Oof. I didn't know that re: character creation. I leveled up Pistol because the mini-crossbow counts as a pistol. And I was gonna do soo much non-lethal tranq darting l. Until I realized that the game provides very few tranq darts in most maps. And having the enemies running around shooting at you until the poison builds up sufficiently is pretty messy. So the baton became my main tool.

Also if you tranq someone out, they're often considered "dead" with a different label. I knocked everyone out in Castle Clinton in one playthrough, and had the "I cleaned the place out" conversation in the armory, where Sam Carter gets cross with you for using excessive force.

Anesthesia is no trivial matter. The LD50 is only a median measure and you never know who's at work today with massive sleep debt, a bad hangover, and a congenital heart condition.

Or an asymptomatic Grey Death infection. You never really see anyone (except some Underclass People) with symptoms in the game, despite the engineered, widespread virus being the whole reason why the conspirators can almost succeed in taking over the world.

Really? I used lots of tranqs in that mission and Carter was happy with me! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I was wondering if he didn't throw a grenade afterwards...

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
