I guess this period also coincides with the decline of the latchkey kids phenomenon and the gradual de-normalization of what we would call today free-range parenting. On a different note, the notion that street gang membership and the popularity of dangerous hobbies has somehow declined in the same time period is suspicious.

I'm no social scientist but I'd point out that this was the era of so-called latchkey kids which is a phenomenon that has largely disappeared since then but used to be the norm among GenX teenagers. This surely appears to contradict the thesis of some researchers that "the steady historical contraction of children's and teenagers' freedom to roam, play, and explore independently without adult supervision contributed to rising alienation and mental health strain" (according to Google AI). Admittedly I'm at a bit of a loss regarding this but I also assume that the environment where latchkey kids were forced to learn autonomy was also a stressful one.
I'm also guessing that lead poisoning and illegal drug proliferation also played a role.

As far as I know, those 'hundreds of bombs' were actually 8 standard propane tanks bought from a store. It appears that they, being more or less average teenagers except for their murderous urges, just assumed that detonating those is a rather easy thing to do when in reality such tanks are manufactured with safe usage in mind for heating purposes. Are you referring to the pipe bombs they made earlier but did not eventually bring with them? I think those are only marginally useful.

What I was referring to is that moderate Red Tribers used to support a normie-friendly tendency of 'compassionate conservatism' coupled with a sort of watered-down neoconservatism that allows average Joes to strut around as militaristic tough guys and is based on the notion that Middle Eastern wars can actually be cakewalks. When this nonsense fell apart, moderate Blue Tribers seemingly got the idea to promote a sort of more or less fake civic nationalism intended to 'heal the scars of a racist past' and improve relations between white and black citizens etc. This also fell through so everyone was disappointed in the end, which is fertile ground for political polarization.

Back in the Stalinist era the local Hungarian puppet ruler was someone who was captured earlier as an underground Soviet agent and spent 15 years in a capitalist prison (which rather ironically spared him from the 1937 purge that'd have surely taken him as well otherwise). In a biography of another politician written by an author who's otherwise sympathetic to Communist ideology he (the author) made the offhand observation about this man (the prisoner) that is essentially similar, namely that men who've been imprisoned for a lengthy period, even if we assume that they were victims of unjust political persecution and the conditions weren't that bad, should not fill high political positions. The long-term trauma can never be undone and will always cloud his judgment.

But decades since the term was coined, it's become corrupted from "the ostensibly objective and disinterested (but implicitly male and heterosexual) camera perspective used in Western movies and TV shows" to "something about the way men look at women, which is bad".
I'm pretty sure there was a mainstream journo somewhere who is responsible for first popularizing the dumbed-down interpretation.

I'd argue that such organizations fulfill a role in current society that is at least not insignificant for the powers that be.
Any ruling regime that has hegemonic control over public discourse has an evident interest in controlling and limiting the public dissemination of information because their control over society and its consensus depends on it. Its opponents and dissidents, on the other hand, are evidently interested in the opposite, and the simple social reality is that spreading and disseminating subversive and heretical information is always easier than suppressing and eradicating it. Hence the emergence of the centrist liberal narrative about the grave danger posed by 'fake news' and the corresponding need to enact 'fact-checking'. It also makes sense for the simple reason that mainstream liberal media has nothing to fear from 'fact-checkers' even if those were dissidents and heretics; after all, this media does not function by spreading lies and fabrications but by simply not reporting uncomfortable facts and by spinning information that is factually true according to their hegemonic ideology. In other words, there are no facts to check there.
The ultimate aim of 'fact-checking' is of course to eventually justify the cancellation, censorship and suppression of platforms accused of spreading 'fake news'.

In plain English I think "to actively search for situations where they can get laid" in this context means that you as a father and husband are supposed to socialize with other couples of your age and social status with children that are of the same age and of the opposite sex as yours. Isn't that just a part of normal family life?
I think the original claim is that it's the extent of social and cultural upheaval and dislocation between 1950 and 1990 that was stressful.
