So the new models (Astra and Claude 5.5) have dramatically improved 3d reasoning.

Naturally this has big implications for my Minecraft project.

The results I'm getting are a lot better now.

I know with Astra it was an announced feature. People have been using it to make things with Blender.

They both just do functional interiors for buildings now. Previously I had to do a lot of hand holding because they would generate ladders that end at the celling, staircases without holes in the floor, that sort of thing.

The results I get now are impressive. Previously they were interesting but kind of garbage. I really didn't fix anything, so it's the models.

One of the examples is a waterfront city and it decided to put legs going down to the seafloor beneath the platform. Older models would just have a floating platform. The terrain height map function was always there, they just didn't do much with it.

Interesting stuff. How expensive is it to let Astra do 3d modelling, though?

I have no idea. People on X are giving me the impression that it's pretty quick which suggests it doesn't burn too many tokens.

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
