A weekly thread to discuss financial matters - from personal all the way up to global.
Ground Rules
- Remember that we're all just Internet randos. Don't bet your life savings on a hot tip from this thread.
- Keep culture war in the culture war thread. Yes, global events may impact our personal finances, but that does not mean we have to incessantly harp on culture war aspects here. If you are going to discuss it, please stick to the practical impacts of it on an individual level.
- Be kind. Remember that everyone here comes from different circumstances. We all have different resources available and different risk tolerances.
- Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Better is better. Celebrate people when they take a step up and work to move their finances in the right direction. Don't flame out because they haven't followed what you consider the optimal path. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Notes -
In some personal good news, TransUnion has decided that I have a credit card again, with no changes in behavior on my part. The entire saga was baffling. My credit rating is about ~6 points lower than it was when this whole saga started, but at this point I'm not going to fight it.
I'm more global news, 30 year Treasury yields are getting bonkers
I wasn't seriously investing in 2001 outside buying an S&P 500 mutual fund. Does anybody here remember what the Feds's rationale was at the time for suspending 30 year auctions?
6 point fluxations are basically nothing, in my experience, and could correspond with the weather or the horoscope for all I can tell.

Deficits were smaller and Clinton did have a surplus briefly so probably didn’t need to issue much debt in August 2001. That’s probably why they stopped. But obviously the world changed fairly quickly so I am less sure why they waited to restart.
Chase is giving me issues with giving me a new Marriott Bonvoy card. I had it for years. Was like if I cancel it for 2 months and re-apply I get 4 nights free. So canceled it. Saying my credit score is like 736 and didn’t repay something. Only thing I didn’t repay was a rental unit that charged me damages I told them to fuck off on. My other CC says I’m 810. So I’m confused on the decline. Unless somehow it’s related to me getting an AA card for bonuses.
Over chase 5/24?
