The Wednesday Wellness threads are meant to encourage users to ask for and provide advice and motivation to improve their lives. It isn't intended as a 'containment thread' and any content which could go here could instead be posted in its own thread. You could post:
-
Requests for advice and / or encouragement. On basically any topic and for any scale of problem.
-
Updates to let us know how you are doing. This provides valuable feedback on past advice / encouragement and will hopefully make people feel a little more motivated to follow through. If you want to be reminded to post your update, see the post titled 'update reminders', below.
-
Advice. This can be in response to a request for advice or just something that you think could be generally useful for many people here.
-
Encouragement. Probably best directed at specific users, but if you feel like just encouraging people in general I don't think anyone is going to object. I don't think I really need to say this, but just to be clear; encouragement should have a generally positive tone and not shame people (if people feel that shame might be an effective tool for motivating people, please discuss this so we can form a group consensus on how to use it rather than just trying it).

Coffee Haters Club
Today's roast is Guatemala Antigua Pulcal Inteligente, several years aged. It was a smaller batch, weighing in at 294 grams pre-roast, so it won't be lasting long and in fact, the several cups that I have had thus far already put me about halfway through it, so I'll be roasting again later this week. Guatemalan coffees tend to be over-represented for me both because Sweet Maria's does good work in Guatemala but also because their climate diversity leads to a richer than normal variety of beans. Additionally, Pulcal Inteligente has been good stuff IME, so I knew I'd be in for a nice cuppa. Anyway, I pulled this one right as it was passing the city mark, at about 410 degrees, and I got a bright, slightly sweet cup with frequent hints of this note or that, spicy, floral, sometimes nutty, but nothing consistently standing out, like it was a will o' the wisp, flavor wise, leading me in all different directions but not totally tangible. I checked the cupping notes today and they read: brown sugar, hints of herbal tea in light roasts, apple at wider roast ranges, a balanced cup, enough top-note complexity to make it a highlight coffee. Outside of the apple, which I didn't really get, I'd have to agree, that's pretty much it.
What's your roasting gear? Sorry if you've mentioned it before. Dabbled with a popcorn maker and gave up after a while
Right now I'm using an Aillio Bullet, and it's probably the last roaster I'll ever own. A popcorn maker is a great place to start, and my first roaster was actually a Fresh Roast, which is what I recommend for most folks if they're ready to spend a few hundred on a roaster.
