Second: Someone reading this warning will probably wonder whether this means that gooning material is fair game for the CW thread. It is not. This is a discussion forum for testing shady thinking, not for sharing gooning material. You can talk about the CW, but not wage CW; you can talk about the sociocultural development of gooning (ugh, if you must) but this is not the place to goon.

As in, the one about "lack of redeeming value", or just the one about "I know it when I see it"?

Essentially, I'm asking whether you're declaring this to be the kiddy pool (I was kinda under the impression it wasn't, given the 18+ tag exists), or just forbidding random horny drops. ('Cause, y'know, people's sexual preferences do get questioned occasionally in CW-relevant contexts.)

True, but I don't think anything is changing in this instance. We're just clarifying a question of permissible practice on a somewhat novel edge case.

I think you misunderstood both my comments here. The change I was referring to was the cumulative change since 2019, of which this particular clarification is just a minor part. The "RIP TheMotte" was a tongue-in-cheek way of pointing out this "clarification" resolves an ambiguity in a direction that makes the forum less personally appealing. Not because it is a major change, but because it is indicative of the direction the wind is blowing. Which to be clear I'm not complaining about--as I said, you can't please everyone.

IIRC this situation involves a multi month long pattern of content posting involving sexual assault and child abuse...in the fun thread.

You understand this has involved posting things like court cases about childhood sex abuse? I have a wicked sense of gallows humor and I'm near impossible to offend, and I'm not offended here, it's just not fun or funny, which is the purpose of the FUN thread.

This material is not tamer than what is in Hollywood, unless you mean like Seven, but that is not a fun movie. Some 17 year old in a 90s comedy having sex with a friend's mom and it being played for laughs is not on the same axis.

Even if you were to find an apples to apples comparison (which I don't think you can) a real person being taken advantage of is a different thing entirely.

Edit: OMG I just checked, one of the court cases involved a man having sexual interactions with his 3 year old and 18 month old. There's zero chance you can find anything in Hollywood like that OMG.

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
