This thread is for anyone working on personal projects to share their progress, and hold themselves somewhat accountable to a group of peers.

Post your project, your progress from last week, and what you hope to accomplish this week.

If you want to be pinged with a reminder asking about your project, let me know, and I'll harass you each week until you cancel the service.

I probably have full blown AI psychosis at this point but decided to go hard on personal digital security.

I run self hosted Immich, a Google Photos alternative. But it requires docker and is kind of bloated on the server side. So I'm having a bot rewrite it in Rust and I'm planning to lock it down hard in the most fascist systemd unit possible. Uses 1/10th the RAM so far.

The Emudhra CA private key is 4 thing made me wonder about my IoT devices being vulnerable to upstream MitM attacks so I'm installing a custom nft tap on my router to intercept and check outbound TLS.

I have two different home lighting systems. Wrote a daemon that drives them and also an app for my phone that has a unified dashboard for all of the lights. Home Assistant is bloat.

Replaced a WordPress site with a Rust version that runs on bare metal, no OS. Can't trust anything;

I currently use a Telegram bot to message me anything interesting about the household but rolled out a phone app that basically stays always on and connected so my servers can push to them directly. No need to rely on Google Firebase Push crap or Telegram.

Also decided to integrate globally shared copy/paste for all of my devices. Basically copy/paste works between Mac, Linux and Android now. With an option to share with the household common clipboard.

Used Claude to hack my fridge because I found out it has fucking Wi-Fi and I needed to see if it was actually still joined to something (yes, searching the previous owner's network) and figured out how to shut the WiFi off entirely.

Might see if I can leverage that Emudhra CA thing to MitM attack my IoT devices myself, perhaps I can intercept and take over the functions they expect a C&C thing in the cloud to be providing.

Can’t wait to see a refrigerator get ransomed by a threat actor who forcibly locks it and turns off the electricity, letting your food expire unless you pay X. It’s like Jigsaw coming directly to your kitchen. Whoever thought everything needed Wi-Fi needs to be cast off on an island and left to die.
