Right now Iranian elite have internet while the plebs no. It is the same as with the US imposed blockade. For the US interests is best if no one has internet in Iran than only some. Aka showing that it is on US terms.

Why hasn't USA and Israel cut the cables that connect Iran to the rest of the internet. I don't see any downsides for them and it is a nice way to counter the state imposed blackout.

What do you think the chances are that we are currently in a large (AI related or not AI related) bubble that will pop? It seems like the money printing of the past few years has massive upward pressure on the stock market so I don't know how to unpick the two.
Betting against AI will make you broke, betting for AI will make you broke. Staying away is the smartest thing so far. Take Deepseek - they did magic with inference and the model is next to free now. I use it as daily drivers for heavy coding sessions and it is essentially free - I can barely burn trough 1$ daily. Even if they increase the price - I guess I will have the same USD consumption after 31st of may because flash is just a gem. With china compute ramping up and open models being so close behind the closed ones - the margins that Anthropic and OpenAI expect are just not there.
On the other hand - the technology is transformative. I don't think that there is a single programmer left that doesn't use AI heavily - even the holdouts grudgingly started to admit that latest models are better than juniors. I expect tokens to end up like electricity and oil - ubiquitous, affordable, metered by consumption but absolutely commodified with a mix of locally and remotely running models.

That is totally not true. The recovery in Balkans was at best 2006-2007. And then the global financial crisis hit. The standard of living took almost 20 years to recover. And arguably for people that are retired it never did.

Is it? Both need Lebensraum, both view their neighbors as potential targets for conquest, both draw their legitimacy from historic grievances, nationalists, conservative, preside over some of the best engineering minds in the world. Both policies could lead to their countries potential downfall. Somewhat cavalier attitude towards the civilian suffering and deaths inflicted on the populations they subjugate.
If you have a general liking to nationalist strongman, they are not that different aside from their answers on the jewish question.

So big week in models - in the matter of hours we got GPT-5.5, Deepseek V4 and Opus 4.7. What are your impressions so far - mine - GPT-5.5 is the least underwhelming of the 3. Deepseek is really capable at insane prices, Opus 4.7 at least for me it totally undistinguishable from 4.6
Also the limits are absurdly tight on the 20$ level.

Both cases are better excuse for riots and arson than Floyd. During the Floyd riots everyone was out with impunity.
It is surprising how much can you achieved with good prompt and harnesses nowadays with how little tokens. The problem is that the majority of people using AI are too stupid to be lazy in the proper ways. I think that a tornado is coming. Probably later than anticipated, but the white collars brains are afraid (insert starship troopers movie meme here) - especially the ones who deep down always knew that their intellectual labor is neither extremely intellectual nor much useful. I am already seeing proposals for excise tax on tokens. And I think that the big hyperscalers grossly underestimate how much optimizations are left in the pipeline.
The compute cost on tools is low, agents are becoming quite adept at tool calling - so agents creating their own tools and tool calls is totally expected ... in a way this is what programmers have always done.
There is lots of performance left to be squeezed out of each token. And relatively small hyper focused models also doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves.
