in error, failed, and was then charged with "obstruction" for challenging the state.

If every challenge to an election is henceforward seen as "obstruction" then where the hell does that leave us? It seems to make elections a sortof winner takes all battle where the winners take office, and the losers end up in jail.

Books are useful for children, for developing reading skills if nothing else.

Okay this is fair. Maybe a library for children's books? (I'm thinking like...5 years old and younger?)

I can't imagine how jealous I'd be as a postgrad at some university if high schools were getting more H100s than me

This is kindof the world I want. Some cool resources are available to high schools to the point that it makes other's jealous. Noboyd on earth is jealous of a high school library. Change that and make the "library" something cool/something to be proud of!

Can somebody please steelman the case for libraries at all? Certainly there was a time when writing things down on dead trees was important, and publishing a book was an important way of contributing to the collective knowledge, but that just isn't the case anymore.

The libraries should be removed from every school, certainly the people with "library science" degrees should be removed, and the space should be used for something more in line with the original intent. Every school should get a few H100s, make a more advanced computing lab, put a CNC mill in there, etc. Libraries should basically be very well funded makerspaces at this point, not shelves of useless books.

I guess I get a library as a sortof throwback to something that was needed a long time ago, but at this point books are like vinyl records. Cool, and I love them, and dream of having a massive library in my home some day, and I am a compulsive book buyer, but...not really necessary for a school. In addition to that, it seems like L I B R A R Y has become some sort of cultural importance for the left, where scary book burning or book bans has become somehow meaningful to them.

Get rid of the libraries. Replace them with materials science labs or something cool.

The paintings are also worthless unless Hunter is the one selling them.

Just absolutely deranged that a judge allowed this.

I think that Joe has an outrageously inflated sense of himself and his family. His entire career has been full of fits of compulsive lying about his academic accomplishments, his family history, his political and personal activities, and the activities of the people around him.

I think that it's both: he wanted his kid to be a successful power broker because he wanted to maintain this idea of "The Biden Name" meaning anything other than lying and corruption.

It's the reason that his grandaughter isn't allowed to use "The Biden Name" and is getting paid off with some of Hunter's paintings: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/hunter-biden-daughter-ex-stripper-receive-fathers-paintings-settlement-states

Somebody in this family thinks that there is value to their name.

I still think buying Greenland is an actually cool idea and wish we would have done it.

This is also my experience.

Not only do I find myself using the app substantially more, but spam seems to have mostly gone away, the service is fast and responsive, I don't think I've ever had an error/app crash that people talk about, and I'm really excited about the new features that they've shipped.

I've already got friends trying to pull me to twitter messenger away from facebook/signal/etc. that we're using.

It just seems like...yeah, actually, he really is doing it, and the people insisting that somehow twitter is falling apart are just coping.

Can somebody please at least link to the thread where this was supposed to go? This user is banned now (apparently) so I can’t find it in their profile. As it stands this like half of a conversation, which seems worse than if the comment had just been left along (I agree with removing it, just wish there was a link to the discussion)

Just re: the strike. This seems like it has a sort of “Bud light” quality to it. Is the quality of work coming out of holywood really so much greater than other parts of the world that it is irreplaceable? Warner brothers etc really can’t just go to a foreign country to make their TV shows and movies?

It seems like Hollywood actors, in addition to being some of the most unlikeable people on earth, are also some of the most replaceable. If they want to strike, then good for them. But also now they’re going to have to compete Europeans and Canadians. It kind of seems like the audience are the winners here.

Even if these in-laws are right, then surely a place where 99% of people go after death, can't be THAT bad.

I can never tell if people who are saying this are just being unserious, or are actually this unfamiliar with the thing that they're trying to criticize.

Hell is the absence of good. It is unpleasant be definition, if you are imagining being in a place and it not being so bad actually then you are by definition not talking about hell. There isn't a bargain to be made here where actually things aren't bad because "that's where all the cool people are" or something.

but it remains a problem

The delta between abuse within the Catholic Church and in public schools is well documented, and supports the (in my opinion obvious[1]) conclusion that your children are less likely to be abused in a Catholic school than in a secular one.

[1]: It seems like the obvious answer that a Catholic organization, which treats the family, and especially children, as the most important part of society and worthy of the most protection, would be a safe place for children. The (false) idea that Catholic priests are somehow more likely than anybody else to abuse children (in reality they are less likely) only had staying power as a meme because of how counterintuitive it seemed. "Man bites dog" and all that.

don’t bring up anyone’s hypocrisy/the church’s corruption, rampant pedophilia/the inherent idiocy in believing in god.

Dear the motte, boy is my outgroup sure boo. They are so boo, and one time they tried to enact their boo upon me, all I wanted to do was:

stay balls deep in my excellent wife/[their daugher]

Unbelievably low effort post. Reported. Please put this type of thing in the low effort culture war thread.

yofuckreddit

Or keep it there on /r/atheism.

I saw an ad for something like this recently. It seemed to be a guy who wasn’t allowed to compete at the Olympics saying he’s helping start a league that allows doping. I’ll see if I can find it but if anybody else has seen it please share the link.
