Academic standards vanished with the Covid response - at least in the US - and have not recovered since. If I have to be treated by an otherwise unknown doctor, a top criterion would be completion of medical training by 2019. I suspect that this outweighs the racial preferences given, though the effect is probably cumulative.

The Union has gulags out of sight in Angland; one of the main characters had run such a gulag just prior to the novels, and sends people there during.

Lesbos, obviously.

A parody poetry collection, where an anagram of the poet’s name is chosen to examine in the poet’s style. Enjoyable even if you’re not well-read; I’m not.

Highlights: Shakespeare, Chaucer, Poe, and Larkin.

Kordemsky’s Moscow Puzzles are a nice supplementary resource. Maybe Art of Problem Solving prealgebra.

Today I learned. Thanks for the correction.

Bach - pretty much everything, but the catalog #1052 keyboard concerto stands above the rest. Glenn Gould is a wonderful choice here.

Mozart - Sonata #8, symphonies #25 and 40. Probably anything else he composed in minor key is brilliant too.

Beethoven’s violin and third piano concertos. Appassionata. Symphonies 5 and 7.

Schubert’s Death and the Maiden.

Chopin’s first piano concerto.

Grieg’s piano concerto.

Dvorak’s cello concerto.

Sibelius’s violin concerto. You want Oistrakh’s recording.

Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto.

Shostakovich’s 5th symphony.

Sviridov’s Snowstorm suite.

“esprit de corpse” is an excellent typo. Almost up there with “locust of control.”

Shape the patty into a calf (bonus points if it contains veal) and color it golden with turmeric, then worship it.

I’m on your side and it wasn’t immediately obvious without actually attempting the search as written. You should not assume bad faith here.

The tenth percentile of the general population is living off some combination of government aid and crime. They’re certainly not cashiers; even restricting to college students, the tenth percentile will not have the work ethic or the numeracy for this.

Seems more like “I never thought leopards would eat my face, says a face-eating leopard.”

This would be the literal manifestation of “If my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle.” Human descendants who develop such technology would have changed enough in the intermediate steps to no longer be the same species.

The best old evidence we have is that she passed the bar on the second try, with the ameliorating factor of the California bar being somewhat nastier than the norm. So she’s probably at least as intelligent as Hillary, who also took two attempts (with preparation in a better law school, for whatever that is worth, and not in Cali).

How difficult is the bar, anyhow?

That must have been the inspiration for Dark Souls basilisks.

How did you get viscera in your nose in the first place?

You provide lots of accurate media representation of communists in power, with emphasis on the early Soviet Union. Or turn it up to 11 as was done with the Nazis, at the cost of integrity and a few contrarians.

May I remind you that the VP and the most recent Supreme Court justice were explicitly chosen on the basis of race?

Probably the absence of low-flow design downstream of environmental regulations.

The first episode. The portrayal of the first battle is ridiculous and at odds with the rest of the show, iirc.

War and Peace. All those French phrases aggravate me. I already have to lean on a dictionary for Russian literature, and I have too much ego to pick up a translated copy.

A lack of major bugs would be unfaithful to the source material.

According to Wiki, he lost his legs while serving in the US military in Afghanistan in 2010, and then volunteered in Israel (presumably not in a combat capacity) several years later. It’s not a good look, but he at least has dual loyalty!

They (counting unified/Western only) also averaged 6-7 years on the job. I can’t think of one who was replaced and lived afterwards.

Algebraic geometry and most of number theory on top. Graph theory and most of combinatorics toward the bottom (I am here). The basis is largely the minimum difficulty of producing independent, original work.

Getting spoonfed or rubber-stamped in a high status area, like Piper Harron, does not confer high status.
