What is the end goal of DQSH/Fabulous Drag Kids then?

Beretta M92 is nice for similar reasons -- the slimness of a 1911 is hard to overstate though -- feels good man.

The verbatim Trumpy railing against fake news is also weird -- like, isn't the whole meta-point of the show that VoghtCo pretty much owns the media?

Heavy hands make bad art -- it's a shame things have moved in this direction because in a world where there aren't really any good guys (and a number of pretty clear analogies to be drawn with politicians on all parts of the spectrum) there would be a lot of more nuanced things to say than "orange man (with red eyes) very very bad"

It's still pretty fun to watch, so doesn't go in the 'ruined by woke' bin for me -- I'm having serious issues with The Sandman though.

That sounds just fine -- your take looks nice to me, and the 'invisible collapse' seems nice enough. Limiting the width of comments at each level in a reddit-like way (not the substack/wordpress approach of mashing them all up against a hard right margin in deep threads) looks like all that's missing at this point.

Interesting that the LGB part of things doesn't seem to have much to do with the drag aspect -- yes drag is a gay subculture, but in today's context it seems to be mostly about increasing 'T' positivity. "Grooming kids to accept trans people as potential sexual partners" is not the farthest thing from "increasing trans-positivity".

If LGB positivity is part of the goal, why aren't story hours with ordinary gay people? (as such)

I'm not personally hung up on the 'groomer' label, but can see where people are coming from with it; I also don't think 'trans-positivity' is a very positive thing for kids to be learning.

You also assume that "get the vaccine" and "get covid" are mutually exclusive -- which does not seem to be remotely the case post-last-December or so. Not to mention that whichever under-25s are dying of covid are very likely in an extremely well-defined 'at risk group' -- maybe those people should take the vaccine, but "0.003% population aggregate" is not nearly the same as "0.003% of otherwise healthy under-25s".

Is conservatism inherently theistic though? I'm aware that the two are intimately entwined in the modern US, but it doesn't seem to me necessarily (or even in practice) the case. Thatcher, for example, was an arch-conservative, but while she was in fact kind of religious it didn't particularly play a part in her policies AFAICT.

Wow man, you are on fire today.

I sometimes disagree with your stuff, but more usually am not sure what to think as the inscrutability is too much to bear -- this is different.

Not sure what you've been doing to hone your edge, but I look forward to more of it. (whatever that is)

Monkeys are notorious for jacking off (as well as shit-flinging) at the zoo -- if it's common enough to see at a random zoo visit I would think that they do it quite a bit? Auto-fellatio is probably anatomically easier for monkeys, which might explain why humans don't do it so much; also the known problem of being more like sucking dick than getting a blowjob. (which is presumably less of an issue if you're a monkey)

My point is that "increased LGBTQ+ positivity" is in itself a form of grooming -- and potentially at least as harmful to the child in question as straightforward child sexual abuse.

one should then not be surprised when others are similarly cavalier with meanings of words like "Nazi" or "racist", for instance.

It's hardly a surprise at this point; my Prime Minister did as much this past winter. It seems unlikely that anything I might do will stop these people calling me a Nazi, so... I just don't care anymore, I guess?

Is it possible (as a low-priority feature request) to expose the "last viewed timestamp" in a (editable) box on the header?

This would allow one to get around any remaining janky behaviour as to when that updates, and also would have the benefit of allowing users to highlight recent comments (for any given personal definition of 'recent') regardless of viewing/browser history.

Yeah it's definitely on the 'nice to have' -- Tampermonkey is a good suggestion, I may dive in and see if I can get some idea of feasibility that way.

The font changes etc. continue to look really good -- it seems like you've increased the chunk size of comments loaded as well? I'm getting more than previously anyways, which is working well performance-wise AFAICT.

The Hanovers are also descendants of Elizabeth Stuart -- the line from there to the ancient Scottish Kings is (ironically) at least as direct as to the Anglo-Saxons -- it's the (French) Normans that were mostly cut out by the failure of the Tudors to reproduce.

Huh, is that "observed client-side" or some test dealie?

It's not noticeably longer for me (like, I literally didn't notice for a while because it was a lot closer to the reddit experience) and anyways 'one longer pageload' would be better than 'four slightly shorter pageloads'!

Transition is getting pretty smooth (if not better than Reddit in some ways) -- excellent work man!

If only we could abolish gender without abolishing clarity when referring to more than one person at a time...

Do you have some kind of cookie blocking going on? That could be preventing the site from making a persistent session. I haven't seen this problem over a number of browsers that I use regularly for different things -- maybe try logging in in some completely stock/updated browser and see if it sticks?

You could even posit some offshoot of Marxism that applies Marx's conflict-heavy take on the economic drivers of society and applies it to the cultural ones; thus becoming completely orthogonal to the economic left-right compass.

There must be some pithy name for this; it's on the tip of my tongue.

Add the slow-acting methods (excessive drugs/alcohol) and 'accidentally on purpose' ODs and it's getting pretty big.

"Excessive" is of course somewhat open to interpretation -- I'm talking about the levels which will very likely kill you by fifty if you don't cut it out. I'm guessing you didn't OD in your 20s, and also that you don't have much experience with people who did. If you had, you'd know that it's very rarely quite an accident. (Less rare these days because there really is a non-negligible chance of getting a hot shot with more fentanyl in than you'd like, but still pretty unusual)

Don't mistake me for one of the reddit no-fun millenials -- I did tonnes of drugs in my 20s and beyond too; enough to know that it's all fun & games up to a certain point. More people than ever are crossing this line nowadays.

The writers aren't smart, this is just "hur hur see what we did there, this is MAGA country".

He steadily got Arpharazôn's mind under his own control, and in the event corrupted many of the Númenóreans, destroyed the conception of Eru, now represented as a mere figment of the Valar or Lords of the West (a fictitious sanction to which they appealed if anyone questioned their rulings), and substituted a Satanist religion with a large temple, the worship of the dispossessed eldest of the Valar (the rebellious Dark Lord of the First Age). He finally induces Arpharazôn, frightened by the approach of old age, to make the greatest of all armadas, and go up with war against the Blessed Realm itself, and wrest it and its 'immortality' into his own hands.

Does this mean that Sauron will be Steve Bannon?

Some dogs definitely figure this out w.r.t. those wireless electric fence/shock collar thingies; basically in addition to shocking them as they approach the boundary wire, you need to also train them that the shock (+ audible cue) means they need to turn around and go back. Otherwise they just push past the boundary and enjoy their freedom.

Pretty sure mohels have never used their teeth to remove the foreskin -- they use their mouth as a suction device after cutting it off some other way.

Still kind of weird ofc, but not as weird as rabbi's sharpening their incisors for a nice clean cut.

Also, I'd be somewhat surprised if Scott were planning a traditional bris rather than just having it done at the hospital -- but anything is possible I suppose.

Life is suffering -- might as well get used to it early. (I speak from experience, and not circumcision related either -- circumcision is trivial compared to the pain experienced by some infants.)

I've been DIYing this for some years; I don't have the links handy but the CMIP5 model results and the HADCRUT global temperatures are publically available.

There is indeed significant divergence; https://imgur.com/a/krYXyKu.

IIRC RCP4.5 was a better match -- but if you look at the modelling assumptions actual emissions have been more in line with the RCP8.5 assumptions. Which makes me think that we don't actually have a great idea of what we are modelling.

This doesn't prevent climate activists from using the RCP8.5 assumptions as a bailey ("we are on track for +4 degrees C by 2100") while still retreating to the motte ("nonono, you can't just pick the worst-case scenario just because gross carbon emissions keep going up") when presented with graphs like the above.

Craving for a lack of suffering is still a craving -- not to mention impossible to provide. The (physical) suffering only increases as you age. I say again, you might as well become accustomed to it as soon as you can.
