Found on 4chan: Claims that Reverend Insanity doesn't get good until the 200-chapter or even the 400-chapter mark. @self_made_human in shambles?

I was already in shambles, thanks for asking. But no, I earnestly disagree. I think it only takes about 50-100 chapters, at the most, to decide if the story is really for you. I can't insist that anyone persist beyond 200 if they're not already sold. I continue to die on a hill named Golgotha Peak Fiction.

I agree. I liked it from the start. But the fun part starts once you get to the part with the bear, which is pretty early on, I don't think it's more than like 20 chapters if that. And then it gets better from that.

There are certainly lulls in the beginning of the arcs while stuff is being set up, but the pay off is worth it.

Isn’t the bear in like 150, or was there another bear?

Isn't the part where he feeds the girl who catches him to a bear super early on? Like before he leaves his village?

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
