for Russians, Ukrainian accents are indistinguishable from accent spoken by Russians in Voronezh or Krasnodar.
Somehow I doubt said accent is going to be called "Krasnodarsky" and not "Khokhlyatsky".
Shokan'ye and the soft "g" are quirks consistently associated with Ukraine in my memory.

It is reasonable to assume that collapse -> losing Crimea and a trip to Hague. However, I don't see how purely losing Crimea is supposed to bring Kremlin to Hague. Last time I checked, Kremlin is in Moscow.
The Russians also defined the newly captured territories as actual Russia. I somehow doubt reclaiming them would trigger nuclear use. The definition of "sovereign totally Russian historical territory" has depreciated as of late.
Note that the response to strikes at actual, 1991 borders Russian territory was not "nuke them".

I don't see how materialists being a little too ahead of themselves 200 years ago should discredit materialism forever and ever. Do you also consider parachutes discredited because 500 years ago people tried them and crashed?
What is your model of a free will? Is it supposed to be outside of brain function? From where I'm looking, the thought, the choice and the effect of them on the body are all very much vulnerable to external influence, and your only recourse is that they are not yet influenceable with 100% precision.

I bring this up as an example of the Blue Tribe's utter hostility to Red, that they'll openly show how much thought they put into scenarios of smugly enacting "flyover genocide."
It's not that I think something like this would work… but I wouldn't put it past them to try anyway.
Frankly I don't see how this is any worse than Reds smugly proclaiming "guess who has all the guns".

As for substrate independence, we should be thinking about truth rather than beauty. How can it be impossible, in principle, to replace individual neurons one by one with a computerized equivalent such that normal function is preserved and the patient is conscious throughout the whole operation? Do you believe that there's some advanced quantum mechanics in our heads that's integral to our identity that simply cannot be emulated with machinery, no matter how advanced our technology?
That's not the argument being made though. The argument is "a copy of my mind out on Mars in a separate body is still effectively me". That's what I disagree with.

Truly, materialism is the worst metaphysical model, except for the rest of them.
When a system explains the world outside of my brain to a greater extent than I'd ever need to predict it and act upon it, and all the others can only shrug and say "well what about the mind?", I see no reason to assume that the truth is within one of the latter systems.
Is this how Elon Musk's defenders feel when he, despite being a successful unprecedented entrepreneur and engineer and all that, is mocked and belittled by redditors for posting cringe takes on Twitter?

Why does it matter that it's isomorphic to you? There are 7 billion people as unique as you are. Of those, I would expect a non-zero number of them to have experiences and dispositions close enough to yours as to be negligible. If you don't value your continuity or your natal body, or genes, then I don't see what is there left for you other than some ephemeral idea of "thinking exactly the same" (which is over 0.01 seconds after you're copied and the copy diverges).

Depends on what leverage the one who commands them has. I assume the American officers will be doing the commanding as well, and they're close while the alleged Chinese handlers are far away. Perhaps if they all have their families hostage in China it could work.
