The Wednesday Wellness threads are meant to encourage users to ask for and provide advice and motivation to improve their lives. It isn't intended as a 'containment thread' and any content which could go here could instead be posted in its own thread. You could post:
-
Requests for advice and / or encouragement. On basically any topic and for any scale of problem.
-
Updates to let us know how you are doing. This provides valuable feedback on past advice / encouragement and will hopefully make people feel a little more motivated to follow through. If you want to be reminded to post your update, see the post titled 'update reminders', below.
-
Advice. This can be in response to a request for advice or just something that you think could be generally useful for many people here.
-
Encouragement. Probably best directed at specific users, but if you feel like just encouraging people in general I don't think anyone is going to object. I don't think I really need to say this, but just to be clear; encouragement should have a generally positive tone and not shame people (if people feel that shame might be an effective tool for motivating people, please discuss this so we can form a group consensus on how to use it rather than just trying it).

You know, I think people really undersell how much stepping on a dirty rusty nail sticking out of a board in the woods sucks.
First there is the moment of panic after the first moments of pain. You just pray what you felt was "pressure" as Dentist might say, and that the skin isn't broken. You rip off your shoe and sock and your heart sinks into your colon when you see blood. Actually kind of a lot of blood.
So off to the ER for a tetatnus booster and antibiotics to fight the infection you are 100% going to get. ER doesn't want to at first because some illegal probably used your social and the system thinks you got like 8 different shots, including a tetanus booster back in April. They acquiesce, but it's fucking weird. Waste a whole ass Sunday you had to catch up on the honey-do list that grows and embitters faster than you can keep up.
You don't sleep at all because the infection is setting in and throbbing all night long. Monday afternoon all your toes are swollen and red. You are two doses into your antibiotic course. Apparently you give it 48 to 72 hours to see how it goes.
And that's the story so far. Really do not recommend it.
Happened to me once but didn't get infected. Never had an injury go bad when barefoot walking either. Got lucky so far I guess.
Get well soon!
