Small-Scale Question Sunday for June 7, 2026

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

Is this satire or do I simply not understand startup culture? I'm officially at the point where I can't tell anymore.

The name of the website wasn’t a clue?

Have you ever gone though an airport that sees through your clothing using a Rapiscan imager? You'd think that, at some point, someone would have spoken up to ask: "Are we sure everybody is going to read that first A as a short A?"

"Are we sure everybody is going to read that first A as a short A?"

"Don't worry. We've programmed them not to enjoy it."

People buy fursuits. Tell me with a straight face there is no market for your very own fursona robot (for whatever purpose at all you might wish to have one, say riding on its back to the convention).

‘Satyress’

Yeah, I get that it's supposed to be a pun on "satire" but the robot also looks, very vaguely, like a satyr and the female of that would, presumably, be satyress (even though I don't think in mythology there are female satyrs). If you're all hot about being otherkin, your very own robot satyr(ess) might be just the thing you want to spend more money than is sane on.

It probably is an entire spoof, but no worse (or better) than Juicero. If somebody can figure out animal/mythological type, not just humanoid type, robots there could well be a market for them. There's probably a market for everything.

Satyr (1 2)

In a world where juicero got $120M in funding? No.

I don't get it. Satyress is one step removed from "satire". Juicero is...?

Satyr, not satire. The words are widely and incorrectly believed to be related, but in fact "satyr" comes from the Greek word for a mythological creature that would fit just fine into modern furry porn* and "satire" comes from the Latin word for a fruit salad.

* Human body, horse ears and tail, unrealistically huge dick

When I first saw juicero, I thought it was satire. It turned out that it was, in fact, not satire.
