I first listened to A Grand Don't Come for Free by The Streets a while back, but it never made it onto my regular rotation due to how heavy it is. Listened to Original Pirate Material the other day and like it a lot. The beats are extremely clean and his lyrics are dense and interwoven.

Also listened to Overmono's new album, but I have to agree with the general sentiment that it's just not in the same ballpark as Good Lies.

Can't get around b, but you can at least hold most of your funds in a state-tax-advantaged fund like TTTXX/GABXX/SGOV/USFR (or a state-specific fund if it exists). You can put the remainder in a HYSA which will not be tax efficient but at least supports ACH transfers. You could also use a vanguard brokerage account with VMFXX as the settlement fund. You can do something similar with SPAXX at fidelity but you lose around 20 bp ATY due to their higher expense ratio. If you want to stay at ML, then buy TTTXX or a tras

Another approach is to set up an M1 account with a few grand in the settlement account and the rest set to smart transfer to USFR/SGOV. You can keep a larger percent of your balance in ETFs compared to the above strategy. Downside is that M1 will charge you a $3/mo fee if you even go below $10k, and M1 may go under at some point and it may take a while for you to access your funds.

Aside from M1, no one offers an automatic investment service because everyone wants to make money off your otherwise-fallow cash.

League is the better sport to watch, as in union so much of the action happens underfoot.

https://noyb.eu/en/us-supreme-court-just-blew-eu-us-data-transfers

On Monday, the US Supreme Court decided in Trump v. Slaughter that the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) may not be independent anymore. Since 2000, the EU has relied on the “independent” FTC as the enforcer of EU-US deals on personal data. According to EU treaty law, such oversight must be independent. In the current EU-US deal, the European Commission relies on the independent FTC 259 (!) times. Max Schrems: “Given that there are no independent authorities in the US anymore, we call on the European Commission to orderly withdraw the adequacy decision on the US.”

Is this a legitimate concern? I'm not a lawyer, but as I understand it, something must be independent from a specific thing. Both of the citations for an "EU requirement for an independent DPA" just state that "Compliance with these rules shall be subject to control by an independent authority," which does not state explicitly what the independence should be from.

Ah, but the best part about tags is how low-effort they are ;)

Too bad it doesn't link back to the tagged post. Very useful for providing proof that someone did indeed come out as gay in the patch notes thread seven years ago.

Lifting is one of the safest ways to be active

A 2024 review by Tung et al examined 17 studies on injury rates in both powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting and found that powerlifting has an injury rate of just 1 to 4.4 injuries per 1,000 hours of training, significantly lower than popular sports like soccer (around 15 injuries per 1,000 hours). Even more importantly, most injuries reported were minor injuries like muscle strains, overuse issues, joint sprains, etc.

Bodybuilding is even safer [citation needed since I can't be bothered but you can look it up].

Well now we're all going to have to run 50ks since that's the next round number.

Tubular Bells, Tubular Bells II

deconstruction of the meandering prog song?

Many people in this thread are posting good-looking anime with stylish art. I am convinced the art in Flowers of Evil was specifically designed to match the plot and characters by being ugly and banal.

Another case of nominative determinism?

Thomas L. "Tom" Golden was a miner from Georgia, United States, who was one of the earliest prospectors in present-day Jefferson County, Colorado. Golden arrived in the then-Kansas Territory in 1858 around the beginning of the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. He later partnered with George A. Jackson, a native of Glasgow, Missouri who discovered gold at the confluence of Chicago Creek and Clear Creek on January 7, 1859

But it also seems entirely possible to me that he changed his name upon assuming his occupation.

Procrastinating

Sounds a lot like pre-br fortnite.

K-12 education costs about $11,800 [per year] per child

I thought that seemed super inexpensive

For those of us who have forgotten the plot

Long story short: The Birmingham City Council employed (employed) garbagemen, roadworkers, and grave diggers, who naturally were mostly men. They also employ cooks, cleaners, and caregivers for the elderly; these are mostly women.

At some point someone noticed that the former set of workers tended to earn more than the latter. A lawsuit was launched which argued that this was obvious sexism and a violation of the Equality Act since, in aggregate, male employees were getting paid more than female employees. The lawsuit succeeded, which spawned countless followup lawsuits. Any woman working in a job which paid less than a typically-male job was suddenly able to sue for damages, and consequently the Council has paid out over a billion pounds in equal pay compensation. The Council estimates that it is likely to have to pay an additional 800 million or so pounds before the thing has run its course.

Naturally, they also had to fix the problem, and so slashed the pay of garbagemen, road workers, grave diggers, and so on to match the female average. (Raising female pay to the male level would have been untenable before paying out >£1B, and certainly isn't possible now, as they're already basically bankrupted.) Unfortunately, it seems that people aren't interested in doing those jobs for so much less pay, and have declined to continue.

Someone made a big spreadsheet that compares MMFs/HYSAs/ETFs. You can put in your tax bracket and compare ATY.

There's a big difference between being thin by choice, and being thin because of malnourishment. This says much more about nutrition than beauty standards.

It's actually Adm/Dip/Mil

Just do something to mix up the intensity. Any program where you go from lighter to heavier over time and then back off will work. The main problem with SL5x5 (and other linear programs) is that you never back off. But it works great as long as you can keep up.

IB does proof by induction in high school.

Rust is completely unsuited for systems-level programming. It was designed to build web browsers, and it's great at that. But it simply does not have the ability to properly manage memory, and all its idioms encourage wasteful allocations and superfluous copies.

The addition of rust to Linux was done by entriests, and will degrade the quality and readability of code. (Monolithic) kernels should be written in a single language.

and when someone talks about modern celebrity culture, you can talk about how everything really went downhill after Fatty Arbuckle was fingered for raping a girl to death.

Arbuckle was the defendant in three widely publicized trials between November 1921 and April 1922 for the rape and manslaughter of actress Virginia Rappe. Rappe had fallen ill at a party hosted by Arbuckle at San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel in September 1921, and died four days later. A friend of Rappe accused Arbuckle of raping and accidentally killing her. The first two trials resulted in hung juries, but the third trial acquitted Arbuckle. The third jury took the unusual step of giving Arbuckle a written statement of apology for his treatment by the justice system.

Talk about nominative determinism. But also what an ordeal.

Acquittal is not enough for Roscoe Arbuckle. We feel that a great injustice has been done him. We feel also that it was only our plain duty to give him this exoneration, under the evidence, for there was not the slightest proof adduced to connect him in any way with the commission of a crime. He was manly throughout the case and told a straightforward story on the witness stand, which we all believed. The happening at the hotel was an unfortunate affair for which Arbuckle, so the evidence shows, was in no way responsible. We wish him success and hope that the American people will take the judgment of fourteen men and woman who have sat listening for thirty-one days to evidence, that Roscoe Arbuckle is entirely innocent and free from all blame.
