Cause otherwise midterms discussion will be scattered around a bunch of separate Culture War thread posts. And it's nice to have more off-the-cuff rapid reactions in a dedicated megathread.
The first thing I've noticed so far: if the exit polls are correct, Americans are very pessimistic about AI.

Gina Hinojosa 88% to win Texas governor.
I was mentally prepared for Talarico to win, but this is going to potentially impact my day-to-day life. This is now a cope thread.
Do I need to buy a gun? Should I think about moving to Florida?
Texas is a huge market for business. What happens to stocks tomorrow?
Might want to put your pronouns in your email signature, but can't predict what else will change.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Texas will continue to be extremely business friendly and no gun control is on the horizon.
I wouldn't be so sure. The electorate moved left a lot. Clearly that means something.

All I know is that Talarico is very good. Scott Aaronson endorsed him which is enough for me.
Okay, you got me. I lol'd.

What's actually going on with Abbott? I don't follow Texas politics at all so I have no idea, I thought Abbott had it on lock even though I expected Dems to probably take both the House and the Senate. Unlike the House/Senate map, in which prediction markets have had Dems doing well for a while now, the Hinojosa rise seems to just date back to... today.
Abbott outran Paxton by six points. Unfortunately, Paxton lost by 20.

I think it's the gas prices. Most people here drive pickup trucks.
Texas has had a Republican governor ever since George W. Bush defeated Ann Richards in 1994. People were ready to give the backup quarterback a few snaps so to speak.

It’s already a bloodbath with Nasdaq futures down 1.5 percent.
1.5% is a bloodbath now?
Dude. It is 1.80 now. Apocalyptic.
Wasn't Friday a worse drop?
2.3% now. Black Wednesday.
Okay, I’m joking but clearly this is bad for your 401k.
October was bad for my 401k. But I'm not retiring any time soon regardless of how the markets do. It's a blip, it'll recover.
Sure, I'd have been happier if it happened before my paycheck auto-deposit rather than after, but hey, you win some, you lose some. I'm sure I won't be lucky enough that the markets will stay down until January when my company's stupid "once a year at the end of the year rather than throughout the year" retirement contribution gets deposited.
