Occams razor imo: Cats are higher pitched and smaller than almost all dog breeds, and the smaller toy breeds of dog are feminine coded.
Some of this may have to do with experience with prior generations of dogs and cats that were much more rarely neutered if male or spayed if female. Male dogs are notorious for humping furniture, people's legs, attempting to mate with many things that aren't really hump-able. Historical phrases have left me with notions of what a bitch-in-heat is like, with remarkable aggression (especially to other female dogs) but googling they can also be very clingy.
In German, "der Hund" is masculine while "die Katze" is feminine, in French "chien" is masculine while "chat" is (Edit: correction thanks to @pigeonburger ) either masculine but can be used for both ("chatte" for a female cat). In Old English apparently a dog is a "hund" (plural hundas), while "catt" is used for male cats and "catte" is used for female cats.
Someone smarter than me could expound on the terms "bitch"(animal, pejorative(maybe pejoratives, since it seems to mean "very obnoxious" for women exclusively, but can also mean "dishonorable/cowardly" for men) and "pussy"(animal, vulgar term for anatomy, pejorative). Someone probably has, and it's probably buried in some Sociology or Women's/Gender Studies journal.

We have structured society such that a downs person would have trouble knocking over the light and burning down the barn.
You are correct that with many of the most stupid we are comfortable confining them to prevent self harm or massive harm to the uninvolved.
A society of my aunt and Henrys would necessarily devolve into hunter gatherers who would be in a precarious position.
A rival hunter gatherer society of entirely Enron, Google and AXA professionals would be a tribe that my retarded aunt and Henry with comparable numbers of similar nature would probably subjugate easily, eventually integrating violent strong men or wise old women, humiliating the rest in servitude.

About me: The time I publicly humiliated a guy who was mean-spiritedly teasing a girl when we were all teenagers, multiple girls there later flirted with me about it. (she has a stronger and more regional rural southern US accent vs more generic suburban southern US accent for me and the asshole and everyone else there).
About another: She knew the rules of sudoku a few weeks before but hadn't fully internalized the actual methods of the puzzle to progress past easy/medium. I explained the logic carefully as well as some tricks and seeing her realize it and internalize made for a neat connection.

Below, someone mentioned American Episcopalians, but I'd add there are Methodists and American Anglican (split from American Episcopal to be more conservative mostly within the past 20 years). A larger American Anglican church or Methodist or Episcopal might have a more formal morning service and casual evening service that hits the middle you're looking for. If you find a particularly liberal Methodist or Episcopal church, liturgy usage might decline though.

When there are available other ways to provide resources and methods to keep the baby alive, and the court and hospital refuse and actively fight against it, that is exactly the same as killing the baby.
It would be more honest if the court and hospital directly argued in your manner that the parents are torturing the baby in keeping the baby alive. The have chosen instead to argue that more treatment is not in the baby's best interest, and just leave conclusions obvious but nebulous.

Let's wait until tomorrow for him to correct or retract the slop link. Best guess is that half are extremely dismissive of the suggestion of a resemblance, half secretly agree but find it hilarious and just another eccentric quirk of the school.
I think there probably is a way to provide substantially cheaper goods and some services by consolidating retailers, wholesalers and domestic logistics into not-for-profit cooperatives who sell staple goods on an annual subscription model, and who use automation wherever they can. Currently, this entity would have to socially reward (exploit?) many intense thinking and working eccentric people who choose to perform free labor instead of pure compensation.
