Wellness Wednesday for September 16, 2026

The Wednesday Wellness threads are meant to encourage users to ask for and provide advice and motivation to improve their lives. It isn't intended as a 'containment thread' and any content which could go here could instead be posted in its own thread. You could post:

  • Requests for advice and / or encouragement. On basically any topic and for any scale of problem.

  • Updates to let us know how you are doing. This provides valuable feedback on past advice / encouragement and will hopefully make people feel a little more motivated to follow through. If you want to be reminded to post your update, see the post titled 'update reminders', below.

  • Advice. This can be in response to a request for advice or just something that you think could be generally useful for many people here.

  • Encouragement. Probably best directed at specific users, but if you feel like just encouraging people in general I don't think anyone is going to object. I don't think I really need to say this, but just to be clear; encouragement should have a generally positive tone and not shame people (if people feel that shame might be an effective tool for motivating people, please discuss this so we can form a group consensus on how to use it rather than just trying it).

Definitely eating way less and drinking less alcohol. Barely any desire for food. I have yet to feel hungry a single time. I've dropped a few pounds, but its hard to know if that's real.

@CertainlyWorse you said you were curious how it's gone. I'll maybe update again at 5 weeks when I go back to the doctor.

I suppose we're both in the same boat. My appetite is drastically diminished, though I'm on stimulants which provide additional suppression.

Down 2ish kilos since.

In fact, I'm now concerned I'm not eating enough, between the workload and sheer exhaustion, I've been skipping a lot of meals. I can do with losing a few more kilos, but at that point I'll either cut down the dosing or force myself to eat more regularly. Interesting problem to have.

Keep up your muscle mass, do some resistance training, perchance you've not yet quit the gym? Pushups are something to consider if you have. A regimen every morning.

I've managed to do a lot of things, but a sufficient amount of exercise eludes me. The gym isn't happening, but the pushups have fewer excuses. I'll try, thanks.

Have you talked before about why some sort of sport rather than structured exercise doesn't work for you? I imagine the socialization is also good for us, even if it's not quite as structured in terms of full range of motion and progressive overload. Something dynamic. Maybe a racket sport, volleyball, ice hockey, etc?

I don't think I've talked about it. I've never been a particularly sports-oriented person. It just never appealed to me, beyond occasionally kicking a football around during recess.

That has been the story of my entire life so far, and I don't think it's likely to change anytime soon.
