A new insight to fill the last gap in my last graph theory paper. It was incredibly bitchy to prove the nonexistence of a counterexample in generality, but there suddenly appeared a bijection with a large but ultimately finite family of strings that could be ruled out case by case.
I’ve had the feeling before (research, homework, Project Euler). The secret sauce is 20+ hours of fruitless struggle beforehand :)

If you go by awards, start with NK Jemisin; I can’t speak for the content, but the style is an unhappy marriage of a spellchecked Eye of Argon and concatenated Bulwer-Lytton contest entries.
That said, there is plenty of good fiction out there. It’s just not pulling awards anymore.

Maximally offensive version: StarCraft-style base trade. They capture Mecca and/or Medina.
Slightly less contentious version: they plop down in a no-man’s land somewhere between the Donbas and the Dnieper to act as a buffer between two countries that both hate them less than they do each other.
Maximally lazy version: they capture a chunk of Cyprus. It’s close by, and if Turkey can do it, why not them?

More information needed. If the threats are significant and development is high (Taiwan, for example) I’d choose 1, whereas a safer, poorer country like Sri Lanka is probably better off with 3.

The best old evidence we have is that she passed the bar on the second try, with the ameliorating factor of the California bar being somewhat nastier than the norm. So she’s probably at least as intelligent as Hillary, who also took two attempts (with preparation in a better law school, for whatever that is worth, and not in Cali).
How difficult is the bar, anyhow?
Suppose that Pop A has mean 100, sigma 15 and Pop B has mean 85, sigma 15.
The ratio shown above is not the same for the two populations. If the cutoff is 85 and the high mark is 100 instead, this is obvious without computing Z-scores.
