What did who tell Kid Rock?
Good for you :). I really hope and pray that someday the Catholic and Orthodox churches reunite.
Just to offer my experience:
Raised Catholic. Became an annoying internet atheist during college. Started drifting back towards it due to the culture war, really started being pulled back largely due to Jordan Petersons biblical series lectures. My sister is also a very devout Catholic and lots of discussions with her.
A lot of influence has been reading about the early church, and the role of the church in maintaining a link between the modern and ancient worlds during the dark ages. (Read: a canticle for leibowitz for a fictional sci fi dramatization of what I’m talking about).
In the time since 2016-17 when this started, I’ve gotten married and had two children.
Obviously you can guess my influences given that history. I was a non believer (and never really believed as a kid), but the approach to the church and apologetics that my wife and I share, in my opinion, does make the miraculous and supernatural claims the church makes become literally true, and that is essentially the miracle.
I've never once seen a Born Again TradCath Right Wing-Er IRL
Where have you looked?
Tell me. My mind is ready.
I hope that this improves the cost of energy by lowering it. I think that energy is foundational to society and that cheap, plentiful energy helps basically everything.
I worry that this might be too little too late. The Biden administrations attack on oil and gas, and especially their attack on Keystone XL, signals to anybody wanting to make long term investments into infrastructure that an unfriendly regime can and will simply attack and destroy it.
Consider the billions of dollars spent on Keystone XL, which were essentially made worthless with the stroke of a pen when Biden came into office.
If you are a company which may consider building a refinery, or a pipeline, or anything large like that, or if you are a bank/investor providing the money, do you pause a little more knowing the hostility and willingness to attack your infrastructure that Biden has had previously? I for sure would.
I think it’s good land leases are going up. However it’s a rational decision (in my opinion) for the extractors to sit on these leases while there is an administration that is willing and happy to openly attack you, and has publicly stated that they want to destroy you completely.
I think the way that Christians see “coming for your children” is what the trans activists are doing. That’s why it seems so bizarre to me that they are trying to claim both at the same time. “We’re coming for your children” seems like it could practically be the header text of every pride event.
(I’m paraphrasing this is not an actual quote):
“We are coming for your children, but don’t worry we aren’t going to sexually assault them, we are just going to cut off parts of their body, mutilate others, give them hormones which will irreversibly sterilize them, and convince them that you, their parents, are trying to commit genocide if you try to stop us XOXOXO”
He’s doing that to be antagonistic. He said not to say “trains” (which I don’t agree is a Reddit thing but whatever), so I stopped, but he kept using that term.
I don’t think it’s an odd request. Im asking him not to be unnecessarily antagonistic.
Here’s another example of him misquoting me, then arguing with his own misquoting: https://www.themotte.org/post/499/culture-war-roundup-for-the-week/102514?context=8#context
He’s doing this, presumable again, to be antagonistic.
(But this is way off topic sorry to anybody reading along. I does get annoying when people mischaracterize what you say)
You said not to use Reddit drama phrases, then continued doing so, presumably to be antagonistic. I asked you to stop.
This seems relatively straight forward to me.
What am I claiming I didn’t say? That seems like a bit of a silly thing to do, since the posts are all right here for anybody to read.
It doesn’t seem like you’re trying to argue in good faith here. I don’t think we’re going to get anywhere.
You can yell at me more if you want or misquote me or mischaracterize what I said or even continue being unnecessarily antagonistic, but I won’t reply to you any more in this thread.
Have a nice day.
I want to make sure I understand this, but first I’d ask you to stop using Reddit drama language like “the trains”.
There must be ground realities that we can agree on to be able have a discussion, right? Like for instance: trans people exist? If somebody claimed that the existence of trans people was an elaborate psy op and that none of them were real and they were all holograms, it would be appropriate to say “you would have to be suffering from some sort of paranoid delusion to believe this.”
Or no? The point that I’m making here is that the people claiming both that they must come for the children and you are a bigot to stop them, but also that they aren’t coming for the children and you are a bigot to suggest they are, are trying to create a sort of insane (in the technical sense) delusion in people’s minds.
Again this isn’t consensus building. This is a description of what I perceive these people to be doing.
you asking me to link to examples of my supporting points
This stuff has been well, well discussed here, hasn’t it? Are you disputing that these things are happening at all?
Did you read the rest of my post? The examples I gave of trans people “coming for your children” were:
-
Several bills passed to make states like Minnesota trans sanctuaries.
-
Work done by trans activists to get retailers like Target to prominently display trans affirming fetishes in their stores, specifically targeted towards children.
-
“Pride days” in schools
-
Phrases like “protect queer kids” and the associated paraphernalia.
How is it consensus building to cite examples that support my claim that trans people are openly targeting, coming for, and recruiting children?
I was totally with you…
Until I listened to the martyrmade episode on Epstein. The last couple of hours he spends talking about that story and it gets pretty difficult, imo, not to agree that there does seem to be something there.
I’ve said before around here: martyrmade is an unbelievable treasure of a history podcast. The episodes I’m talking about (about Jeff Epstein) take about 6 hours tracing a path from sexual abuse allegations in Ireland, to Belgium, and finally working its way through DC and the US. I highly recommend it, but also sort of caution it because it’s a bit of an info hazard. You might someday end up replying to people talking about the absurdity of pizzagage with “welllllllll actually…”
How is it not absolutely self evident that the trains are coming for the children? I feel like you would need to be almost literally insane to think otherwise.
If they’re not coming for the children, then what is the purpose of states passing bills to make themselves trans sanctuaries or whatever? Why is pride stuff being put in schools? Who was the one that made the “protect queer children” sticker I saw this morning?
The idea that any person could reasonably say, in 2023, that gender fetishists are not coming for children is absurd. They are very clearly, very well fundedly, literally putting pride gear in major retailers, coming for your children.
The outgroup that OP is booing is not my ingroup. It's just annoying to me that these sorts of blatant low-effort LLM-tier posts somehow are allowed when they are very obvious rule violations.
Does the parent comment contribute anything other than “boo outgroup $[nonsense gpt quality restatings of my outgroup is boo]”?
It's hilarious (and by that I of course mean: pathetic) that revealing things like blatantly cheating at a presidential debate means that Hilary Clinton (the cheater) is somehow the victim.
"Oh no, you've revealed what a corrupt person I am. I am the victim here!"
It's actually sortof incredible how well they framed that one to their advantage.
Are stepmoms real moms?
No. They are step-moms, which is why we have a different name for them than 'mom', which implies motherhood. Similarly, step-brothers are not your literal brothers, they are stepbrothers, which means the children of somebody unrelated to you.
West coast cities are exactly what happens when car culture is unwilling to cede any ground. Not a single wealthy boomer lives in the city core, because highways drop you in the middle of the city core anyway. All 3 of these cities are designed with meeting the needs of car based visitors more than the needs of the residents. And it shows.
Can you expand this? I've never heard somebody blame the drug/homelessness/theft/inner city problems on cars before. Is the idea that you should force people to live among the filth, because then they would be more motivated to fix it?
boomers like to drive
God I seriously wish that some of these anti-car people could just spend a month actually living in the "car free" cities that they think everybody wants so they could realize how terrible it is.
People point at some fairy tale version of a Finnish city where there's playgrounds everywhere and people are walking around drinking espressos and beers and wearing scarves and children are laughing and playing with one another in city squares.
It's not the lack of cars that is causing this unless cars is some sort of euphamism and I'm just not pol-pilled enough to understand what you guys mean when you envision a car free city. My city is a "walkable" city. From where I am sitting typing this there are a dozen coffee shops within a 5 minute walk, countless bars and restaurants, shopping, there's a train that goes literally right in front of my house, and a stop for that train a block away. There are 5 parks I can think of offhand that are within the same 5 minute walk from my house.
Guess what? I still drive EVERYWHERE I go.

I can bike, but if I bike I have to carry a 20lb chain with me to lock it, and even then I worry about the wheels being stolen, the seat being stolen, the lights being stolen, or some other set of things being stolen. ALL of this has happened to me or people I am close friends with. I have had bikes stolen that were locked up, parts stolen off of my bikes, etc.
-
I can walk, but I have to take a bizarre circuitous route that avoids: the park, the local drug store, all of the bus stops, all of the train stops, and any convenience stores which are currently being used as homeless shelters and drug injection sites. Even still I've had friends robbed or beaten up walking through my city.
-
I could take the idiotic train that our city is so proud of (and everybody who can actively avoids), and be accosted by the schizophrenic psychopaths who are using the train as a refuge from the weather.
The parks are de facto homeless encampments, meaning if I want to take my kids to play, guess where I go? 30 minutes out into the suburbs.
This idea that "boomers like cars and ruined everything by making car centric cities" is absurd and I can only assume is parroted by people who never leave their goon caves.
I think all the cool kids moved on to discord and telegram. The problem with the latter is that you can’t sign up for an anonymous account; it requires a phone number.
Telegram has giant chatrooms. It's a huge thing in the open source intelligence world right now. A ton of information about the war in Ukraine gets posted in telegram first, and then makes its way out to more normal news channels.

What were the documents that Joe had?
First of all, I absolutely love that movie. I think it works because the schtick of “Famous story but told differently” is acknowledged and core to the work.
If somebody made Lord of the Rings, but did it in a modern setting, with a diverse cast, and it took place in New York City, I think people would accept it (mostly). Similarly if you did lord of the rings, but it took place in the Congo, I think people would like that (I would).
inability to realize this vision
You’re not going to realize this vision if you’re doing ketamine and cocaine and having “polyamorous” “relationships” in your 20s
Look at the Mormons for the most extreme example. No, actually this is attainable. You just have to actually follow the rules.

I think this person is 100% trolling because everything they’ve said doesn’t mention a name, and could easily be applied to everyone
Senile old man? Biden.
People were wrong about trump and should be begging for forgiveness? TDS sufferers.
