Video Game thread

I'm trying to setup a multiplayer stardew valley game to play with my 5 and 7 year old. Possibly convince the wife to join too, but that is unlikely.

Depending on personality of 5 year old, some can be randomly more bothered by the mines than similar environments in other games (like minecraft)- Note that clearing the mines floor 120 buffs all mines enemies permanently. Meanwhile, defense is pretty much a flat damage reduction. The monster eradication goal for killing crabs gives you a crabshell ring that provides 5 defense, characters can wear 2 rings, just need to buy more from guild, plus firewalker or space boots. If you don't hit 120, a defense of 14 will make kids pretty much invulnerable against the weakest enemies and still very sturdy against the strongest in mines.

I imagine my 7 year old will be terrified of the mines and my 5 year old will be upset if I dont let her go in them and fight enemies

Exactly. 7 year old needs the invulnerability, 5 year old needs a surprisingly explicit description of trench foot (or maybe WWI in general) that's why her character needs space boots.

haha its just their personalities. My 7 year old refuses to watch basically all movies. Any amount of drama is too much. 5 year old loves super hero stuff, spiderman especially and the concept of "beating up" bad guys.

I've played all the way through stardew valley two or three times. I'll be their guide, but I want to see how much they develop and figure things out on their own. I want to enable them to make whatever is possible in the game, while just playing a supporting role. Being their wikipedia and tutorial of sorts.

If they don't figure out aspects of the game, I plan to just play them quietly until they notice.

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
