I'd say the Bottom is in agreement with what middle management is doing here. My point is that everyone is more-or-less equally swayed, and that it's not a handful of key players pushing their agenda. There's simply no need for a conspiracy - when many push and nobody openly resists and the masses cheer because all groups consume the same media and absorb the same memes and know what the right thing to do is, then of course town halls are going to fly rainbow flags and whatever else, entirely without a shadowy organization needing to manipulate anyone.

Disagreed, unless your definition of physical is very literal.

Never.

I think I'm fine with being left behind if that's the future.

What is a "web app"?

I used to do that up until something over ten years ago, but then the giant HDD I kept it all on broke and I just gave up on the concept.

Nothing in life is permanent, and holding on to anything requires continuous effort and attention. Can't hold on to every piece of data that seemed remotely interesting at some point. The internet is ephemeral, but so is all existence.

Go start a thread? "Sweet Nothings Saturday"?

I suspect that many of our regular posters are simply putting their rationalist phase behind them and are ceasing to actively value decoupling.

The optimal level of bike theft isn't zero, given an environment with bike thieves.

Explain yourself.

So I did.

being that has no sense of existing over time.

Does he explain anywhere how he arrives at this criterion?

Skokie worked because it appeared to be a durable principle. Opposition to McCarthyism worked because it appeared to be based on durable principles. We now know that both were merely who, whom, so neither will ever happen again in the foreseeable future. Principled Libertarianism has no constituency. It's a train people ride to their desired destination, and then get off.

In how far was Skokie a case of "Who, whom"?

I don't know whether I'm maybe being overly charitable, but to me it sounded not like "this is the actual solution" and "that is what conservatives actually think" but decidedly like "this is how this measure is presented" and "this is the look conservatives wish to avoid".

Thanks!

Do you think it would be more aesthetic or less offensive if they had actually picked the first available wheelchair jockey, fattie, squatter-occupied building, graffitied wall, transsexual, antifa mob and a stoner off the street and composed a photographic picture with those?

Sure, it happens. But how often?

I meant not to imply that they were pro-EU but that the larger part are opposed to the rightwing governments and are helped by networking and signal boosting via their allies in other countries.

Yes. I don't see what any amount of theoretical morality will do for the baby in that situation - the buck stops with you in that scenario; if you are the Fritzl type then very unfortunately your morality is all that will have a tangible effect, and the only questions left to ask revolve around whether you assign moral weight to the baby and how you will act on it.

I found the occasional but temporary problems charming. Reassuring. Work was obviously getting done.

Speaking for myself: Russia and russians, present company excepted, creep me the fuck out. Something about the way they talk. It's outright alien. Call it racism if you like, but letting Russia gain more influence in Europe is no more appealing to me than letting China or wokists do it.

This is not something that I would have wanted a war to start over, but now that the war is already on I really can't see a scenario in which Russia gets its way as desirable.

What's more: Ukraine is ours now. It may not have been previously, and it's not worth much to us in practical terms, but sides have been taken. The fact of being on the same side is more strongly binding than any rational justification for war or peace.

Combine all of that with the general anomie of the West and why the hell shouldn't we want for the war to continue? Losing wealth? We still have lots to spare, and the excitement is worth it. Playing into America's hands? Maybe, but the US is NATO and NATO is golden. NATO is what kept Europe from being one big East Germany, or worse, one big Ukraine.

I cannot be arsed to read it as anything other than

Red: Live

Blue: Maybe Die

and anyone who draws up a grand narrative of how it's more than this is a rascal and a villain.

I'm somewhat disappointed by the long span of time in which people in this discussion here just claimed that either number was higher without comparing actual numbers.

Regardless, no matter how you cut it, the civilian casualties in Gaza are extremely high and people would not be hesitating to call it genocide if it were any other country.

Those people work with a very loose definition of genocide.

The problem isn't that there are fewer people. That's the good part.

The problem is that there are fewer Europeans.

Okay. So whom are you murdering today? Or do we already live in the best of all worlds?

If you want this place but without the charity and kindness rule, then what's that supposed to be?

Oopen discussion without charity and kindness rules? You'll get shouted down by the more numerous party.

Bilious contrarians heaping abuse upon absent bien-pensants? 4chan still exists, enjoy.

Supposedly very intelligent contrarians organizing to topple woke orthodoxy? Ask yourself why that is not happening already.
