Thanks, that's super helpful.

I imagine I will stick to the oral version if I do take the plunge. Taking a pill is easier than explaining to my girlfriend why I'm shooting up once a week. Looks like the price from Indiamart is about half what I would pay from a UK supplier.

I'd love to know more. How do you handle reconstituting and injecting it? What's your weight loss been like? Any other effects?

I assume that the website you're getting it from is a compounding pharmacy.

I'm not huge but I could stand to lose 10kg or so, and if I can take a weekly shot to make it happen, I would definitely consider it. Only the price has kept me from trying it so far.

Monday Morning Podcast by Bill Burr

Thanks, I'll give it a listen.

Any particular episodes you'd recommend? With 12 years of episodes I'm not sure where to start.

I recently finished Macnamara's Folly too. I appreciated that it was written by an ordinary soldier, as opposed to an academic or policy wonk.

Can you explain the joke to me? Are they the same guy or something?

I wouldn't say it's true that 'lifting has the benefits as well'. Sure, you can make your resistance workout intense enough that you get indirect cardio, and therefore get (a very small amount of) the benefits of cardio. But if you're wanting to maximise growth, then a slower workout with longer rest periods is much better.

Optimising each workout for it's goal (bigger muscles or taxing the cardiovascular system) is better than doing a faster resistance session which is worse for both goals.

'White is the minimum number of ethnic groups needed to do racial oppression' does not seem like it would pass the ideological Turing test, at all.

How about 'white' means 'assimilated into Anglo-American culture'?

I tried it for a few months. It gave me more energy but also insomnia, to the extent that I had to stop using it.

This may be an annoyingly vague question, but is there any consensus in the running/fitness world as to what the 'minimum viable distance' per week for running is, in terms of improved mood, better sleep and other health benefits?

At the moment I'm managing to fit in around 3km on a treadmill 2-3 times per week after my resistance workout, and I'm wondering if this is enough.

This article seems to have details about going about it.

I wouldn't put too much stake on 'the realities of CICO'. No matter how much the public hears 'calories in, calories out' the obesity epidemic continues unabated. If it was as simple as choosing to eat less, we'd see far fewer fat people than we do. Nobody wants to be fat.

Maybe your wife will be able to reverse her expanding waistline, but if she does, it might be because she's started taking ozempic rather than through sheer force of will. Hoping that the latter will work has a good chance of disappointing both of you.

Just finished Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness but I think I may have hit the limits of my audiobook comprehension because I was left thinking "wait, when does stuff start happening?". Maybe it's just not that type of book, there have been enough potent lines that it may be a book you just have to enjoy the language of.

Were you listening to the Kenneth Branagh version? I think his reading is amazing but I haven't heard any others.

When I say that women civilise men, I mean within marriages. My expectation is that a higher female to male ratio would lead to fewer marriages as more men play the field as they do at college campuses with similarly lopsided ratios.

For kids, O Little Town of Bethlehem is a good one.

I personally like In the Bleak Midwinter, but it is a bit...bleak.

I started giving this high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet a go. I started losing weight almost immediately, but found myself feeling anxious/depressed after a couple of weeks (I think from lack of fat). At the moment I'm trying to up my fat intake but keep BCAAs (specifically isoleucine and valine) low to see if I can keep losing the weight.

That's true, but that was confounded by their gigantic age gap. Plus, I can't imagine the average person thinking better of a prostitute version of Anna who just slept with him for pay.

Who's 'us' in that statement? Me or her? Or both?

I'll second this. CI works better than traditional study, it's less taxing than traditional study, and it's much more flexible to do day to day.

I've been doing Spanish for a couple of months, but I wish I'd started a year earlier. At my current rate, I can potentially get to native-level in two years so I'd already be halfway there.

  • Extroversion: 95
  • Emotional stability: 81
  • Agreeableness: 42
  • Conscientiousness: 76
  • Intellect/Imagination: 18

So, extroverted and stubborn? Sounds about right actually.

Whenever I click on the janitor duty link, it takes me to a page with a 505 error. I'm using Chrome on Android.

One of the counter intuitive things about this method is that it's subconscious. You don't need to actively try to remember anything, only to understand the meaning of what's being said. Your brain then builds a model of the language in the background.

I had some success with weighted pull ups a few years ago. Once I went back to regular pull ups, I could do a few more than before

I agree with everything you've said, except the claim that we've never received an alien signal. I'd say the wow signal is most likely a signal from an alien radio telescope, although obviously we cannot have definitive proof.

The actual policy we're discussing is an immigration policy that favours people who are similar to the existing (often native) ethnic group. In other words, a political manifestation of the preference for living near people who look like you.

And more or less everyone, from the immigrants themselves to the most full-throated supporters of multiracialism and immigration does prefer to live among people like themselves.

As far as I can tell, the only sin of the people you call racist is that they want more people to be able to act on the revealed preferences that we all share.

I had a lot of success with this routine. I do it once a day in the morning but you can do it more than that.
