There’s also neurasthenia

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've been suffering from some sort of mental burnout/exhaustion that I think is due to spending 10+ hours a day in front of screens while chronically ingesting information and over-analysing. Symptoms are eye strain, irritability/social awkwardness, anxiety etc. It's probably common sense that I need to dial things back and spend time relaxing away from technology. It's hard to change your habits though.

Ideally there would be some tolerance for kids in the workplace. Working from home may fix this, but presuming a work environment where the parents need to be in the office, I don't see the issue with having a creche or creche-like area that is near at hand. Perhaps have a 'parents' section within the office space to keep potentially noisy children to an area that causes the least disruption.

Meetings, where serious discussion needs to take place uninterrupted, only take up a portion of the typical office workers activities. Granted some office work requires a high degree of concentration and there should absolutely also be 'quiet spaces' dedicated for this type of work.

None of the above would be perfect though. Having kids in the workplace would reduce net-efficiency of office workers on some level, at the benefit of better work/life/family balance.

Feist has more books set in Midkemia that are worth reading if you haven't already. The series Shadow of a Dark Queen > Shards of a Broken Crown is particularly good.

I was going to write a reply that was roughly this.

I don't think cutting internet browsing off cold turkey is viable. In order to train your mind to have better patterns of behaviour (habits) I think giving yourself a daily quota of browsing (even if its huge, like 6+ hours) to wean yourself off 'autopilot' mindless browsing is a good start. This will give your mind access to mindfulness and an 'inactive' mind.

Boredom is actually useful if you can get over the hump as this is a state in which your mind will naturally start being creative and allow you to think of other activities/goals that you'd like to undertake at the same time as building your boredom tolerance. Then overtime you will spend more time undertaking healthier activities which might obviate the need for the quota.

I think of it as "information" addiction not because I'm actually informed by what I'm looking at (though some content does provide genuinely useful info) but because it gives me the same feeling of satisfaction as learning something, becoming more informed about something.

I'm the same. I classify youtube/forums and even tv/movies as largely the same process of mindlessly ingesting the creations of the minds of others. I rarely pause to contextualise what I'm ingesting to expand my own knowledge in the way that happens when I'm being introspective or reading books.

I eventually came to a sort of epiphany where I believe it is better to come to conclusions and build knowledge from my own experiences, even if this is 're-inventing the wheel' from base principles, than it is to mindlessly accept and agree with the conclusions of the brightest minds of this and past generations. When you think of something yourself, you grok it in a way that is impossible if it was fed to you. This is also how you really grow your own mind and get closer to your full potential.

Amazon must be laughing all the way to the bank with this one, and it's all but assured that such casting decisions will be made in the future because of the sheer amount of free publicity!

Yeah I suspect that this outrage viral marketing will now become standard.

It reminds me of that Erin Moriarty from The Boys "fan misogyny" blowup. I didn't think there was a large scale hatred of her acting at all. The outrage was created from the actions of a small handful of Twitter trolls. It really struck me as a good way to keep the show in the news between seasons.

And the knee-jerk claim of whataboutism to cover the isolated demand for rigor. Also 'just open your own attempt to downgrade CNN, MSNBC etc, but we aren't talking about that here."

I used to see a lot of this 'rules lawyering' back when I played Dungeons & Dragons as a teen, and from reading the discussion page it seems that the exact same personality types are still at it.

Selective hypoagency is one of the greatest tools in the feminist arsenal for reaching their political goals. They can choose the manner and circumstances in which to ascribe agency (or not) depending on how useful it is in any particular situation.

For instance; Women cannot consent when getting involved in a sexual relationship with a male senior manager, but only after the relationship has turned bad; to do so beforehand would be considered infantilising. When a drunk man and women engage in sex no consent can be given due to the alcohol and this is considered rape by the man due to male hyperagency and female hypoagency. Women, it is often argued, cannot be held responsible for committing crimes and deserve lesser sentencing or even no jail time at all, often because they were pressured into the crime by circumstance (or a male hyperagentic 'ringleader'). Prostitution is something forced on women, ala sex trafficking, and thus being a sex client is often treated as a crime, but not the escorting itself.

This is related to having an internal versus external locus of control. The difference has a massive impact on motivation and perseverance.

Loose summary:

In 2010 Penny-Arcade made an irreverent strip mentioning rape that offended some proto-SJW's who thought it was insensitive to 'rape survivors'.

According to one such offendee:

"Whether or not the strip was offensive isn't really relevant at this point: More than the comic itself, what made the most impact was how Penny Arcade responded to the readers -- including rape survivors -- who said it upset them. First, they mocked their critics with a series of posts and a flippant non-apology. In a subsequent "make a strip" demonstration at PAX Prime, Krahulik further needled the issue by drawing a dickwolf, and Penny Arcade even monetized the discomfort over the rape joke by making and selling "Team Dickwolves" shirts and pennants."

Then some notable members of gaming community spoke out against PA and received a lot of insults and alleged death threats. The drama continued with one of the early designers for the PA website publicly cutting ties.

Mike Krahulic apologised and removed dickwolves merch from their store. Then later recanted and said at a later PAX Q&A panel that he regretted backing down and removing the merch. The week after PAX he clarified his comments.. I think it roughly died down after this point.

tldr; Comic used rape as a joke, feminists got upset on behalf of rape survivors. Drama ensued.

A quick google brought this up:

EVALI is a serious medical condition in which a person’s lungs become damaged from substances contained in e-cigarettes and vaping products.

...

Fortunately, there has been a substantial drop in cases since they peaked in August and September of 2020. What’s more, researchers have also identified vitamin E acetate, a chemical added to some THC-containing vaping products, as the main—but possibly not the only—cause of the illness.

Some other identified additives seem to be bad for a variety of reasons. Related conditions include pneumonia, lung collapse, 'popcorn lung'.

Seems to be that vaping by itself seems ok, its just when certain chemicals are used that things turn nasty.

The problem comes in when those groups become established institutions with money and power and people identify with their participation and support of them.

They then go on to become the monster that they were created to fight (ala anti-white, anti-christian, anti-male bigotry).

The suspect is a green party voter and nudist activist, I don't think he fits easily into national party boxes.

Predictably Twitter is all in on labeling this as fascist right wing terrorism.

I don't think he was referring to you as the 'people' above.

I see this as calling the bluff in a De Santis/Martha's Vineyard sense. If they are truly not economic migrants and are in danger of persecution then they should be reasonably happy to be placed in a safe country as compared to a first world one. If they're just there for economic advantage then they can apply through formal immigration channels.

Clearly the massive drop in boat arrivals in Australia after implementation of this policy makes it obvious they weren't just trying to avoid persecution.

Interestingly the Australian government made the claim that deterring refugee boats saved lives due to mysterious hull breaches when approaching the coast or the coast guard.

I'm pretty sure Trump did this kind of thing when he was in office. Keep firing the secretary of a rebellious department until they get the message. Didn't seem to work.

Republican inspired stochastic election tampering.

I got roped into this by a lady friend. Yes, I really feel I need to make excuses for how I wasted two hours of my life on this.

#5 is the worst. The most eligible bachelor in the city, a Marquess with model looks, wealth and a seat in the House of Lords who is fawned over by the most eligible debutantes in an actual scene in this movie. He tolerates being insulted and emasculated by the protagonist before declaring his love for her. At which point she insults him again before telling him she returns his feelings.

#4 was pretty bad too. London police with clubs, swords and pistols unable to contend with the unarmed female trio throughout the film. Why didn't Grail use his weight to just throw her off the catwalk at the end?

I understand this is a Feminist movie, but every time I see women out-brawling men of twice their weight through 'martial arts' I'm reminded of the times I've seen women try starting fights with the wrong sort of man while drunk at the pub.

You can have women beat men in fights with the use of ingenuity, surprise and weaponry, just not hand to hand in a stand up fight. It breaks suspension of disbelief.

Another bugbear was Sherlock's obsequious thanks to the black judo instructor towards the end of the film.

#2 - I kind of expect diverse casting these days, but I really hated them trying to turn Moriarty into a sympathetic figure. She only turned to crime because of how she was treated by the pompous privileged 'real' villains; the white industrialist and Minister of Finance. She had to accidentally have the kind hearted industrialist's son murdered, but she didn't mean to because she didn't know Grail was a blunt instrument even as she used him as a puppet. Convenient that she is incompetent enough to allow her to retain sympathy when necessary despite being a criminal mastermind.

I think I'll skip the sequels.

Certainly could.

Yeah can easily count the ballot boxes from democrat voting areas first and then whoopsie, no time to count ballot boxes from republican areas.

The only thing that feels weird or objectionable about this whole thing is that it's okay to attack non-Jewish white people, but Jewish people are given special protections despite on average being much wealthier and more powerful.

This is my main gripe about this whole thing. As a white gentile I don't even care so much about jewish people disproportionately in positions of power. Its just the special pleading that prevents gentile whites from their own self advocacy in the age of identity politics. Just let all groups undergo in-group nepotism and advocacy or let no groups do so. I don't care which, just not having rules applied fairly is really aggravating.

I think this is the case, because I can never understand why anyone who gets that big and that rich doesn't immediately diversify a minimum of 25% of their holdings into other assets, such as blue chip shares, real estate, commodities, bonds etc to financially protect themselves in case of company collapse. This goes for companies like Tesla, but especially for companies like FTX operating in unstable high risk sectors.

Hence why I said only diversify out ~25%, but I take your meaning. Investors seem to expect all in, ride or die from the builders.
