Midterms Megathread

Cause otherwise midterms discussion will be scattered around a bunch of separate Culture War thread posts. And it's nice to have more off-the-cuff rapid reactions in a dedicated megathread.

The first thing I've noticed so far: if the exit polls are correct, Americans are very pessimistic about AI.

The Trump admin and the GOP may have managed to turn a once in a couple generation opportunity to fix major structural problems in the United States into the worst political loss since at least the 1974 election a month after Nixon's resignation over the Watergate Coup, but have you considered the worst scumbags around, Republican political consultants like Susie Wiles, Chris Lacivita, and James Blair, got generational wealth sucking MAGA dry?

Wiles, LaCivita, and Blair just spent >$1,000,000,000, the most expensive midterm in US history, in the worst loss in 50 years. They could have scaled up 10xvotes or some other GOTV operation over the last 2 years with that enormous warchest, but that wouldn't have gotten them generational wealth, and so they ran worthless dumb ads while claiming DJT doing a rally in a few states was going to get the job done and blacklisted and attacked anyone attempting to speak the truth or tell Trump the truth.

Let's hear it for these champions. In a just world, these people and the rest of the Florida Mafia would at least be blacklisted from controlling anything more than county dog catcher (not to mention sued into oblivion and investigated for where the money went and what it was spent on), but we can look forward to them joining the Rubio 2028 campaign because that's how GOP politics works.

It's hard to exaggerate just how much of a disaster if not malicious destruction the GOP leadership/consultant class has caused in this cycle, but here's hoping this will cause accountability instead of what is more likely which is to find some scapegoat to blame everything on. The burned MAGA to the ground and got rich in the process. They betrayed their voters and supporters but at least many of them have gotten fabulously wealthy.

And don't forget the paid-for pollsters manipulating access to lie in internals and to the President. I need to make a pollster review and post-mortem effort post about this, but not right now.

Sorry for the rants, I burned bridges and access and money over the last year+ trying to stop this from happening and as you can see I failed miserably. It's simultaneously cathartic but also this loss will just make everything worse.

I get the frustration, but I don't know how much more good tzar, bad boyars cope I can handle. The only people giving small-dollar donations to Republicans are 78-year-old paypigs. Maybe the consultants sucked Musk and Adelson dry. Of course, no one can say that Miriam didn't get what she paid for.

Trump betrayed the voters himself. First by playing hide-and-seek with the Epstein Files, then more substantively by starting and losing a war with Iran. Don't think for a second that he isn't okay with whatever brazen corruption is occuring in the campaign finance realm. It is at least a small credit to him that he keeps the corruption network close and in-house, rather than treating it as an expandable franchise enterprise as the Democrats are wont to do.

Exactly. I’m amazed there are still Trump supporters here. He’s not that guy. He’s had 10 years and hasn’t delivered anything meaningful. He has to go. He is the problem. Time to give someone else a chance even if you like Trump’s policies.

Trump is the accelerationist. At this point I want Trump out of the way so maybe we can get a competent Republican in there in 28. I want Trump to step down and give JD a shot at turning this shit show around.

Outlaw Islam and Judaism. Tear up the constitution and rewrite it to make America and explicitly white nation. Strip the vast majority of non-white people of their citizenship. Sanction Israel so harshly it doesn't exist anymore (but they'd probably agree with me there). None of the Israelis would be allowed to move to America or Europe. Deport all Muslims from Europe and outlaw Islam there too. Execute Trump for treason for selling out the US to Israeli interests.

Making the Muslims do your dirty work seems unsporting, not to mention quite fraught wrt. the Samson Option. If you want a job done well, do it yourself.

How considerate of you to acknowledge America's original owners. Less sarcastically, why merely "the vast majority", and if you are (presumably) convinced of the white man's superiority, why do you constrain yourself to America?

Bonus nitpick, but if you're willing to implement explicit ethnonationalism, religious exclusion on top seems a bit redundant - unless you also really hate Albanians/only hate Orthodox Jews for some reason.

What is this place?

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
