I can get thoughtless good faith responses from reddit or Facebook or a million billion other places.

Your actions here, simply put, come across like you were setting out to pick on people from the beginning.

Really? Which ones? The action where I mentioned being a fan of two of the posters who misunderstood? The action where I said I don't think people are actually less intelligent, but behaving less intelligently? The action where I said the problem is people are retreating from their humanity out of fear and complacency? Or is it just the action in the op where I impugned people's intelligence?

I genuinely can't see it. I expected people to be upset with me, but I didn't expect this level of upset, with cjets mantra of mod vengeance and so on - it genuinely looks to me like narcissistic injury (as in identity injuring, not implying narcissism). The conflict I was expecting was for people to bring up examples of times I have been guilty of using semantics and passive aggression to avoid actually engaging, because they absolutely exist. Is any critical comment a gotcha now? Can we not just say "yeah that was dumb, we need to get our act together" Not to mention if I brought it up without an example it would have been immediately dismissed as a strawman.

I haven't even heard of It's Such A Beautiful Day, but you have definitely piqued my interest so I will check it out tonight. But you should definitely watch or read fight club man, it has insights into some of the things you have talked about in previous posts that I think you would appreciate even if you disagree with the conclusions.

Do you remember the 2016 election? Were you politically active for it? My gut says no, since you mention the mid terms like they tell us anything, but I also get the impression you were just trying to be patronising so I thought I'd ask. How do you think the fact that democrats need more voters and republicans need less voters plays into the situation?

The aaqc system is tied to the report system I think, so I assume most of my best posts are captured. But reporting wasn't the appropriate response to my $20 chickens joke, dying inside was.

Fffffffffffffff

I wrote a lot of truly excellent posts that are now gone, and that hits hard, but I just want my joke about buying chickens for $20 back. And I know that wasn't captured by the aaqc system because none of you motherfuckers are sophisticated enough to appreciate my genius.

I don't understand, what does that mean for sports media?

They are, yes. As are celebrities. Both are considered lucky and not deserving their success by the envious. I think whether they play football or superheroes is just a distraction.

I used Lockean/Millian liberalism to keep it separate from liberal as progressive and Liberal as conservative, not to suggest Locke or Mill considered it a meta-ideology. As far as I'm aware that's all me baby. But I do believe they'd both be on board with it once I explained it to them, I arrived at it after reading On Liberty and the Letters of Toleration back to back.

Yeah man, no argument here - I was actually trying to build on what you were saying, not refute it. Just by engaging in the voting process people endorse it and implicitly accept that framing. When they are really against it I think they'll give up on the electoral process entirely.

Yeah I don't buy it either really, I mostly made it as an alternative because the obvious interpretation annoys me. That's a really good point about his predicament though, because that's such a huge part of the problem. And yeah, he can't explain anything, because he made himself not worth listening to - the jester.

What did you think of Dougie? Good lord I was pissed we didn't get to find out what happened with his wife. I mean you can piece it together, but it should have been resolved with more than that last scene of his, brilliant though it was. Did you catch the drone operator's bewildered smile while Dougie broke down? I have never hated a character on tv so much and yet also desperately wished to give them a hug. And speaking of hanging threads, what was Borat's manager doing in Abshir's house?

I thought it was incredible. Benny Safdie was phenomenal in it. Not entertaining in the HGTV sense, but definitely gripping television, and insightful well beyond the mockery of pmcs. The last episode was a bit on the nose though, a crazy upside down world where he isn't with whit and she didn't even have to tell him, just like he said.

My alternative hypothesis for the end, if you assume Asher actually did become woke, properly woke, the way Whitney could never, is that the weight of sin is the only thing that was holding him to the Earth.

I need to find a poet to immortalise this sequence of events. Brava!

Yeah, it kind of looks like that's who you meant too.

Well I wish they would, the cool forums are going to make fun of us if they read this thread and then they won't invite us to parties.

I would be on board with this if we weren't talking about illegal, undocumented, non-citizens. I would actually be ok with indentured servitude if it was between consenting adults. But the system as it stands seems almost designed to be abused.

What do you mean by as it's typically used? The thing that annoys me the most about hbd is that I'm never sure if the person mentioning it thinks something obvious like 'genes impact outcome' or something idiotic like 'genes determine outcome'.

It does, but I worry that that's why mainstream Christianity has gone so astray and is currently falling apart. We made a measure a target. Basically I'm with hlynka, we need to abolish the victimhood narrative, not rework it - and while there might be versions of Christianity which support the victimhood narrative, they are flawed imo compared to our borderer shtick of personal responsibility and finding meaning in helping others.

Just fyi we do have spoiler tags, you put two pipes in front of and following what you want to say

like this

Edit: now if only I could get code blocks working.

Awesome, thanks for this - a lot of it is info I'd sussed out already, but looking for that study sent me down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and I emerged in a sea of insanity. Taking on your post, I bought an Electrolux with carbon filtering, so even if it doesn't help my allergies it will at least help my place smell nicer.

Do air purifiers really help allergies?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but it's spring in Queensland, which means I have done what I do every spring since moving to my townhouse - spend months trying to figure out an effective solution to my allergies before giving up and just keeping the house shut up when I'm at home. Generally this means liberal use of air conditioning, but over the past week I have been noticing that my sinuses are getting stuffed up when the ac is on. I've cleaned the filters, but it doesn't seem to have fixed anything.

But Queensland summers really only tolerate either liberal use of ac or maximum air flow through the house, so I thought maybe an air purifier might help. But I've never thought about them before - I used to smoke 40 cigarettes a day - and everyone I know thinks they are a scam, including my friend who is a doctor, who said the only study he'd seen had air purifiers exacerbating allergy issues for almost as many people as it helped.

I asked him to send me the study, but that was a week ago and I am now over feeling run down and congested and like someone is pushing a needle behind my left eye, so what do you guys think? Get an air purifier or burn my neighbours' gardens to the ground?

Anyone can have a psychotic break at any age, no prior history is necessary you just have to believe in yourself! the only prerequisite is a prolonged bout of extreme psychological disruption. Being completely alone doesn't seem too disruptive if you do it for a couple of days or even a week, but two weeks in its a whole different ball game. Not because humans are social creatures (although that is true) but because it is so radically different from the modern experience, where even in rural areas or if you stay in your home all day you can still hear and maybe see your neighbours, cars on the street, the postman and the like. What is the longest you have spent in total isolation?

And yeah man, if I wanted to say something positive about the hock it's that you've put a lot of thought into it. I assume you have figured out exactly what you'll need to survive, plus contingencies. And you're under thirty and in decent shape (and although I can't recall you saying so I assume you have some mountain climbing experience because it would be too insane if you didn't) so while I'm sure it will be challenging, it sounds feasible. If you convinced a friend to go with you I'd be on board.

One might as well ask why most US conservatives who support small government, social conservatism, and armed resistance to an oppressive state here in the US also support sending a bunch of my tax money to Israel's military-intelligence complex to help it fight against a rag-tag band of socially conservative resistance fighters who are using their guns to fight government oppression.

That's a good question too, why not ask it as well? And why on earth are you trying to lowest common denominator this? Holding people to the standard of average political discourse, defending emotional reasoning because it's really easy and requires no thought, boiling everything down to preferences and then giving up. "Hey, even on the motte people have shitty arguments sometimes, so may as well give in to your basest impulses and go who, whom like everyone else".

If you find yourself lowering your standards to rationalise your ideological bedfellows behaviour, doesn't that imply they aren't really your bedfellows on this issue? You don't have to become conservative instead, just hold yourself to the standards I know you prefer deep down (because your post is full of reluctant resignation.) It's the only way to raise the bar again.

Yeah, I will move on to conversations with honest interlocutors. Or at least ones that aren't still trying to twist my arguments after I've called them out about it. For the record though judging randos is the entire point of the covid analogy, your inability to do it - especially once you were told how it works - strengthens my argument more than any engagement would have.

I really don't think defending pedophiles is a good way to avoid being perceived as causing societal problems. But even if it was, I would rather go to prison.

I think a huge part of it is that I genuinely don't prefer one thing over another by all that much, so I'll just take whatever's on sale and make a meal that I'm perfectly happy with. Tonight, Buffalo wings. Why? Well, wings are on sale and they're about as good as anything else...

Yeah that's definitely a factor, and I also get a bit of enjoyment out of it - planned meals are nice and easy to do well, but when I see what's on special I often get inspired, and my meals always turn out better when I'm inspired, because I get to be creative and I am more enthusiastic. To be fair to my ex though, it can be frustrating when you are looking forward to a particular meal all day only to learn you're getting something different.
