So I recently had a chance to sample the Fried Apple Pie that McDonald's brought back to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. I am old enough to have been around when the original was a Thing, though I happened to prefer the fried cherry pie. That said, my verdict is that it was a faithful reproduction of the original, right down to the box art, and the only difference that I noted was that I seemed to remember the pies coming in sleeves instead of boxes BITD, and that could well be a confabulation on my part.

I have never been so thrilled to burn the roof of my mouth in my entire life--the apple pie delivered that part of the experience as well! 10/10, need to repeat while I still can. If you're thinking about giving it a shot, just do it!

27 years ago I burned my whole tongue with a fried cherry pie. And it definitely came in a cardboard sleeve.

That or a just regular paper sleeve.

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
