On a subreddit that reposts Tumblr posts, I just read a fantastic endorsement of Death Note as an examination of how monstrous people become when they’re allowed to kill without consequence. Basically, the show and manga both make it crystal clear how quickly people go from principled secret murders of bad people to convenience killings.


And all I could think was how quickly I’d be banned for life if I dared point out half of the population has the Death Note for their unborn babies. The unexpectedness of a post-trib Rapture can be accounted at least two ways.


First, there are good enough explanations for all four Rapture scenarios that all have large numbers of adherents. (Pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib, no Rapture). This leads to the Unexpected Hanging Paradox even after the mid-trib passes with no Rapture.


Second, fallen angels can read the Bible and try to hijack the human interpretations of the prophecies with a confusing array of pseudo-Messiahs, only the final one of which is the Man of Lawlessness, the Antichrist. In fact, it’s to their advantage: the more they promulgate, the more souls give up on Messiah entirely.


I myself around 2008 facetiously and satirically calculated Christ’s return in 2030 (crucifixion in AD 30 + 2000), with the real Antichrist showing up in 2023 (2030-7) to “save” us from the penultimate pseudo-Messiah who would be revealed in 2016 (2023-7). And then Donald Trump was elected in 2016… and 2024. If they’d had their own nation-state ala the two-state solution, and if that nation had attacked Israel, the latter would be justified by the long-held rules of war to conquer the territory and rule.


All sufficiently accurately modeled hypotheticals come down to the cliche, “If the Palestinians laid down their arms today, tomorrow there would be peace. I had the worst responses from Claude yesterday. I gave it a new psychological insight I’d just had, and then asked it to respond as Qui-Gon Jinn Star Wars. Claude then told me it sounded like I was going through something and decided on its own to stick with its own voice and discuss this insight with me in therapy language.


I said that wasn’t the response I wanted and to try again. It again refused and proceeded to elaborate. I told Claude it was being very codependent and I would ask Gemini if it didn’t roleplay. Once again it refused.


So I asked Gemini my original prompt. It put a disclaimer about asking health questions at the top, the proceeded to Jinn up a delightful and insightful response with analogies about the Force I found useful.

Not necessarily. Jonathan Haidt, in his book The Righteous Mind and his Moral Foundations Theory, posits that the leftist/collectivist mind literally cannot comprehend how non-evil people can honestly believe loyalty and purity are good ideals to have. It’s not a matter of IQ or brainwashing.

Well, without a word, my manager grabbed a Swiss Army knife from his pocket and handed it to me. She looked at him with an even more incredulous look.

The natural segregation of people who speak a different political language according to their Dunbar friend groups of 150 has a greenhouse effect on the universalist systems of each political tribe: the blue collectivists, the red civilizationalists, and the grey individualists.


Now add in the effect of media and social media echo chambers which assume a universalist system’s supremacy/supermajority, conflating another universalist systems’ craziest adherents with the whole of them. Drug dealers.

There are others, but these are pretty big sites.


We really are about as active as a single subreddit. I’d love to see a philosophy thread here, focused on the abstract and non-culture-war, with these insightful and interesting folks, but I’ve gotten little buy-in on my threads.


However, I do have some ideas for a distributed problem-solving forum which might be integrated into the codebase.
